Seinfeld's Standup in a long form comedy
4 May 2024
This film is a funny realization of Seinfeld's standup routines from the 80s,90s and beyond. It's loosely based on the real history of Kelloggs and Post and their battle to be top of the breakfast food market.

Seinfeld has been obsessed with cereal for decades and has worked it and Pop Tarts into his standup routine for years and into his TV show. If you appreciate his comedy you will get a kick out of this movie. There are lots of great comic actors and many cameos that lend to this over the top, silly at times but very entertaining film.

I see lots of negative reviews on here but I just think people are going into this with false expectations. If you get Seinfeld's humor you'll get this movie and you'll laugh.

Sadly not for true fans of the movies
4 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was hopeful I would be getting an interesting story showing the origins of the the Mogwai, but sadly this is just a dumbed down cartoon made for young kids. It doesn't honor the source material and makes up things like how Gizmo got his name (see the original 1984 film for the truth).

The style of the animation is nothing special, trying to mimic the trends of the last few years by using flat shading on cgi, made popular by the 2018 Spiderman film, but alot less successful.

Instead of playing off of the source material which was very much a dark comedy with an air of Chinese mysticism, you instead have a childish storyline with some magic thrown in just because. The main Gizmo Mogwai doesn't sound right and they don't even sing the famous melody taught to Billy by Giz correctly.

If you grew up in the 80s and loved the first two movies and were expecting something special here, just pass. This is just another example of a studio trying to leverage existing IP to milk more money out of it regardless of whether it would appeal to the ordinal audience or stay true to it.

Bait and switch
23 April 2023
Don't judge the movie based on watching the trailer. It was cleverly put together and I was fooled enough into thinking it would be an exciting new take on a classic sci-fi story. The actual movie is amateurish, slow with bad acting, writing and effects. It feels more like a network TV movie and not worth the rental price.

I wish I could say more about it, but I was bored out of my mind. I couldn't make it through all the way in my first watching. I came back to it later to see if it got better, but it just didn't. It's pure garbage and I would like my 6.99 rental back. I recommend you save your money.

Seriously bad writing
22 February 2023
Let me first start out by saying I loved the first Antman movie. I think it was sharp and funny with a great story. It's on my top 5 list of all Marvel films.

This movie (Quantum-whatever) is in stark contrast. The only good thing about it is Johnathon Majors performance.

Seriously, how do you entrust a major franchise with a writer (Loveless) whose mostly known for Kimmel bits, The Oscar's (??!) and Ricky and Morty (which has been in a downward spiral for years). And now you are going to entrust him with writing the next Avengers movie? What are you thinking Kevin Feige?

This whole movie is just one big setup for future films and is completely incoherent.

Star Wars for grown ups
26 November 2022
It may have started off slowly, but week after week it built a complex story of war, struggle, triumph, pain, love and defeat.

It's hard to put into words what this show has done, but I feel like there is hope again that we can continue to experience the universe first created by George Lucas.

The cast is excellent, the writing is spectacular, the sets and visuals are immerive, the score...powerful, and the directing is some of the best I've seen either on TV or film.

I can't wait to see the second season. I'm onboard for this ride to the end. We are the Star Wars generation and we have grown up. This series is made for us.

A bit of a mess
18 October 2022
There are some very fine performances by Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannevale, but the writing is a mess, drawing very loosely on the real life story. It starts off reasonably well but by the forth episode I knew things were going off the rails. There are so many unresolved threads and very unbelievable claims that it's hard to know if they were trying to write a serious thriller or some type of mock dark comedy. They meander back and forth between tension and comically bad character acting, especially by Jennifer Coolidge. The last episode is just beyond believability.

In the end it was a colassal waste of time. I recommend you pass on this one.

Wow! Lots of negatively. Not from me.
22 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I can't belive how much negativity there is in these reviews. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I loved this first episode. The acting was spectacular, the comedy was sharp and the vfx were mostly excellent (yeah a few uncanny valleys, but I give it a pass because of the acting makes up for it). First off, people seem to be getting so offended...lighten up! This is a comedy. Bruce/Hulk isn't being disrespected. This is simply showing some family rivalry like hundreds of shows have done in the past. No one is saying she is better, she might think she is better, but it's done in jest and clearly her arrogance gets her into trouble. So she can control her anger, what's wrong with that? Why does she have to behave the same as Bruce? The whole point of the show is to showcase how they are different and how the powers are a reflection of their personality. There is also a basis in the comics for this.

The writing and wit of this show reminds me a lot of the first Antman film which I also love. Not every Marvel film needs to be all about a huge battle against some unbeatable villian.

I suggest everyone take a step back, give it a chance and keep an open mind.

Such a shame
4 April 2022
There are some very redeeming qualities about this movie. There are some very good visuals including the cinematography and vfx. The acting is pretty decent for the most part and the score is very cinematic.

The problem with this film is the writing. It's just horrible. They should have sent this back for a few more rewrites. Nothing makes sense and people do things that have no motivation. The underlying theme is so basic and the situations are so poorly fabricated that the whole story just unravels by the end.

A monumental failire
2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Setting aside how slow the pacing is, this series was a disappointment and monumental failure in writing. I forced myself to finish it just to see if it would redeem itself. There are some very good performances, directing and cinematography but the script is a complete mess. They never bother to set up the rules in this world and then proceed to break every possible real world rule. Things just happen without any setup and people react in ways that make no sense. I don't want to go into spoilers, but suffice to say there is an "invasion" where some how the invaders bring with them something that helps to defeat them. What the heck?! Honestly, I think the invaders are just a plot device for this 4 quadrant character study. I will not be watching another season if they make one.

This is what happens when Netflix gives anyone money to make a movie
13 June 2021
This has to be one of the worst written movies I have ever seen. Thrown together by a couple of amateurs. The two brothers who wrote this should never be allowed to write a film script again. When Netflix throws money at anyone willing to make a movie no matter how little experience they have, you end up with this movie. I wish I could get my money back from my subscription. The only redeeming quality this movie has are the performances of Gina Rodriguez and Shamier Anderson. Jennifer Jason Lee is wasted. Other than some decent acting, there are a few cool camera tricks, but without a story to stand on, this movie is a waist of time.

Near perfect Star Wars
21 November 2020
This episode gave me hope again that Star Wars is alive. I felt like I was watching an extension of the original trilogy. The writing was on point with just the right amount of humor. The directing by Carl Weathers was insanely great. The action and dog fights made me feel like it was the 1980s again which is what I think Star Wars fans expect when you are extending the universe. Great job and kudos to Jon Favreau!

What the what!!?
10 December 2019
This show was on such a good path. The first 7 or 8 episodes were engaging and clever and the performances (at least the few leads) were pretty impressive. I thought they were taking the story in an interesting direction and asked some interesting questions about how a world with humans and vampires could exist. The pseudo science kinda made sense and there was real mystery...and then...in the last 2 episodes they basically jumped the shark. What the hell! All questions they were asking, tossed on the ground like some garbage in favor of some ridiculous, campy post-apocalyptic dribble that has been done a hundred times before. Please, spare me if you plan to continue this story line. I feel like I just wasted 10 hours of my life. Did you fire the whole writing staff in the last few episodes and have the producers finish writing the scripts? Sheesh!

Excellent if you have the right expectations
11 November 2019
If you are going into this film expecting it to be a straight up sequel to the Kubrick film with the same horror tone, you'll be disappointed, however if you have an open mind, this movie is very well directed and acted and the story is very compelling. This is more of a fantasy thriller than a horror film and I really like that about this film. It also does quite a bit of homage to the 1980 film, but takes it into a new and interesting direction with a deep underlying theme direct from Steven King.
