Chasing Liberty (2004)
Should Have Done Better
While this was not DEEP material by any standards, no romantic comedy is! This is probably the first romantic comedy to come out since "How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days" that I've really really enjoyed. And probably the first comedy of any kind that has made me actually laugh out loud in the theater. Mandy Moore is much more than a pretty face and voice, she CAN act. And Matthew Goode was is great with dry humor, and a decent actor. The scenery was gorgeous, the story humorous, the actors pulled if off well...this movie should have done so much better.
Mona Lisa Smile (2003)
2 1/2 hours of feminism, but great actors!
I was disapointed in Mona Lisa Smile. For a happily married newlywed, Julia Roberts sure picked an ANTI-marriage role to play! Don't get me wrong, I'm not sorry I went to watch the movie, it had some of my favorite actresses in it (both of the Julia's, Kirsten Dunst, etc. and I did enjoy all of they're performances) but I certainly won't buy it when it comes out...I don't even know if I'll rent it. Julia Stiles' character was the only one I truly LIKED out of the whole movie, and although the other's were supposed to seem to be "standing up for themselves" by being so feministic, including the freespirited Julia Roberts character, I felt like Julia Stiles' character was the only one that REALLY ended up making a statement...by NOT being like the other's. Also, not all men are, or WERE pigs, but from watching this movie you would never know it! A dose of feminism is good, but this was a huge overdose. And I by no means am a you shouldn't do anything but sit at home, cooking, cleaning, having babies kind of girl.
