A Man Called Otto (2022)
Just see the original ("A Man Called Ove") instead
"A Man Called Ove" was brilliant. To the point that someone decided to do an English-speaking version.
Tom Hanks is great, of course, but why not just see the Swedish original, with subtitles? So much better!
The portrayal pf the grumpy old man is very original and convincing in Rolf Lassgård's case, while Tom Hanks is clearly only trying to reproduce (in English) what Rolf did.
Substituting the Persian woman with a Latin American one is so pathetic and cliche, that it's not worth discussing.
Overall the spirit of the original novel is transmitted acceptably in Otto, but once again - why not just see the original Swedish version?
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Fell asleep 3 times
A complete waste of time.
* Weak script;
* Poor performances (even from the lead character).
* Some nice flying - yes.
But the rest is not worth it.
I guess people have fond memories of the original Top Gun movie, which was original, and much better indeed. This version is made just for the box-office.
Racial and gender diversity is added, probably with the intention to reach wider demographic. Adds little to the plot.
I did fall asleep 3 times while watching, and found myself asking the question 'Why am I even watching this?'
As someone funnier than me summed it up: "Two-hour propaganda ad for defense contractors, militaristic, jingoism, and bombing foreigners."
"The weapons porn"
Not that I expected much of Tom Cruise, but I saw reviews saying the remake was better than the original, so I fell for that.
No, it's not better. It's much worse.
Save yourself some disappointment, and see a real good movie.
Trace Amounts (2014)

Producers are trying to convey a message that mostly falls on deaf ears.
