Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Full of beautiful Asian symbols, and beautiful storytelling
A lot of people will not fully understand the complexities of this movie, and it's a damn shame.
This movie should have been a series, it never stood a chance, there are far two many characters from the book that needed to make an appearance, but they didn't have the time to explore their storylines.
Astrid's storyline in particular is so sad and beautiful, and she deserved more screen time.
My favourite scene is the Mah Jong scene, where Rachel purposefully loses by giving Nick's mother the winning tile. The meaning behind that action is vocalised when she says "remember that it was because of me that Nick would marry a more suitable person". I mean incredible symbolism.
This movie was huge when it came out, a full asian cast? I couldn't have loved it more for representation. I felt so validated through Rachel, because she is me and I am her. An ABC, a banana, as Peik Lin puts it.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
It's so bad, I wanna give it a 0, but I can't so I give it a 1
I was and am the biggest Teen Wolf fan, it was my favourite show growing up.
But I did NOT grieve Allison Argent years ago to have her come back in the movie. I don't care how much I loved her, having her come back made me feel so dumb.
How they continue to DISRESPECT my girl Kira by using her WHOLE storyline with the nogitsune is beyond me. They bring her whole plot line but don't bring her in.
The whole appeal of Teen Wolf was without a doubt Stiles' comedic humour and timing, without him in the show it felt far too boring.
Ugh and Malia and Parrish was laughable, Lydia's reason for ending things with Stiles was ridiculous.
This movie took itself far too seriously for no reason, major ick
I love Teen Wolf but this movie should not have been made. I am too mad to think of the positive parts of this movie, there were some, but I can't remember anymore.
Boo, Bitch (2022)
lol
This show was brilliant.
It knows it's dumb and portraying every cliché possible.
I loved it because you can just tell that Lana had fun filming it.
The outfits were amazing, and honestly I was surprised by the twist of Ericka not being dead. It's a very fast and light hearted show, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to see more of Lana in other roles
It was evidently cringe at times but it's a self aware show so I didn't mind.
Snowflake Mountain (2022)
Doesn't deserve all the hate??
This show certainly isn't a 10/10 but it doesn't deserve all the 1 star reviews.
This generation (my generation) is very lax, we take things for granted and expect to be handed things without any effort. So being pushed out of your comfort zone in the wilderness seems like the ultimate challenge!
I know a lot of people who would pay for an experience like this, so I think it's a great idea! There is nothing better than reconnecting with nature to grow up a little.
More positives:
- diverse casting from weight, race, and sexuality
- focus on friendship and teamwork rather than individual self-entitlement (very refreshing)
- steers away from the over sexualisation of most reality tv shows
- Matt and Joel had really great constructive criticism for each person
I don't have many negative things to say to be honest. I thought it was a fun show to watch! Definitely worth the binge!
The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022)
Everything I wanted it to be
7.5 stars
This show was everything I wanted it to be, I read the books just before the show and was very happy with all the cute nods to the books.
The changes made were great and really brought the story into the 2020s.
To me Laurel is a stand out, and that red dress?! In love. I wanted more Laurel & Conrad heart to hearts.
I loved the addition of the debutante theme, but didn't like the girl on girl rivalry.
You can see feel how young Belly is at 16, she's still making mistakes and doesn't understand that her actions have consequences, which is totally understandable. I hope they work on her character development if we get a season 2.
I thought that Jere having feelings all these years wasn't really well portrayed at the beginning? (Just me?) but because I'd read the books, I knew what to expect.
This show isn't supposed to be revolutionary. I loved the cheesy moments bar a few. And im team Conrad and Belly. I had smiles at the end.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
My guilty pleasure show but...
I loved season 1 in all of its cheesiness and charm, but season 2 was a bit of a let down. I still love it and hope there's a season 3 but I hope the writers change a few things.
The things I thought were unnecessary this season:
- Cal's anger issues ? They didn't exist in S1, introducing them now was really dumb
- Re-introducing Ryan into Helen's life, there were too many useless love triangles
- Jackson's character was so cringe, what 17 year old boy behaves that way ?
- Too much Christianity talk, season 1 levels was tolerable but s2 was just too much, every second sentence was about religion
- The accents are still over the top
- Why is every conversation some « philosophical » line, yea one or two per episode is nice but every sentence ???
- The character development kind of fell short this season for the adult characters
I hope they get a chance to make season 3 so they can redeem themselves
Things I did love:
- Seeing different characters from s1 interacting with people they hadn't interacted with in s1
- Mary Vaughn being the villain makes me happy
- Annie getting a girl friend out of Lily (but can she not flirt with Ty)
- Kyle and Nellie
- Cece'S character was insanely good this season
- Maddie is a great actress, we love an unproblematic queen
- Ty realising he loves Annie.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
It's really not bad
I went into this with extremely LOW expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The last episode was the best, and actually makes me want to see more.
