Grown Ups (2010)
Typical Sandler
Once you've seen one Sandler movie, you've seen them all. Almost the entire cast were awful; the type who specialise in rubbish, immature comedy. I was surprised to see Salma Hayek and Maria Bello in such a huge pile of c**p though.
The plot is silly and predictable, the comedy falls flat and the prat falls and physical jokes are utterly ridiculous.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Anna Chlumsky was a better actor when she was a kid
This show is booorrrring. I've just found out there are nine episodes! Nine?! I'm struggling with episode two.
Julia Garner is ok, but it's true, the voice is annoying. Chlumsky is disappointing though. Every close up of her face looks like she's smelling a particularly rancid fart.
This is too long, boring and had I known it was Shonda Rimes, I would never have attempted to watch it.
Family Guy: Trump Guy (2019)
Shame the snowflakes can't take a joke
If this episode had been about Obama, I'm sure everyone would've laughed. Because it was about Trump, it was very divisive. I don't know why Republicans are watching Family Guy; MacFarlane has always been a Democrat and has made no secret of it. I hope to see more episodes like this in the future, just for the reactions of the Republicans!
I loved it, the jokes were hilarious and the assault stuff with Meg was clever and handled well for a comedy show. Long live Family Guy!
Fractured (2019)
Anderson does it again!
Session 9 is one of my favourite horror films of all time, because Brad Anderson leads his viewers to expect it to be about one thing, whilst building tension and surprising his audience with something else.
He's done the same again with Fractured and it works just as effectively. Just as I was beginning to feel disappointed at a lackluster, generic ending, I was pleasantly surprised once again.
The acting was very good from the whole cast. It's a shame Lily Rabe didn't have much to do, she's a fantastic actor.
I loved the way the tension built up pretty much from the very beginning, I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film.
I don't know why some of the reviews are so poor, if you enjoy Brad Anderson or Session Nine, please check this film out.
All Round to Mrs. Brown's (2017)
Wouldn't even give one star
I honestly don't know how this tripe even gets on TV. One of the worst things I've ever sat through. Mrs Brown's Boys is bad enough. Irish comedy is better than this!
Only for One Night (2016)
"Remind me how I got so lucky"
This is such a cringy film. The plot had promise although it's basically just "Fatal Attraction" and "Single White Female". The acting was absolutely terrible from everyone. The only actor who put any effort in was the one playing the kid.
After he slept with his sister-in-law once, he carried on seeing her and being nice to her, it was so ridiculous. He certainly didn't seem guilty at first.
The pregnancy was a joke, she seemed to up her wine intake once she found out she was pregnant.
The funniest part for me was the ending. His wife just forgives him after he banged her sister, got her pregnant and then killed her. One of the worst films I have ever seen.
Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)
What the...!?
What did I just watch?! What kind of parents have sexual affairs with the same man and don't notice that he's too into one of their daughters?!
Except, they did notice and even shared their concerns with each other, and then they did nothing for five days after their daughter was kidnapped. For FIVE days they kept thinking she would probably be back!
The second time they did nothing for 2 weeks because they were scared of what people would think! Jan went to hell and back because her parents were more concerned about keeping their indiscretions quiet than they were about protecting their little girl. What the hell? They should have had all of their children taken off them. They're clearly unfit parents, her mum is clearly bragging about her trysts with 'B' even all these years later.
After the first attempt why did they let Birchtold see Jan again, no one is that naive! I actually wonder if they were in on it.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Disappointing
The first five episodes are fantastic, creepy tense, well written. The acting is superb by the adults and the children.
However it gets worse towards the end. The last episode seems a jumbled mess, the big reveal with the red room is actually quite boring, I was waiting for something scary to happen and it never did.
Whoever passed out or threw up because of the scares has obviously never seen real horror done right. This was very mild and after all the reports that it was terrifying, it's no wonder it's a huge let down.
It also doesn't help that none of the main characters are actually very likeable. They're all narcissistic, arrogant and bitter.
The Hummingbird Project (2018)
Fantastic and Unique
I saw The Hummingbird Project last night at BFI. It's captivating and interesting, funny and thought provoking.
The acting is incredible, Eisenberg does a fantastic job with some pretty emotional stuff. Salma Hayek is great, it's cool to see a woman with so much power for a change.
The real standout to me though is Alexander Skarsgård. His role is spectacular. It's unlike anything he's done before, he brought a perfect amount of comedy to the role.
