Christmas on Mistletoe Farm (2022)
I wanted to love what seemed like a sort of Christmas Nanny McPhee, at least from the trailer.
Then the family goes to the farm. I watched (and liked) it and even laughed out loud a couple of times. That is, until the children (who are charming) meet the farm hand, Beano. The character was so, so over the top (think a British Jim Carrey on coke or meth). His frenetic energy and ZERO pauses/breaks/downtime were overwhelming. It was like he was trying to channel Robin Williams, but the bits he did felt very, very rehearsed, with none of the improvisational charm Williams was so famous for. We only made it about 15 minutes after his introduction. I just couldn't take it any more. It had potential, which makes it sad. Even that character could have been tolerable if he hadn't been running at 1000% every moment he was on screen. Maybe David Frost or a different British comic could have done the role justice...
Black Mirror: White Christmas (2014)
Jon hamms voice gives me an ear boner
I could listen to him talk for a very long time! The concept of the cookie is horrifying.
Black Mirror: Hang the DJ (2017)
My intro to Black Mirror
And I loved it. There is a LOT of sex, but none of it is gratuitous, it's all for a purpose. You definitely don't expect the ending in the best way possible.
Black Mirror: Striking Vipers (2019)
Glad this wasn't the first episode I watched.
I might have missed all the truly good ones. This one left me feeling so skeevy, I felt like I needed a shower. I don't care that it was 2 men playing a video game as a hetero couple. What bothered me is the infidelity, which was right up there with calling a phone sex line. Anything that interferes with your marital sex life (that isn't medical) is cheating .
Black Mirror: White Bear (2013)
Ending left me with questions...
1. Do we know she actually did what she's accused of? Because in no video shots (that she took) did a man approach the child or did the child look scared. What if this is more of a Running Man scenario?
2. Pompous question: can there be justice without suffering? I'd say no- since every morning her mind is erased, she never truly suffering, as she goes through the scenario over and over anew. That little girl never got justice-her killer died. Now they're punishing the alleged accessory by means of making a game of her life.
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Not all the comedy is in the trailer
I was very disappointed by Talladega Nights as every funny line from the entire movie was in the trailer, so I was a little hesitant to watch this film based on that. But, the premise was intriguing so I gave it a shot, and I'm glad I did. There are maybe 4-5 really laugh-out-loud moments, but these vampires really do show some heart and personality. If you liked Tucker and Dale Fight Evil (or you you like the trailer and the kiwi humor/accent), check it out. It gave the vampires individual personalities, one of whom was quite sweet-hearted.
And if you don't like it, it was only 86 minutes (which you may or may not remember, depending on if you watch to the end of the credits ;-)))
