Annika (2021)
Love Nichola Walker
I am an unashamed superfan of Nichola Walker. I absolutely love this series, I love that she is able to show her comedic side. The breaking of the fourth wall is brilliant. I cannot wait for season two.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Paying Anna Delvy is just too much!
I'm not going to get into how bad this show is, from the terrible German accent to the "absolutely true except what isn't" crap. Because paying this fraud for her story is ridiculous, why would Netflix give Anna $300k for this story when it was already reported? And the portrayal of her victims is awful. This story is too sympathetic to a sociopath for my taste.
Julia (2022)
Sarah Lancashire is a force of nature!
I've been a fan of Sarah Lancashire for years, but this role was made for her! She is transformed in Julia Child. This version of Julia's story, featuring all the relationships around her at the time of the launch of her show, is devine. I am loving every episode and cannot wait to see the next!
The Lost Daughter (2021)
Waited for something to happen...
I liked this film. The acting was very good, I've come to expect nothing less from Olivia Colman. I do think one more scene would have helped wrap it up. I kept thinking something bad was going to happen, it was dark and ominous but it ended up quite flat. My rating of 7 is all due to the acting.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Same girls, a few more greys
Full disclosure, after the first two episodes I hated this new series. Cringeworthy! But they found their groove and the remaining episodes felt like the old series. Looking forward to the next season.
Mum (2016)
This is a gem!
The characters are very well written, and well played. Pauline, Kelly and Jason are so annoying because they are so well portrayed. Lesley Manville is brilliant. The theme song is a serious ear worm. I will miss this show.
McDonald & Dodds (2020)
More episodes please!
I started watching just for the scenery in Bath, honestly. But I was immediately drawn in to the dynamic of these two actors. This is a well written, well acted series. I cannot wait for more episodes.
Miss Scarlet & the Duke (2020)
Great costumes and acting
I love a good period piece and the costumes and sets do not disappoint, however the screen writing needs help. Very modern language and references that would not have been known in that time, for example how long someone will live with cancer, knowing that vital arteries were not hit immediately after a shooting. The writers should have done more research. However the actors are great and far more talented than the scripts allow them to show.
Pieces of a Woman (2020)
Wonderful film. True depiction of loss
I loved this film. The acting was superb. The cinematography was brilliant. I've not seen a film that so truly depicts the feeling of loss after a stillbirth/miscarriage/ loss of a child. Vanessa Kirby was brilliant in this role. Bravo to her and Ellen Burstyn!
Beecham House (2019)
Loved Beecham House
I loved this show, but I tend to enjoy English period stories. Hoping for a season two!!
The Lie (2018)
Love the actors not the story
I enjoy all three of the lead actors, and found their performances to be great, despite the lacking plot. The last 15 minutes are a good twist that only left me frustrated.
This Way Up (2019)
Aisling Bea is a gem
I loved this show. Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan truly seemed like sisters. A great show in every way. Can't wait for another season!
Kiri (2018)
Sarah Lancashire is amazing
Honestly I chose this film because Sarah Lancashire was the lead. She is so brilliant I could honestly watch her ready a dictionary! I was however disappointed with the ending. Not only because it felt unresolved but also because the implication is that the privileged white family kept their secret while the less privileged family of color were left to blame. Sad, especially in today's climate. We should do better.
Hope Gap (2019)
Great actors
At first I thought the film was rather slow moving, but it matched the melancholy state of the marriage and the after effects. Bill Nighy, Annette Bening and Josh O'Connor were excellent as always.
The Split (2018)
Fingers crossed for future seasons
I loved this show. I'm a huge fan of Nicola Walker and she played this brilliantly. The entire cast is fabulous and the storylines and addictive. More please!
