Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Season 1, Episode 10
7/10
Positively surprised.

Warning: Spoilers
I never had high hopes for New Blood, because the horrible ending of the original Dexter was still etched in my memory 8 years later.

I have to admit I was still thirsty for more, so a part of me wanted to believe in this.

However, the whole New Blood felt really sloppy, poorly written.

After a show that's been okay/good at best, and accidentally seeing the IMDb score for the finale I expected another disappointment. I was positively surprised though.

The logical ending to Dexter has always been that he either gets caught or killed, after his friends/family/colleagues find out the truth about him.

We got neither in season 8.

I understand those being annoyed with the fact that Dexter killed an innocent man, but at the same time I can also see him being in a more difficult situation than ever before. This time he is facing heavy accusation (which he most likely wont talk himself out of) and has a son who he wishes to protect above all else. I can buy that he acted out of fear, even though it didn't quite look like it.

Dexter died, which in my opinion has always been the "right" ending.

Harrison killed his father, who was the main reason the boy became damaged in the first place.

Does this mean the boy will automatically be happy and live a great life?

No, but he got closure, and I'm sure his dark passenger died with Dexter.
