Oldboy (2013)
Don't listen to the Spike Lee haters with Crappy Reviews, This movie was worth the Watch!!!
First, I must admit that I usually read 3/4 s of movie reviews on the IMDb site prior to watching a new movie on ITunes and/or new DVD. I dropped the ball on the Old Boy remake. I saw the original and must say it was really intense and GRUESOME. I was in awe of the acting and amazed how easy it was to follow, even subtitled. OK, but I am here to review the Spike Lee Joint, as he always proclaims. So here we go. Sub-Rating is in parenthesis.
Acting (10/10) Josh Bronlin and Elizabeth Olsen were fantastic and extremely believable. Kudos to Spike and the Casting Director for finding the right characters and also for bringing in Samuel L. Jackson as the Landlord for what I like to call the Hell Hotel....I was very impressed to re-live "Old Boy" with popular characters we probably know and enjoy watching.
Cinematography (8/10) Spike Lee has a knack of putting his own touch on films with unusual camera angles and unique character positioning. The fight scene choreography was well done and believe from beginning to end. The other truly unique thing was the placement of the sign that reads "Guns Don't Kill People....People Kill People.
Storyline (910) The plot was extremely believable and of course it being a remake followed pretty well with original.
Finally, if you did not know that this was not the first movie Samuel L. Jackson did which dealt with the subject of incest. He portrayed a father who committed incest with his daughter, unknowingly. The movie title was "The Samaritan". It's not one of his best movies. The acting was good but the plot strayed a lot and it was quite boring.
There you go. Though it is a remake which usually brings in a lot of biased reviews as shown in the past. I recommend you give it a chance. It will surprise you.
À l'intérieur (2007)
The Best Arterial Spray I've seen in some time.
I was quite floored by the entire feel of this movie. The violence alone caused me to watch this movie three straight times on a boring Saturday College Football day and once in French, without English subtitles.
First, kudos for the cinematography throughout it was just right to set the mood. It alone caused me to focus on everything in the background, and not just the actors. This allowed me to catch thing I missed at first.
Secondly, the acting is superb and believable.. I judge movies a lot of the time by how things are said by the actors/actresses within each scene. Even the scenes of extreme brutality and the screams, yell, grunts, crying, and sighs of effort, exhaustion, and relief validate the movie's plot and intent, allowing the audience to experience the same while watching.
Finally, what I and horror/gore lovers around the freaking world live for is the uniqueness of the kill scenes from both the villain or victim. For me, it was obvious from my title the best scene was obviously the bathroom scene which the mother is inadvertently impaled and has a classic arterial spray. Yes!!! The worst scene is the first one showing the car accident. It would seem from their position in the vehicle, the dad and unborn child would have the best chance for survival and mother would be killed from slamming into the driver's side window. Just guessing though...Anyways
I give this movie a 9 out of 10 for acting, cinematography, and extreme brutality. Plus I can see opening US Today and reading about this actually happening exactly like the storyline. Awesome movie, definitely one of the horror genre's elite.
Modus Anomali (2012)
Smart little horror flick
The movie starts you out confused but interested. It gives you a chance to put all of the pieces together as you watch the main character attempts to solve the mystery and save his siblings. Finally you think you have the plot down and you are ready to label the film "slasher flick involving dummies not looking for help, but fighting the battle themselves in the woods". Same lost in the woods genre movies" The director takes you on the twist of the epic proportion. This movie is a classic and a must see for true horror/suspense fans, but you have to be patient,. All will come to light prior the credits rolling and you will rewind it at leas once, if you are like me. ENJOY!!!
