The House That Jack Built (2018)
I see dead people
Finally a well thought out movie that doesn't rely on jump scares to be scary and entertaining, but rather on psychology. Lars von Trier is a genius and the movie is very clever and well written. Mark Dillon was a perfect fit for this role as well, as he came off as a very convincing psychopath. You really have to pay attention while watching it though, otherwise it's easy to get lost.
Just see it, believe me!
Fractured (2019)
Please, don't take my organs!
Great movie! I love psychological thrillers and this was a good one. It was suspenseful all the way through and that ending, which came as a shock, made it so much better. This was a happy surprise I didn't expect. Highly recommend everyone to watch it.
Tall Girl (2019)
Stig and Ingvar?!
As a swede, this movie was so annoying. I couldn't even properly focus on the storyline because I was so annoyed about the casting of Luke Eisner, who btw is American. If you must have a character that is from Sweden, make sure he is SWEDISH! That accent, I don't even know what to say... never in my entire life have I heard someone who sounds like that. At least his accent didn't come out sounding all german like most Americans do while trying to pull off a swedish accent. If you want to get it right, try impersonating Pewdiepie. He is a good example of what a true swedish person sound like. In the beginning, when Stig said a line in swedish while talking to Kimmy, he had the thickest american accent possible. Once again, cast a REAL swedish person for a swedish character. Didn't they think anyone was gonna notice all this. Also, the names Stig and Ingvar are what men in their 70's are usually called, not teenage guys. I feel the people who made this movie just used google translate for the language and googled "most popular names in Sweden year 1945". They also seem to think that every swede is tall, has blue eyes and blonde hair, which I can make sure is not the case. If a brunette or readhead is born, we don't send him/her off to a desert island. You can find them here as well. Rant over.
Now for the movie itself. It was below average (hence the four star rating) and very cliché, altough not the worst I've ever seen. The characters were boring and lacked depth. Jodi was tall and liked musicals, Fareeda was the tough girl, Dunkleman was the lovesick guy, Stig liked musicals, Kimmy was the mean girl, Harper was obsessed with beauty and the mother just seemed like a horrible person that didn't even love her kids. Each charachter had one single personality trait, and that's how far it went. But enough with the negativity. Jodi actually had some charachter development. She went from this really insecure girl to confident and self loving. It's not always easy peasy lemon squeezy to be different, believe you me, but when you learn to accept youself for what you are you can start focusing on what's really important in life like family, friends and love. That's what this movie wanted to teach it viewers. It's just that it has been done a thousand times before in very similar ways. The movie probably would have been better if they tried to get the message across in a more unique, new way.
Got tired from writing all this, goodnight!
Don't Breathe (2016)
Just really bad and made no sense!
One of the worst movies ever. Didn't make any sense at all. There's no way an old, blind man could pull this off all by himself. I just got annoyed watching it and I recommend that you don't waste your time on it. The only reason I gave it two stars was because there was a dog in it, and I love dogs. That's all I have to say.
Sextuplets (2019)
Pretty funny if you like silly humor like me!
Had a few laughs here and there throughout the movie. Not Marlon's best work in my opinion, but definitely not his worst. You can tell he put much effort into it and really enjoyed making it. The storyline is coherent and it's impressive how he manages to portray seven different charachters and keep their mannerisms apart. Although some of the characters aren't always believable and the acting is sometimes a little over the top, it still worked for me and I had a fun experience watching the film.
Gi-eok-ui bam (2017)
Brilliant!
The title says it all! It's not often you come across a movie THIS GOOD! It was like a roller coaster from start to finish. I didn't know what to believe, who to trust or sympathise for. It contained so many plot twists, my mind is totally blown. Not just the ending was unexpected, but everything that happened throughout the entire movie.
This is absolutely one of the best movies I've ever seen. Went straight up to a shared number one on my top-10-favorite-movies-list. I really hope to see more movies like this in the future!
With this said, I simply had to give it it's well deserved 10 stars. Too bad there aren't enough movies like this one.
