Black Dahlia (1998)
For the love of god DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME
Being a video game enthusiast i've often pondered what were the best and worst endings to a video game I've ever seen. Deciding on the best would take some time, but as far as the worst goes i don't have to rack my brain for very long before I remember that I once played thru a little known PC game called Black Dahlia. I use the word 'played' loosely because about after the 3rd puzzle the game becomes so damn difficult I had to seek internet walkthroughs from that point on to the horrific end of the game. On a difficulty scale i would rate this game a Migraine. Seriously I doubt anyone including the people that have posted their thoughts here before me have went through this game without seeking some type of help online. Having Hopper and Garr make cameos was just a marketing ploy they lend little if anything to the game. For it's time i guess the graphics were pretty good and the setting is just perfect for a great FMV video game but these people really blew it. In fact I think the company must have gone belly up in the final days of production and the office janitor went ahead and decided how the game would end. I used to love FMV games and i still do but in the year 2005 they have pretty much been phased out. I'm still always on the look out for FMV games i may have missed over the years and on the off chance you're on the lookout too stay the hell away from this one!
The Usual Suspects (1995)
The greatest movie ever made
My hope is that by some chance when this review is posted on the main page that someone may be checking to see whether the Usual Suspects is worth watching. Well if you really enjoy crime movies with suspense, fantastic dialogue, ensemble casts, brilliant directing, and a marvelous story, then what are you waiting for? Do yourself a favor and rent the movie and don't read one more line of this paragraph, or anything else pertaining to the movie. Don't read the box, don't check out the cast, don't ask someone else if they've seen it. The less you know about this movie the more you will enjoy it.
And for those of us who have already seen it what can I say? This is probably the closest I have ever seen to a perfect movie. While I think parts of the story could have been better served for the viewer, the direction was flawless, absolutely flawless! Lastly i'd like to mention Pete Postlethwaite. Although it was short lived his appearance in the movie was so brilliant I think it was Oscar worthy. He really made the movie for me. "Myths... Legends..."
Showtime (2002)
Probably the worst movie I have ever seen.
For all intents and purposes, Showtime was the worst movie I have ever seen.
Why? Because having Deniro in the cast adds immediate credibility and makes you want to watch the movie. I had also made the mistake of watching 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop recently before seeing Showtime and for some strange reason thought Eddie Murphy was still funny. Well he's not. In fact it almost seems like he has been neutered. As I watched this movie I was in amazement that Deniro decided this was a good enough script to lend his name too. No chemistry between him and Murphy whatsoever. Horrible writing, horrible jokes, a movie that you THINK is supposed to be good can't get much worse than this. Not too long after sitting through the wretch that was Showtime I happened to watch National Security starring Martin Lawrence. The movie had its funny parts but wasn't that great. But still it was 20 times better than Showtime. Please if your a Deniro fan DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!
