Did someone fire the entire Marvel production staff and replace them with a 7th-grade feminist-movie club?
This movie was shockingly bad. It's a grotesquely disjointed addition to the previous (awesome) Avenger movies, and a preachy bore. The dialogue is bland, the acting is mostly bad, the plot is ho-hum. You feel little of the personality, human weaknesses and self-deprecating / biting humor of the other Avenger characters that make the movies so FUN.
You do feel like the movie really really really wants you to know that women can fly airplanes. Like, ok, we get it. OK WE GET IT
Captain Marvel is invincible, which is actually a problem. She's hit with lasers from Kree fighter aircraft with no effect. She flies through a Kree cruiser from end to end, destroying it. She can go faster than the speed of light. She can kick start an engine and send it to another part of the galaxy with one fireball. M'kay. So... where's the tension? You're not awed or scared by the bad guys, and you don't give crap about the good guys.
It's so over the top, it actually made me feel immature for watching it. You know, like, I should be doing something productive instead of watching this childish crap.
Brie Larson is just not a good actress, and physically, she's not a good superhero. Her running gait is nonathletic, her punches look wrong, her movements are slow. And her 'determined' look is utterly.... tiresome.
You walk out of the movie feeling like - damn, this junk is gonna be in the final Avengers movie? Damn.
