American Indian Graffiti: This Thing Life (2003)
Well Written, Well Acted, and True to Life
I was fortunate enough to see a test screening of this movie in North Dakota. I was very impressed with what I saw. Too often in the past, Indians have been wrongly portrayed in cinema. We are either seen as a drunk who begs for money, or as this noble mystic or shaman who can solve all the world's answers with one ceremony.
It is refreshing to see a filmmaker who portrays indians as they should be, as PEOPLE. People with dreams and ideas and struggles and hopes and feelings. Just like everyone else. We are human. We want to live the American dream, we worry about relationships, we have to deal with tragedies, we have issues, like everyone else
This film was able to bring out the human element in the Indian community, something that as been sorely missing in previous cinematic attempts. A fine film. Anyone who loves good cinema, should check this movie out.
