Mongolian Death Worm (2010)
Not bad for a Sci Fi movie of the week.
This is timeless tale of a treasure hunter meeting a doctor and then worms attack bringing sickness to all of the villages in the area. You really can't get enough of a love story like this. I'm a sucker for the Syfy movies of the week. I've seen a ton of them and I keep coming back. This one was billed as being based on a real "Destination Truth" investigation, which made it even a more appealing. Also can I just say how do you not watch a movie called "Mongolian Death Worm". In reality it should be called Mongolian Death Worms because there is way more than one worm and they attack the crap out of anything they come across. This movie lived up to the hype. It was a good time and while it the cgi was by no means "Avatar" and the story wasn't "Chinatown" it was sufficient and entertaining. This get's a 8 of 10 based on the campy made for TV movie meter.
Wild Zero (1999)
the Japanese Rock N' Roll Zombie movie
**** minor spoilers, just basic premise*****
All I can say is that this movie was simply amazing. When I put this on I didn't even know what it was about other than it was a zombie movie and generally that is enough for me. But this movie combined my two favorite things zombies and rock and roll. And it's not crap rock the soundtrack includes on of my favorite Japanese trash rock bands Teengenerate who play about 4 songs throughout the opening sequence. There is also a song by Bikini Kill in the soundtrack, and of course the self proclaimed coolest band on earth Guitar Wolf(who are also the stars of this movie). The resemblance to Rock and Roll Highschool(with the Ramones) is obvious. The story is pretty basic aliens come and turn the world to zombies and it's up to guitar wolf and friends to stop them. Fun action sequences and I know may believe that Guitar Wolf is the coolest band in the world.
"courage and rock n' roll, love has no boundaries, nationalities, or gender"
Undead (2003)
good homage and fun splatter bad writing, acting, and editing
***spoilers ahead***** I understand that this movie is not supposed to be taken seriously and it did have quite a few good laughs but I have to agree with the Australian poster most of the acting in this movie is terrible. The two police officers were unbelievable in every way. While the sheriff (or whatever his title was) is supposed to be annoying and unsure of himself but he just seems confused about how he is supposed to be acting not about what he would do in this situation. Second the women police officer is supposed clueless and to faithful to her boss but it is ridiculous when it is obvious that she is being told to do something stupid she continues to do it with a completely blank stare on her face, and i don't just blame it on the actress but also the writing for her character. The one actor that I really did like is Marion(Mungo Mackaye), while he doesn't deserve and Oscar for his performance he plays his part well and is believable in his role. I am teiter back and forth on the lead Rene(Felicity Mason) but i think a lot of that can be blamed on poor writing and editing.
***big spoilers including comments on ending to follow****
As far as the idea of the movie it's great and it is partially pulled off. they seemed to really like the model who's torso was cut off with the spine sticking out, they used it twice. Marion did some really fun things in the movie reminding me of old westerns and the spurs into the wall was a classic moment. I really wanted them to just go and fight the zombies and have that be the movie. The aliens were alright and i did think it was a nice twist that they were there to help instead of there to conquer the world. Overall Interesting idea, the writing, editing and acting were not great but for the most part the suffering if in short spurts. the ending scene was fun, and the film had some good laughs.
Camp Slaughter (2004)
Not what I was hoping for
I had hope that this movie would be a good fall back to the 80's genre horror flicks and that is what it attempted to do, all be it very poorly. This movie was very bad, and bad in a very very bad way not a way in which you want to watch it and laugh at it bad. The biggest problem of this movie is that it is a Swedish film with Swedish actors speaking English. I feel that if this movie was in Swedish the actors probably would have been more comfortable in their roles. Instead it felt like they were trying to remember their lines instead of getting into their parts. I would like to see this movie again in Swedish and preferably with a new soundtrack, the idea is there but the actors are having to work way to hard to remember their lines.
