The Witcher (2019– )
2/10
From a book and game perspective
30 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I read several of the original books series. I enjoyed all of them. The writer transported the reader into the world of Polish, or to a wider degree, Eastern Slavic mythical tales of horror and stories to scare children at night The first book in the series was a scattering of different stories and tales not exactly in sequential order, from what I recall, but enjoyed none the less. I immersed myself in the first game and was happy to find it followed the book mostly on an accurate account with the stores and culture from the written tales, so much so I played it three time over. The second game was also a pleasure for me as it expanded from the first with controls and options. The series is not something I can support. It seems the writers felt as though a modern interpretation through the lenses of today's world was a better tale. It was not. I wish writers would have stuck with the story, ethnicity of Slavs and told what could have been an entertaining series. There are many fairy tales from ethnic cultures all over our world that can and should be told from their ethnic viewpoint without having to shoe-horn in characters who meet a diversity roster like a large corporation just to prove they can have met the diversity and inclusion check box. I would watch any show that could stick to this mentality. That is why I tend to now watch Korean, Russian and Indian films. They don't care about the check boxes, they care about story writing, great acting and keeping the audience entertained without shoving Western left leaning ideologies in our face or sneaking them in the story as if we would not know they are a part of it.

Dumb, Incredibly stupid plans
10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers.

Stupid plan. Go back and get people who are fat, out of shape and cannot shoot worth a crap, much less fight. Scared of everything but facing the worst enemy man has ever encountered.

Why not Just jump back and locate the spaceship or prepare everyone for a "Spartan's 300 hardcore soldier" for 20 years coming? Maybe those folks jumping in the future would not be dead.

I expected half of these people to jump holding a Big Mac and fries along with a Glock 9mm.

The serum is needed to kill the whitespikes, but it only kills males. Need a serum to kill queens, but when they find the ship they just blow the thing up and kill the aliens.

Useless. Waste. Of. Time.

Meh...
7 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sloppy, plot points or points of interest created with no follow up. Was it supposed to be funny? What was with the pregnant zombie plot that went no place fast? If you want to watch a flick with "Army of" in the title, go for Army of Darkness instead. This was a let down.

Bone Tomahawk (2015)
8/10
I thought it was interesting but it is a slow burn.
30 December 2015
I found the acting to be good, Kurt Russell did well as usual. The movie is a slow burn for the majority, with the third act stepping up a little with the violence.

It did take itself as a serious type of Western, which at first I thought would not work, but ended up being pulled off well. The more time spent into the story, the more serious and horrific situation we actually find the characters are in.

Probably not for everyone, but I found it refreshing, without all the fast paced, CGI induced coma styles that most movies try to impress us with these days. I think older folks of Westerns will appreciate this more than the young crowd.

No spoilers involved. Not very good.
30 December 2015
I suppose only hardcore Tarantino fans will like this movie. I found it to be Reservoir Dogs decided to jump in a time machine and move out to the old West. The only thing that gave it enough stars for me was Kurt Russell and Walton Goggins performance.

Channing Tatum? Not very good acting. Tim Roth? Ehh... Jennifer Jason Leigh, ehhh.

And as usual, Mr. Jackson has to walk around and spout mf this, that, but it just does not fit in this movie.

Do not waste your time with this.

If I want a good Western I will flip through and watch The Searchers, A Fistfull of Dollars or The Wild Bunch.

Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023)

Nothing close to "The Walking Dead" except zombies
1 October 2015
The characters are boring, careless, dumb, selfish, and I have no connections to any of them like I feel for the original show.

Example: Best plan anyone had so far, let's grab some water and go to the desert. Really? Wake up. The West and East coast populated areas would be devastated while the sparse mid-West mountains-plains and the rural South would be the survivors.

I want these people to be eaten. Only thing I feel would happen that could be true is the army rounding up people like this and having a secret agenda. The government in the real world is like this and they are the threat, not the undead.

You may not like it, but you will need the survivalists and rednecks with skill-sets to get through this if it were real. Thank God I am a redneck.

World War Z (2013)

A total waste of time and money
17 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
May contain a few spoilers, read this review with caution.

As others have pointed out, this does not follow the book, I did have a problem with that; but what if it was standing on its own merit as a screenplay:

The characters are not well developed, instead relying on action scene one after another. The people constantly make mistakes and don't learn from them. Oops, I stepped on glass, oops; I knocked over a soda can. The dog is barking at the door, let me press the button and open it, what could be inside. Let's all sing for joy in Jerusalem over loud speakers, obviously turned up to "11" on the volume meter.

And the same scene over and over:

1) What is going on? 2) Zombies are chasing me! 3) Zombies are over running the area! 4) Let's leave and go somewhere else where there are lot's of zombies! Yeah! 5) Rinse and repeat.

By the end of the movie, I was hoping the people would get their dues and just die like everyone else. Max B. was smart to avoid this like the zombie plague.
