Serendipity (2001)
Was I the only one that didn't want Jonathan and Sara to end up together?
Ok a guy named Jonathan named Sara on Christmas Eve fighting for the same pair of gloves at Macy's. They both feel a connection and end up having a drink at Serendipity 3, and the connection gets stronger, at least for Jonathan. Sara on the other hand is waiting for a cosmic sign to prove that they exchange numbers and have an official date. At this point Jonathan should have seen this as a red flag but no he caught up in the lunacy or romance or whatever it was so they end wrote their name on objects and hoped the other person would find them and reach out. 5 years later, Jonathan is engaged to Halley, who's perfect for him, but he can't get crazy Sara out of his mind so he goes on a last ditch effort before getting married to find her.
Again I hoped he'd never find Sara and just marry the amazing Hallie.
Annoyingly cute love story set in New York, it's quirky and has some good characters but Sara was ridiculous.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
I don't get the harsh reviews.......
After reading the other reviews I have to start by saying that Kerry Washington was brilliant. Yes she gave the Olivia Pope look and yes little trivial things were turned into severe racial undertones but she played the part that she was given very well. Her portrayal was slightly harsher and angrier than the book but she still played Mia incredibly. This was a well written show with amazing actors and thought provoking themes that at times seemed to want to turn many of its characters into blatant stereotypes but at other times told a sad but beautiful story. Not quite as good as the book but definitely a must watch. Reese Witherspoon was amazing as was Lexi Underwood.
Eight Below (2006)
Hard to watch
I rented this movie to watch with my 5 year old. I figured that its from Disney, it must be kid appropriate. Was I ever wrong! We enjoyed the first 45 minutes of the movie, but as soon as they left those poor dogs chained and out in the cold. It really bothered me. They should have taken the dogs with them, they knew the weather was bad, they should have foreseen that they may not be able to return easily.
After old Jack is the only one stuck on the chains and you can tell how sad and bad off he is, I started crying, my daughter started crying. I ended up fast forwarding until the end just to show my daughter that some of the dogs ended up OK. We could not handle this movie! Then I read the true story and it's even worse - 2 out of 15 survive.
Makes me mad thinking how awful we treat animals, and this movie just illustrated it further. After those dogs saved the Dr., he didn't even bother to fight and go back for them.
The acting was good, and so were the first 45 minutes of the movie, so thats what made me rate it 5 stars
