Faltu (2006)
Very god and simple Bengali cinema!!!
This is one of my favorite Bengali film.I am a Bengali and like watching Bengali films but very few films actually make sense.I am pleased to be a part of the Bengali community and the village on which this story is based. The story is on celebrated Bengali author Syed Mustafa Siraj's novel – Ranirghater Brittanto. This is Chaudhuri's Planman Motion Pictures' second foray into Bengali movies, after the success of their earlier Bengali film Sanjhbatir Roopkathara won accolades all over the world. Ranirghat is a not-so-developed village people mainly by refugees from Bangladesh. The lives of the villagers take a new turn when a census official questions Faltu's parentage. While it is a well-known fact that Faltu is the son of Suri Khepi (a mad woman played to perfection by Indrani Haldar), no one knows who his father is. Neither does Faltu know, nor did he care to all this while. He was happy with what he was doing – driving a bus and ferrying villagers from one bank of the river to the other.A great movie with an equally good concept.Faltu is a lifetime movie and one of the best in Bengali cinema.
Mithya (2008)
movie with a difference!!!
Mithya is planman motion pictures awesome film. The movie is very different and has storyline that is rare in Bollywood.I did not like it initially but it was Ranvir Shorey's brilliant performance that made the film entertaining. Its only when you go on and on you realize how interesting the film is.It has action, drama, suspense and comedy.Over all too all the stars have performed really well and made this movie more interesting.Rajat Kapoor as the director is superb. The film has dialogues from hamlet, which was intended for drawing parallel with a man who finally just becomes the pawn in the chess board. Mithya, is a wonderful and special because at certain instances the common man can relate to the characters of the film. The film is special because of Ranvir's brilliance in a double role.If you like movies with stories with difference, then this film is a must.I am sure you will enjoy it!
Dosar (2006)
A brilliant film in black and white.
Dosar is one of my favourite Bengali film. All credits to the director for the way he has made the film.It is one of the many hits from Planman Motion pictures and simply amazing.I would say I have seen many movies but none impressed me to the extent this film has. The plot is brilliant and the way it has been executed is superb.Added to all this the brilliant performance by the lead actors Prosenjit and Konkona Sen,also my favourite stars. It is in the second half that both really were amazing when Prosenjit, who cheated on his wife Konkona had to regain her trust. The best thing and something that made it more superb is that the film was not in color but in black and white. To release a black and white film in 2006 with such a plot and that too so brilliantly could have been done only by Rituparno Ghosh.
Do Dooni Chaar (2010)
A complete family movie.
Do dooni chaar is a complete family movie. Thanks to Habib Faisal for making this wonderful film on family.I was waiting for such a movie for a very long time and then came out Do dooni chaar. Great performances by Rishiji and Neetu ji. Their on-screen chemistry is simply amazing and no one could have completed the film the way they did with their splendid performance. Do dooni chaar which is a movie about a middle class family shows the true Indian middle class family.Habib Faisal has shown the problems, sufferings and the life of a middle class family perfectly. It is a complete family entertainment and for me one of the best films of 2010.
The Last Lear (2007)
Amitabh Bachchan at his best!
It is said that greatness is never a thrust on you. You are either born with it or you are not. Amitabh Bachchan today stands at a place where anything and everything that he does surprises us.In the last lear,Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Harish Mishra aka Harry, a theatre actor hailing from the Shakespearean school of thought. Moody like the English weather, he expects everyone to be well-versed with A Midsummer Night's Dream and recognise it's the Tempest that he lovingly quotes.Like an actor in play, he's always a different person at different hours of the day. At times, he transforms into a gallant knight in a grand battle. On other occasions, you can hardly tell him apart from an eight-year old petulant child languishing to have his way. Occasionally, he is eerily quiet only to unexpectedly bark at a mindless passerby peeing on his walls. His penchant for drama reflects in the unkempt white tresses dominating his wrinkled countenance as well his choice of clothing, ranging from kimono robes to Egyptian galabeyas. He is a legend of his own making. Amitabh Bachchan essays this startling personality with awe-inspiring ardor. The Last Lear is only about Harry, how he is persuaded to act in a film and his concealed regrets. And Amitabh Bachchan as Harry has done a brilliant job.It is a movie to be watched out for simply because of his brilliance.
Rok Sako To Rok Lo (2004)
A classic film for teenagers
Arindam Chaudhari's directorial debut Rok Sako To Rok Lo is a campus classic with a story based on the rivalry between two groups of students from different social and economic backgrounds. The film deals with the dispute between two neighbouring high schools -Bharti School and Valley High School. Both schools are completely contrast in nature. The former very peaceful and the latter equally violent. There are many new faces in the film.Yash Pandit and Manjari Fadnis are among the newcomers.Dev (Yash Pandit), Suhana (Manjari Fadnis), and their friends belong to Bharti School, and are often disturbed by their rivals who come from Valley High. Sunny Deol is simply superb as Kabir 'phantom'.Kabir motivates the young guns before moving on with his life.An inspired Dev readies for the ultimate test that will prove his capabilities and dismantle the egos of high flying Ranveer and his gang. The movie is filled with many interesting turns and twists. It surely leaves some mark and has a sensible ending
I Am 24 (2010)
An outstanding movie.......
I m 24 starring Rajat Kapoor & Ranveer Shorey in the lead is an outright romantic comedy. It is about a middle aged man, played by Rajat kapoor who falls for a girl who is much younger than him.It is about how in his desire to get the girl's love in return he goes on to tell number of lies. This is where the plot begins and takes an interesting turn. Ranveer Shorey is good as always. This just might be one of his better performance.Neha Dhupia,Manjari and Rajat Kapoor have made valuable contributions to the movie. Go and watch the movie guys to know more about the how the movie moulds after so many lies and truths. It is an outstanding movie and worth each penny spent on it.
Saanjhbatir Roopkathara (2002)
Awesome movie by Anjan Das & Planman motion pictures!
Saanjhbathir Roopkathara is a beautiful movie directed by Anjan Das. The movie is all about poetry. Joy Goswami is the story writer, also one my favorite poet. Saanjhbathir Roopkathara is a low-budget Bengali film produced by Arindam Chaudhuri, directed by Anjan Das. Saanjhbathir Roopkathara is about the unrealized dreams of a girl, played by Indrani Haldar. Indrani Halder is excellent and has portrayed her character brilliantly. Her dream is ultimately turned into reality by her father, played by Soumitra Chatterjee , who supported her and thus helped her start writing poetry at a young age. Saanjhbathir is an example of a great Bengali movie to the world and is one of the best till date. The director is excellent and so is the cinematography. It is a must watch for all movie lovers.Saanjhbaatir Roopkathara is a landmark in the world of Bengali cinema.
