Resident Evil (2022)
If it were under any other name...
I found this to be quite entertaining and watched it over a couple of days. I was wary of all the bad reviews but I'm glad I have it a go. It's not perfect, initially there is a lot of virtue signalling and there quite a bit of relative teen angst/drama but I think the actors did a great job with the material they were working with.
Ultimately it doesn't feel like a part of the Resident Evil francise in any way but I can't help but think that if it was not associated with the franchise, it would have been given a far better reception. It certainly isn't the best zombie show ever made but it is certainly not as bad as the one star some have given it.
The Handmaid's Tale: Heroic (2019)
An intense and fundamental episode
I believe this to be one of the most fundamental episodes of the season. We see June finally cracking under the intensity of Gilead brought to a head by the claustrophobia of being made to stay in the same room to pray continuously for someone she considered a traitor. After a discussion with a doctor and his selective morality, June realises that she can not look at the Gilead patriarchy as monsterous and inhumane when she herself has nearly become a monster in attacking Mrs Waterford and wanting to end another handmaid's life in what she sees as "the right thing to do". She realises that to maintain her humanity and morality, she must trust in her love for her fellow handmaids and force change from within for their childrens' future.
