Road House (2024)

Fun and silly as the original
23 March 2024
We can draw a couple of parallellisms with the original: cringy at times. The characters development is not there. The chemistry between the characters is enjoyably special, things go south in ways that don't make sense, and the spirit of fighting is as strong as the former. We see Road House for the action and fighting basically, the original may be a bit more subtle in the dialogues, thanks to a better script but I think this remake is more than acceptable for a movie that despite being a cult classic, it's not a gem of filmaking, no direspect. In this one, Dalton has a different temper but his phylosophy is still similar and his performance is very good. It's hard to criticized the acting of Mcgregor when the character he portrayed resembles himself so much in real life, but all in all you get the wild card antagonist that works very well in spcying the film. Overall, I got the same movie aftertaste as I did when I watched the original.

Great concept but fails to make sense
7 March 2024
The idea of this horror movie is interesting, gripping, very reminiscent of the 2014 movie "It follows". This is an evil that passes around using the bodies of the dead, though the idea of how exactly works is never manifested. The acting is very good, it never feels awkward. The rural setting is very faithful to the argentinian traditions and idiosincratic aesthetic. I enjoyed many scenes, but my only and big problem with this was the character development, due to a weak script. You can hardly understand the actions and motivations behind the characters, sometimes leading to conclusions that won't make sense. I liked it, but hated it because it could have been great.

Martial arts at its finest but still missing something
30 March 2023
I was recommend this film by my eskrima teacher. The film portraits japanese jiujitsu and eskrima very faithfully, and It shows some of their traditions in a very beautiful manner. The ideals of the main character are honorable and also outrageous, which is interesting to see play out. The characters are filled with so much potential but the film leads them into nothingness, they don't have a purpose, it's like they are left behind at the end of the movie. You could have had a masterpiece here with some adjustments in the script, that's what gets me so angry. And also I hoped for way more displays of combat, whether in training, competition, or street fight, such a shame considering the techniques were on point. All, in all is a fine film for a martial arts enthusiast but if you are not, don't bother.

Good drama, bad action,
30 March 2023
I'll first point out ledger's brilliance in preparing and executing his character without getting much into that. Just brilliant. Now, what has always caused me great disappointment about the Nolan trilogy is the action, how action scenes are shot, almost like taking the focus out of the fight or struggle taking place. Maybe Nolan deliberately camouflaging his incompetence in that department. But anyway, dude, every time I see the joker he looks like an old man, when he is a very skillful guy with knifes and in combat. Now batman, each time I see him in the suit it's no hard for me to imagine an eighty-year-old man with arthritis trying to move around. This is the thing people seem to miss about it. This is just a drama. Some good and sometimes decent acting. There's no showcase of the years bruce wayne has been practicing martial arts god knows where. All in all, the action sucks, photography is just decent, nothing out of the ordinary. I you get me batman I want the fights in there, and better be good. No to take away from the production crew and everyone. I just wanted to point that out and get the hype down.

For me, this was a breakup after a 11-year-old marriage with the MCU
16 May 2019
I have a strong sentimental attachment for the MCU. I watched the movies for 11 years, and this was almost like a breakup for me. Infinity War was one of my best movie experiences, i was beyond shocked, exited and emotional. And happy, beacause no movie of the mcu has accomplished that in me, and was because the bad guy wins (happy endings got boring honestly), all those uncomfortable one-line jokes and witty remarks were few, all the encounters and character development were meaningful and wonderful set, and the battles, my god, the battles were so epic, so imginative and so so great. all of what this movies lacks. it´s 3hrs of pure emotion, with a bad written story and not particularly appealing visuals. It seems as if they went with the first draft of the scrpit. i can´t understand all the glory this movie gets. I feel very ripped off

The good old undercover narrative device
9 January 2019
No one can´t deny the relevance of the true story. The struggles and adversities of the afroamerican people have been resepresented in films various times. While many have show profundity and intense pasions in the plot others were made for the sole purpose of entertainment. I dont see anything but enterteinment here. So a black man in joins the police in a time of great racial conflict and infiltrates the KKK (not himself but another detective using his name). The good old undercover narrative device. i´ve seen the exact story various times: the romantic relation of the main character, the dynamic in the grup the inflitator is in, the conflicts between characters, etc. the clan or "the organisation" at any point seems threatening, just a bunch of red neck hanging out. And although the perfomances are enjoyable, no actor tried to individualized their characters. Thus making an average movie too long for his own sake. I think this movie could have been something 20 years ago. Now it just looks trite

Breaking Bad (2008–2013)
9/10
The best TV show of all time
26 November 2017
Who hasn't watched Breaking Bad? it has become a cult show in so many countries at a level that hasn't happened before. Everyone says that it's great, that no other show can top it, and they are right, but why is it?

How can someone not like a guy, a chemistry teacher in his fifties, who looks at his life and says "fuck it" and starts cooking meth, in the same way we like the character of Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. He kills the monotony in his life, which makes the plot full of possibilities in many aspects of the story.

The most important trait of Breakin Bad is the originality of everything. It doesn't have a source material. Everything looks fresh, with no clichés and no trite elements. And if you are a movie buff you may have caught some references to classic movies, especially, Tarantino's movies.

Each episode is powerful, filled with emotions and character development, interesting dialogues, and situations of all type. Every character, every scene, every dialogue, every shot is meaningful for the whole of the story.

From episode one to the final episode the series reached a climax, and level of expectancy never reached by any other TV show.

I've watched breaking bad three times, and I've always found some new deep peculiar meanings in the plot.

I have no doubt that this is the best TV show of all time.

A Gunfight (1971)
An acceptable western movie starring two iconic American characters
25 November 2017
The movie does well, but not for his direction, script, photography or even wardrobe, which are acceptable. The line that separates this movie from the classic battered western movie is its peculiar choice of actors.

Starring Johnny Cash and Kirk Duglas, the plot is based on the expectation of the town folk for knowing who of the two is the best gunman, when Abe Cross arrives at the town where Will Tenneray is trying to set a quiet life for himself.

All in all, it's one of those acceptable movies, except in this case there are two iconic American characters.

Kingdom (2014–2017)

Never have I seen such a great show be overlooked and underrated this way
25 November 2017
I've seen Kingdom since his birth and I had watched it closely until its end. An end which emotionally devastated me.

The show submerges you into the world of mixed martial arts and the lives of those involved in a family business. from beginning to end it 's all about fighting the difficulties each character has on its way.

The characters are complexly built, and along with the performances it makes the entirety of the show an earthly exciting drama, empty of clichés and elements of soap operas. I highlight the characters because they level the each episode to an uncontrollably climax.

Since Kingdom is one of the best TV dramas I've ever watched, it comes as as surprise how is often overlooked or underrated.

The Punisher (2017–2019)
2/10
We got a soap opera instead of the show we wanted
21 November 2017
When I heard Neflix was giving the Punisher his own TV show, I just remember Jon Berthnal's relentless insensitive blood-thirsty Frank Castle, and the awesome confrontations with comic book characters in daredevil season 2, and I was beyond excited. But to my surprise, I saw more Punisher in Daredevil than on his own show.

Episode one promised a season packed of action, shootouts, blood, mobs and a heartless Punisher, which didn't happen or as much as anyone expected. instead they went for compassion, love and sympathy the rest of the episodes, until the last two episodes where you could get a glimpse of the Punisher. But even then, it was always about frank castle and struggling with his emotions in a civilized manner.

In my opinion, as a fan of the Punisher and speaking for all the die-hard fans too, we wanted more of what what promised in daredevil, less sympathy and more pulling the trigger.
