The Boys (2019)
First Season was Awsome... second was meh...
I have to say, I was somewhat sceptical about this one. But a friend recommended it to me and I started watching. And boy, oh boy, was I in for a surprise.
The first scene with A-Train got me really glued to the TV and I couldn't wait to see more. The plot really well written and the idea behind the show really came to life. I have to be honest, I have never seen a show like this one. Every action had a reason and you could relate to why the characters were doing, what they were doing.
I liked every single episode. So far, that I binge-watched the entire first season.
But theeen... came season two. Somehow they lost it. I don't know if they picked up other writers, or whatever happened, but the series lost its soul. Funny to say that, since some of the characters were actually "finding their soul" through religion. The plot was dragging along and I could litteraly see every single "plot twist" and "surprise moment" coming from miles away. And the characters felt like they stagnated in one place and they themselves didn't know, what was coming next. They did try to mix it up with some provocative topics, but they just fell flat on the ground and never got up again.
The performances of some actors were really great. Especially Antnoy Starr (Homelander). He really carries this entire series. Sadly they lost Elisabeth Shue (Madelyn Stillwell). I think she was one of those, who stood out. The other ones are kinda flat and undeveloped characters.
I really hope season 3 will be better, because it would be a shame if this show goes down as one of those, that could've been great but didn't live up to its potential.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Meh! Mediocre movie where you can get lost easily
Honestly, I didn't think too much about this movie to begin with and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed.
At some point I was sitting in the movie theater and I was asking myself: When is it going to end? Now I'm no expert, but that's not a good thing to be thinking about while watching a movie.
I am not an overly huge Ben Affleck fan, just given his past performances in some movies. Here he actually delivered and showed some good acting. So did Cavill. But for me, the best thing about this whole movie was Jesse Eisenberg. He really made me enjoy the few moments he was on screen. Now he is the "bad guy" here, but he kinda made me root for him after the first few scenes with him. It was just an astonishing performance as Luthor. In some way, he reminded me of the Joker from the earlier Batman movies. He really gave Luthor a new twist and I totally bought it.
As for the rest of the movie, it was kinda a see-saw of scenes. At one second you're in this scene and without any connection, it cuts to a totally different scene and then cuts to another scene after that. You can easily get lost in all of these scenes, that you don't know what you're actually watching.
And finally the big thing between Batman and Superman. The dispute between them seems a bit too forced, but (I don't want to spoil the movie) it ends too quickly and with a stupid reason in my opinion.
All in all, it is a movie. But not a movie that I would recommend to my friends or any other movie lover. If you're interested to watch this anyway, I would wait for the Blu-Ray.
Man of Steel (2013)
Didn't meet the expectation
Well. After the Batman series, I thought Mr. Nolan had this one worked out as well. Although he's not directing this one, I thought, as he played a part in the making, this one is going to be big.
Going to the movies with this premise, I was kind of disappointed. The movie itself is, let's say OK, but never reached the excellence of The Dark Knight.
Generally speaking, this movie is darker than all other Superman movies. It gives you a new angle of Superman and all the happenings that lead to the fact, that Clark Kent decided to become the Man of Steel. A great and easy to follow story.
I'm not trying to say that this is a bad movie. It's by far the best superman movie I've seen. But in my head, it had to be better, since I compared it to The Dark Knight. It might not be fair to draw that line, but well.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Totally not worth it
Fist things first. This movie is not worth the time, nor the money. And here's why.
The entire movie is just a load of huge kaiju crap. I mean, Godzilla-like creatures attacking the world. That's the one thing. But building giant robots to fight them... well. Not buying it. Especially the pathetic idea, that two fighters need to control those huge machines. It just didn't click. It's not well written and the plot just stumbles from one scene to another.
The actors add to that experience. The "wants-to-be-tough-guy-has-been- fighter" comes back to save the world, after losing his partner in a fight. Like, we've never seen that one before. And of course he has some issues with his commander at some point. His acting is just not appealing at all. And the other actors are not any better.
Just 2 hours of wasted time.
