Night Catches Us (2010)
All around excellent!!!
The rating for this should be higher. The performances of everyone involved were excellent. An excellent immersion of Black Panther Party idealism in a drama setting. This should not be missed whether one agrees or disagrees with aspects of the Black Panther P.arty.
Bu ze shou duan (1978)
Pleasantly surprised!!!
Picked this up for $3.99 on a double-feature DVD including "Drunken Tai Chi. I knew this was a Bruce-ploitation film and I wanted to see the action scenes. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of time and effort put into the movie. The plot was interesting enough but not unusual for this type of film. It is "loosely" based around Bruce Lee's death. Elements of sex, courage, competition and love are included. The film has several interesting fight scenes and I enjoyed the ones between Bruce Li and his trainer the most. Also, the film was shot in several locations including New York and Chicago. Sound and picture quality for this film were good. I also liked the voice actors used in translating this film to English from its native Asian language. Definitely worth viewing!!
Shao Lin yu Wu Dang (1980)
A classic featuring the Poison Klan!!!
The Poison Klan aka The Venoms have several entertaining martial arts films and 2 Champions Of Death is no exception. This film pits the Wu Tang against the Shaolin. As with a lot of martial arts films revenge and betrayal are behind the action. The fights are fluid and there are plenty of them. These guys don't seem to pull their punches!! Sun Chien is a terrific leg kicker and he showcases his talent very well in this film. I found the storyline easy to follow and interesting enough to hold my attention between fights. Also, picture quality and sound were adequate.
The Poison Klan were martial arts experts introduced in the film Five Deadly Venoms. They each had their own lethal fighting style. The actors that played The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard and The Toad gained popularity and went on to star in several martial arts films together. Collectively, they are known as The Venoms. In addition to Sun Chien, The Venoms include: Lu Feng, Wei Pai, Chiang Sheng and Lo Meng.
Xin jing wu men (1976)
Classic martial arts film with interesting plot and plenty of action.
I just finished watching "New Fist Of Fury" and I found the plot to be interesting and the martial arts action entertaining. Jackie Chan does a commendable job in one of the first films of his successful career. Unlike "Rush Hour" and other films that have followed it, Jackie's demeanor is mostly serious. The martial arts action is fast and intense. In addition, the plot draws the action together nicely. The familiar themes of revenge and bitter discourse between the Japanese and Chinese are present throughout. I have seen the original "Fist Of Fury" with Bruce Lee and I feel that this film is a worthy successor. If you like classic martial arts films of the 70s and 80s; this film is for you.
