Grey's Anatomy: One Day Like This (2018)
Sarah Drew For The Win!
Absolutely incredible writing with regards to that segment, and an amazing performance by Sarah Drew to carry it. I'm not religious, but even I cried. Her performance brought me to tears. Hope to see Drew in some more shows!
Grey's Anatomy: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (2015)
My Potpourri Penelope.
The tension in this episode was excellent, beginning to end. So many people all learning the same shocking news at the same time, all of whom had a close relationship with Derek. They each react differently, but in ways that truly reflect their individual character. Great acting. The writing was excellent too, in that the previous episode, focusing on informing families of a loved one's death, relates back to how atrocious Penny was at that, and it also relates to how Meredith is undergoing a current trauma being faced by the person who she will always remember as the person who told her that her husband died. Irritating, however, how it never comes out that Penny had known the right course of action and how much she had pushed for it. They keep saying she killed Derek, but it was her attending who killed him, not her. Maybe it's the lawyer in me, but Penny did her due diligence!
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Filled with Intensity, Disappointment, and Low Expectations
Let's go back to the episode right before this one, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." The directors and writers of Game of Thrones have set us up with an entire episode of saying goodbye to our favorite characters. There's no action, no real changes in the plot, besides Arya losing her v-card, and that isn't much of a plot changer (although it does make you wonder about Robert Baratheon's statement regarding uniting the Stark and Baratheon Houses). Point being, the entire episode was dedicated to reminiscing with our favorites. We watched them accept the fact they were going to die before they even started fighting. We were prepared to see them go.
Fast forward to this episode, "The Long Night," and what do we see? The deaths of Ed, Lyanna, Beric, Theon, and Jorah. Two B rated characters, and three Cs. This episode did not live up to the hype it built in the previous episode, and that is a failure.
However, this episode left me on the edge of my seat. There was never a dull moment. An entire episode focusing solely on the Battle of Winterfell, without even a glimpse of Westeros, and I was never bored. I had oohs and aahs and a mouth open like a trout. So for that, I give 8 stars.
This episode, however, leaves me anxious and with low expectations for the remainder of the show. It deserves to end on a high note, but I'm afraid it's lost the ability to do so. How have the directors and writers planned on making a battle against Cersei more hyped with intensity than a battle with the White Walkers? The White Walkers had every reason to have been the most intense fight ever, and to be the grand finale battle scene of the show, but Cersei? She doesn't even have elephants!
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Growing up with this Show
I have to say, I think Grey's Anatomy was and is probably my favorite television show. It started as just a show to be interested in, but it evolved, characters grew, a large part of the show focused on right or wrong, which is something I focus on a lot in life. But now watching the last few episodes, I can guarantee I will cry during each one. I'm seeing the characters I watched grow from residents to Harper-Avery Award recipients, get married, have kids, lose friends and family, face almost every adversity someone like myself pictures themselves going through- and I'm not even on the same career path. I've seen how hard one has to work to achieve what they want, and the sacrifices they made along the way. The Office was my favorite, but it lacked the perfect ending and the complete character development this show provided. I got very attached, and will miss this show with all my heart!
