Seeing Heaven (2010)
One very weird Gay-Community film re: gay interactions
This was a film that deserved more than one viewing as this film was quite intellectual, definitely soul-searching and soul-search-able, was quite the thought provoker, AND the actors were quite cute to boot. Speaking of actors, the actor playing the main character was definitely someone that Jonathan Frid, he played Barnabas Collins in an old television series, would have been quite proud to see to join the Brotherhood of Vampires; the actor as the main character was that serious, that cold, that vulnerable, AND yet still very human. This will definitely be one film that I will add to my permanent collection, and one that I look forward to watching again. Compared to the other "gay" films I have seen to date, this one stands out. Why? Simple: it brought you in with its puzzles, with human interactions from a very gay-oriented perspective, and you had to stay to the very end to see how this movie ended.
The Seminarian (2010)
This is a relatable film to my experiences as a gay Christian.
Truly, I went into this movie with curiosity, interest as the film deals with a seminary student, I had attended a seminary for a time, and I too have been watching a number of gay films recently.
When the film was over, I was joyful, I was satisfied with regard to my curiosity, and I was able to relate in many ways with the ups and downs experienced by the main character.
Because I could relate to the character, because I believed the actor was portraying a gay character, because the other people were like people I have encountered so far in life, and because the film pretty well answered and addressed some of my questions as a gay Christian, I give this film a 9 out of 10.
Further Tales of the City (2001)
This was good; great story; fine acting; and surprises galore
Truly, truly, I was even more surprised when I saw how much was "revealed" in this particular sequel; sorry no major descriptions--instead I highly recommend that you see this for yourself. Thought this was a fine ongoing continuation of "More tales of the City" which opened some doors that were promptly closed within this sequel. Enjoyed seeing more life in the City, San Francisco, enjoyed seeing the scenery, and I enjoyed seeing the ups and downs of relationships. One such relationship I enjoyed seeing was between a certain "daughter" and her mother--again no names as I definitely recommend that you see this sequel for yourself and find out who I am referring too.
More Tales of the City (1998)
Very fine sequel and continuation of the ongoing story.
Considering the surprises that occur within this sequel, I would highly suggest that followers of "life" in San Francisco watch this sequel. Truly, I enjoyed said sequel, especially with regard to the reveals, with the amount of skin that is shown, and with character development. For me the story line, the story arcs, and the like made sense. Not sure what else I can say without giving away plot points; can state the photography is special, the editing was without flaw, and that the color is outstanding. As I stated at the beginning, there are a number of surprises throughout the eight episodes, and each surprise surpasses the previous one. Thoroughly due to the surprises, the story line of living in a special part of San Francisco, and the relationships that develop and change, this is one fine sequel.
