Wonderful, surprising, and touching!
11 February 2007
I've never been much of a Katie Holmes fan or an indie fan, for that matter. However when I came across it in Blockbuster, I decided "What the heck, worse comes to worse it's a bad movie" - boy was I surprised! I have gained respect for Katie Holmes and Patricia is phenomenal! It doesn't matter if you have a good relationship with your mother or not, this movie is enjoyable and I (my mom is my best friend) was able to relate to this film! I laughed and cried (at the same time). The biggest misconception about this film is that this movie is not about Thanksgiving, I mean sure it takes place during this holiday but it's about relationships - and movies the explore relationships are, in my opinion, the best kind of films.

High School Musical (2006 TV Movie)

hmmm...well i wasn't expecting much to begin with
20 January 2006
The moment i saw the trailer, i felt hope and happiness...i was ecstatic that Disney channel was finally making a movie that didn't just revolve around a sport...this one seemed to revolve around theater, or so i thought to begin with. As an avid Disney movie watcher, i can't help watching corny movies, i wasn't expecting much. Although i was hoping that i'd be surprised i wasn't. Let's start with the basics: acting: the actors were decent...they didn't blow me away and they were'nt as bad as they could have been. singing: wow...some of the singing sounded awful...the big numbers and "Gabriela" were fine but the lead guy "Troy" was awful and so was the bratty girl. dancing: Actually, for me, the best part of the film the big numbers had nice choreography. Don't expect Bob Fosse or anything, but it looked very rehearsed and together. storyline: terrible script...kind of like a 10 times worse version of Grease without the good music, the great actors, and the quirky lines which made the movie a classic. Typical jock isn't allowed to like the nerdy girl or sing cuz it wouldn't be "cool" enough for his friends. I suppose it could have been worse, but it could have been much better!

Garden State (2004)
10/10
What a great movie!
21 March 2005
I watched this movie on a plane, and I really had no expectations what so ever. I have never heard of Zach Braff, but Natalie Portman I recognized from the Star Wars movies. (I'm really not a fan of Star Wars). Anyway, I watched the movie and I fell in love with it! It's a movie about life... It was beautifully done, you really love the characters. I can't believe that Zach Braff wrote this! He's a genius... I was a bit disappointed that the Oscars didn't give this movie a nominated for "Best Original Screenplay" I just didn't want the to end! So if you don't know what movie to pick for a boring Friday night, Garden State is definitely a great choice.

only one funny scene!
27 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
*Watch out my review contains a spoiler, if you have not seen this movie yet, you may not want me to ruin it for you... if you want to find out what the ONLY funny scene in the movie is, read ahead*. My favorite scene in the movie is when Whoopie Goldberg and the guy from "Three Men and a Little Lady" go to a Japanese restaurant and Whoopie Goldberg takes a whole gulp of Wasabie, that's the only funny scene in the whole movie, trust me. Other then that, the movie is pretty lame. I was actually surprised that Whoopie Goldberg was even in this movie, anyways if you want to watch a really bad movie definitely rent this one.

The theme song is better than the actual show....
27 February 2005
This show brought Will Smith into the spotlight and made him famous and for that i'm grateful. Apparently I have to fill up a minimum off 10 lines so. What else? Let's see, well i watched the shows years ago and I don't remember much except that I like Will Smith's character the best.I found him hilarious. I remember that he had a very stuck - up cousin that drove a Mercedes.and I remember Tara Banks was Will Smith's girlfriend.Although I did love the theme song better than the actual show I still laugh in reruns of episodes, and enjoy the fun and witty script of "The Fresh Prince of Bel - Air". Wow...I just said a contradiction...oh well!

Doc Hollywood (1991)
6/10
Cute....
27 February 2005
Doc Hollywood....when i was started watching it on HBO, and i first saw the cheesy title i decided to switch the channel. However my batteries of my remote control had died, and me being as lazy as i am, didn't want to get up and switch the channel. So i just sat there, and thought Michael J. Fox, how bad could it be? As a fan of Back to the Future i also happen to think Michael J. Fox is extremely cute...and in this movie his charm and good looks don't disappoint you. Of course his acting ability is another story. There were definitely a few parts of the movie that I felt bored in and at times i thought how long is this movie going to last?!?!? But then there were times when i actually liked it and laughed (a little bit)...Anywayz Doc Hollywood is nothing to rave about, I probably would not see it again, but if there is nothing better to watch on TV then why not?

Close....but not Cigar!
16 February 2005
I was really looking forward to this film! I thought it was going to be another hilarious film by Pixar...I was slightly disappointed. I think i was disappointed because my expectations were too high. I went with my little four year old brother and a friend of mine, and we nearly walked out... My brother fell asleep for about 15 minutes...it was honestly boring for about the first hour or so...When they actually started the action it got exciting. This was definitely not an easy film to take in...especially for a 4 year old, in fact its sort of depressing. I must say i wish they cut out about an hour of the film or put it on fast forward seriously...There's so much you can take! Anyway, i might not mind seeing it again if i have the remote control so i can fast forward! If you insist on seeing it, go without any expectations. Maybe then you won't be disappointed...

Collateral (2004)
7/10
Jamie Fox is really good!
16 February 2005
When I was returning from Australia, I looked at the TV movie guide to see what movies i was going to watch during the next 14 hours. Collateral was the best one out of all the 5 movies I watched. When I saw a preview for it, I thought it looked like crap. I usually dislike Tom Cruis' movies just because I think Tom Cruis is a bad actor. I had never even heard of Jamie Fox! Besides...with an exception of Die Hard I'm not much of an Action movie fan. So let's just say my expectations were really low. So I started watching this film and the more i watched it, the more i started to love it. I was pleasantly surprised! Even Tom Cruis had fine acting moments...but the star for me was Jamie Fox. What a performance! I hope he wins an Oscar either for this or for Ray because this was definitely his year!!! I thought this movie was very cleverly made, the script was witty and powerful. Performances were wonderful (I was actually scared of Tom Cruis!)... It was a great film and i look forward to seeing it. Maybe next time i won't be so jet-lagged! :)

Amazing!
16 February 2005
This movie was moving, touching, beautifully - made, brilliant! Johnny's Depp performance was brilliant. So was Kate Winslet's, and every actor who was in this movie... The director is a genius and this movie was much better than Monster's Ball I can promise you that. I find it fascinating how this movie was so different from Monster's Ball! I mean it's the same director, yet i wouldn't have thought that unless i looked on IMDb. From the first moment that you see it on the movie screen, you're hooked...and of course you cry at the end (even if you're a guy)! I mean Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp in the same movie, who couldn't love it?

Malena (2000)
4/10
It was just missing something....
24 December 2004
First of all,let me say that the movie was made beautifully. It was the acting and the storyline that brought it down. I was sitting there, watching this movie wondering if it was going anywhere for the first 50 minutes. It was like OK we got it, the kid's obsessed with Malena, and so are all the other guys in town. None of the wives talked to her, no one would sell her any food so she began prostituting for food which made the "wives" hate her more! It's just one ugly circle... Maybe the moral was don't start rumors? There were some scenes which I think they could have cut out. Also, the movie was oversexed just like in the movie Shakespeare in Love, that is of course my opinion. I felt there was absolutely no character development in any of the actors besides the 12 year old boy. The rest of the cast was dead(and I don't mean that they were killed). If you're going to see this movie don't expect something amazing...I did (2 Academy Award nominees, how bad could it be?) well in this case...BAD! 4/10 stars (that's low for me!)

Underworld (2003)
A bit of a disappointment....
29 August 2004
I was very excited when I heard that Underworld was going to be on HBO. My friends who saw it, thought it was a great movie. I was planning on watching a kind of scary movie, but somehow I was wrong. There was way too much action for my taste and not enough (i don't know the word for it) like eeriness was missing. The thing that really gets you into the movie. I found myself yawning and hoping that it'll have a twist. The end left it open for a sequel and I enjoyed how they ended it. But I don't know if the director ever heard of the expression "Less is More". They hardly had dialog and it was too much shooting and blood and all that stuff. So if they plan to make a sequel I hope that they will have more dialouge, more eeriness, and less fighting.

Mystic Pizza (1988)
Why is this movie rated R?
29 August 2004
I realize this movie was rated R because it's old but other movies that are old, (that are supposed to be R) are rated PG. I loved this movie. I watched it with my mom and we had a great time laughing at all the jokes and stuff like that. Julia Roberts looked so young, and it was great watching her performance. I loved the movie and I think it should be rated PG-13! As for the storyline it was OK. It's definitely NOT my favourite Julia Roberts but its a nice movie to watch on a rainy afternoon. Be sure to have a nice slice of pizza with you just in case you get hungry. I can't wait to see Julia Roerts and Jude Law in Closer. It comes out in December. Right?

The Village (2004)
I DON'T KNOW IF I LIKED IT OR NOT....
7 August 2004
To tell you the truth i was expecting it to be much more of a scarier movie then it really was. They made it seem like that in the previews. I enjoyed the Sixth Sense and i wasn't too crazy about Signs but as for the village i don't know what i felt about it. The acting was brilliant except for the actress who played Ivery. For the most part of the film me and my friend were sitting there trying to figure out if she was blind or not. Adrian Brody, in my opinion, was the best actor there and my favourite character. I thought it rather resembled this book i had read for school called Running Out of Time... so i sort of knew the twist right from the start which i think ruined the whole movie for me. It had this eery feeling about the movie, which i don't know how to explain... it was just weird. It's a very controversial movie, that's for sure. So you either hate it or love it. Whatever it may be, if you're going to see this movie don't plan on seeing a horror film, go without any expectations and hopefully you'll enjoy it!
