Tomorrow Morning (2022)

Feels like the work of a first time director

I kept remembering a scene from Honest Trailers' review of Avatar: "scenes that aren't properly lit". I'm not sure if the director was going for a natural look, like when the lead sings in her son's bedroom as he sleeps and keeping her face/the whole scene dark, or how you can still her the cupboards closing and the cutlery rattling when they sing in the kitchen.

It's not much of a musical when you can't her people sing, which happens frequently as the music overpowers the actors' voices, as well as other background noise.

The movie feels so amateurish, it's hard on the eyes at points. Some scene transitions, feel like they're out of a PowerPoint presentation, the lighting is wrong throughout and the songs feel shoe horned in. Not to mention it's quite clear they didn't sing live and you can tell they're clearly lip-syncing on a lot of songs.

I wonder how they got Joan Collins to be in it for 2 minutes and not even sing? Such a wasted opportunity, I think sums up her appearance, and the rest of the film.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)

Too many quips for little substance

I can only imagine how much Jim Carreys been paid to do this. So many bad lines and poor jokes.

The graphics are fun, the plot is actually bearable and engaging, but the end result is something only a 10 year old will enjoy (which isn't necessarily the target demographic, given the original Sonic game came out almost 40 years ago).

Sonic and Robotnik's lines are tired and unfunny, the whole marriage subplot is disappointing and unnecessary conflict.

The only good thing about this is the women fighting and the ending.

Nice ending to the story

A fun, twisted episode.

It links all the stories nicely together. Morgan Freeman is in his best form and retells all the other character's stories.

Why they made Dan Stevens have an American accent, when it's clear by the NHS reference this is set in the UK, I wouldn't know.

Humans, in the middle of a blizzard

I could see Echos of the series Humans here. Same with the Tom episode. A child is born and within minutes they age. It's an interesting concept.

I could also see echoes of The Shining, as she's stuck in the cabin, in the middle of a blizzard waiting to give birth. It's not as scary, but it is equally peculiar.

Best episode

It's got a really nice twist at the end.

You think she's talking to herself, but she's reliving a memory. It was an inventive way to tell the story.

I like how she starts the conversation light, but then spirals out of control and tells the final, heart wrenching twist. Well done.

Uzo is a waste in this episode. It's a shame, the production values are really good.

Helen Mirren saves the day

It's a bit hard to place Helen Mirren as being this shy unabashedly British lady (Oh I don't want to be a bother).

It goes to show her acting skills. It feels a bit weird that she's in a space ship. They could have set her in a home with a fireplace and made it more meaningful.

It's a bit far-fetched, and ultimately hard to enjoy, unless you're into sci-fi and listening to people reminiscing about their regrets.

Given we know in the next episode that it was a year before he died, why did they only have 15 minutes to hash it out? It felt rushed and just a man telling another man trivial traits about his family, like how his wife farts? I mean really....

This is basically Interstellar, with time travel mumbo jumbo and family drama. I mean, you have to admire her acting, talking to herself. If this was some unknown person, with lower production values, I'd rate it a 2.

Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)

Not worth anyone's time

Michael Jordan's acting in the original was poor, but could be forgiven (he's not an actor, after all), but this is just rubbish. LeBron's acting is poor, as is the rest of the cast, even the Tunes aren't funny.

Don't waste your time, if you want something for your kids to watch, I'm sure there's plenty of other things out there.

Date and Switch (2014)

Finally a movie without stereotypical gay characters

I've watched plenty of gay movies/series and unfortunately they always tend to stick to the same stereotype of the "queen", colourful, flamboyant gay men. This one finally breaks free from that mould and presents a consistent coming out/of age story with a non-stereotypical gay main character, someone who doesn't like musical theatre, Britney Spears and is actually on the chubby side, which was quite refreshing to see. Granted, it's still a teen/prom movie like oh so many out there, but the acting was fine throughout and the setting/location was pleasant too. It was good to see some familiar faces like Dakota Johnson, Megan Mullaly and "Ron Swanson" acting like his usual butch self, albeit with glasses this time around. I thoroughly recommend it if you are tired of the usual gay stuff and want something light and fun to watch.

Scary Movie V (2013)

Worst Scary movie ever!

I personally believe that after after Scary Movie 2, they started to lose quality and this one unfortunately didn't pick it up. The initial scene with Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan was interesting, but after that it's just a downhill of jokes that are not funny and the timing is completely off. The choice of actors was completely wrong and the acting itself is completely wrong for the most part. The parodies of the movie itself are completely wrong and so apparent, that it takes the whole joy out of watching this. At least the other Scary Movies had that bit of mystery which sort of left you guessing which movie they were making fun of and sometimes it was downright in your face, but here it is just 100% clear what they are doing and sometime don't even bother changing character names or change some of the events (such as Mama, for example) If Anna Faris or any of the other cast members had been involved in this, the movie could have been a bit enjoyable, as it stands, it may mean the end of the franchise.

8 Women (2002)

Could have worked better as a play

This is basically a "funny" version of Agatha Christie's "Mousetrap". It follows pretty much the same plot, but with a different ending and the play has a mixed cast, this is only women. In sum, it is witty, filled with typical French private jokes, which are understandable and feel international, although if you are French or are used to French movies, you'll probably enjoy and understand it better. I think that the acting wasn't appropriate for this movie, though. This directing would have worked brilliantly as a play, as it stands, it doesn't really deliver and the musical numbers are largely unnecessary. I'm giving it 6 stars because some actors do save the movie and make it an enjoyable piece, were it not for them, this movie would have completely failed.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

A movie with a great premise, undercut slightly by not so great acting

Unfortunately, I believe the only reason I'm scoring it 5 stars is because I'm a great fan of the Oz series, otherwise I would have given it a 4 or less. Everything about this movie left me a bit disappointed. The acting on everyone apart from some minor characters and James Franco left much to be desired. Mila Kunis starts out average, ends even worst. Weisz and Williams never actually deliver, the visual effects are mediocre at best and the soundtrack is hardly memorable. For a series known for its fantasy and beloved characters, its memorable tunes and brilliant actors who performed in iconic roles that were originated by it, it feels sad this movie oh so failed to deliver.

Identity Thief (2013)

waste of time

I basically decided to stop watching the movie after 15 minutes. The way the police handled him and said there was nothing they could have done, the way his boss handles him, the way she treats him after they meet and his reaction to all of it is just disgusting. I wasn't expecting much of Jason Bates but Melissa McCarthy should know better than to get involved with this.. They should have cast Jessica Alba or someone along those lines to prevent this from happening to people like me who have watched McCarthy's previous work and would be expecting a fun experience out of a potentially very funny movie, but all this movie is is a joke, and I mean that in a bad way.

Notting Hill (1999)

I honestly cannot understand what all the fuss is about

I honestly cannot understand what all the fuss is about this movie. It took me three days to watch it (granted I was tired and fell asleep through them), but when I got to the end of it, I could still not understand what all the fuss is about. If you want a truly admirable performance from either Julia or Hugh, search elsewhere. I'm glad this movie did work, because of all the tourists it now brings to Notting Hill, but I'm sure the residents would maybe think otherwise. The girl in the wheelchair and Ifans (Hugh's flatmate) give the best performances of the movie in my opinion and they have minimal roles. The plot is far-fetched at best and somewhat predictable too.. I saw it because apparently everyone loves it, but I certainly did not.
