The Soviet Story (2008)
Movie is an excellent sobriety of the socialists
As I see some reviewers rated the movie as "poor" with different agendas. Explanation? - Emotional reaction to disclosure of the disinformation narrative. And i see it often even in 21 cent. No socialist ever meant something good, it's a pity they have a voice now and are lying to people once more. The movie depicts what happened during 1917-1991. Even them themselves hatted the regime that day USSR crushed and proved the atrocities that regime done to most of the people.
Some of those socialists on comment say that movie should be taken with a grain of salt. May be, But they forget to add that situation might has been much worse, then we know. As USSR killed and destroyed everything that could prove their crimes and what IS told here is what HAS been already proven, thigh we know - it is not everything yet and we will find more crimes,
For me personally the greatest crime was to ignore the suffering of people, leaving Ukrainians to the enemy alone, pretending nothing happened. And we yet have very little desire to openly discuss what was done by the world, turning a blind eye as much as later with concentration camps, It should be revealed and publicly shamed - to prevent any such crimes to be possible in the world.
5 Days of War (2011)
Truth is the worst Russian's enemy
So why did I like the movie?
Because in 2008 I, as most of the world, was more concerned with my little deeds, than understanding war at neighbour country. Russian Federation is very skillful at lie, and it can distract not only from the truth, but from the tragedy in general. But later I studied what happened and was shocked. And then they attacked Ukraine with same methods. They ruined lives of millions of people and pretend they are not involved. Very similar to Georgian war. And only now I watch the '5 Days of War'.
Movie '5 Days of War' is a must-see. It's not just carefully picking sceneries of country and horrors of war. It shows in a brief way real documentary facts everyone should know. Movie made me shiver from despair, fear, sadness, horrific tragedy. And it's not just movie, reality is around us - just read some comments. And guess who left them. But before watch the movie and read some books about what happened (Marcel H. Van Herpen's would be good to start with).
Truth is the worst Russian's enemy. And always was.
Movie is a great asset for those who want to know history a bit better but lacks of time and effort to reveal the truth. In that perspective '5 Days of War' is almost documentary. Not fictional as all Russian propaganda's movies are('Avgust. Vosmogo' for example). The main thing - Mikko Alanne and Renny Harlin briefly describes for viewers those 5 terrible weeks - ordinary Georgian had to live through. All who studied thoroughly history of Russian-Georgian war would find movie to be not just good, but absolutely needed as even now Russian Federation continues to do everything possible to hide what they did to Georgia in 2008. And world still does not studied events good to oppose Russian aggression. People still doesn't know enough to understand such movie is a MUST for everyone who ever learn something about Russians and their methods.
Russian federations breed honor and does it not by mistake, but deliberately. They create criminals on purpose – to do the dirty things with other's hands. As always they use all methods, including (and especially) terrorism, to reach their goals. Also I have seen some commentaries here. You know - they hate, people who wrote them, they hate everything that brings light on the events, everything that tells what Russian did exactly. Only one "true-story" is allowed - Russian lies. I am not exaggerating. The have never opened KGD archives, they continues to terrorize, kill and lie. They are very good at lies. Don't be distracted with low evaluation - movie worth it, to understand what was happened and what is going on now. Movie is tough. It's only one little piece of horror that was brought from the north to the Georgia.
Good camera work, realistic big-scale effects and just very beautiful sceneries, people and culture of Georgia! It is worth seeing and such lessons must be learned so not to let repeat it in greater scale.
Bitter Harvest (2017)
First step into unknown
How many movies about 2-nd World War and it's horrors we watched? How good we know the topic and thus made it popular for Movie-studios?
It is a rhetoric questions and now we have a great deal of movies in pantheon: 'Saving Privat Ryan', 'Schindler's List', 'The Book Thief', 'El laberinto del fauno' etc. They are absolutely great and give audience real feelings of horrors of war and occupation. They recreate emotions people felt. They wake our imagination and show the true story of event's through peopl's hurts.
But what could have happened if world could not defeat Hitler's tyranny? And answer to that question is not always an anti-utopia as '1984'. We have real stories that have never been told, we have lot of terrors and crimes made to the human who could never rise their voice loud enough for world to hear.
'Bitter Harvest' is one of that movies - it has a very great deal of drawbacks: overacting, little scale of actions, poor camera work, and the main thing - actors who don't understand that deepest despair, total horror and loneliness of whole nation that has no friendly-country, only those who wanted to plunder and take something. The deepest despair is not shown at all. As example above '1984' - gives more bright emotion which was in human's mind.
Ukraine story of 1920-1991 is a story of nation defeated by tyrants and silent for centuries. People fought, suffered and died - unknown and futile victims. Their stories were never told to the world. The horrors of Russian occupation was so terrible - that hundred years after they are still forbidden for World to know. There was countless millions of Ukrainians who was always ahead in struggle for freedom, but envy of historical neighbors have neither gave real support, nor even allow to tell about Ukrainian identity. This despair is in the basis of national Hymn and ideology - to survive, to live through defeat and hatred toward you. Movie lacks it - seems George Mendeluk just don't understand that deepest tragedy of millions and tries to imagine what it was like - but he fails.
The main part is that despite drawbacks described above movie opens the topic for discussion and further work. It is absolutely sure it cannot be done without knowing the Ukraine, living here and knowing our live histories. This topic is of utmost importance as even now in 2017 Russian Federation does the same things they did fir centuries: they enslave. kill and LIE. Their lie is very loud and sophisticated, they 've made far more successful methods then Hitler's propaganda. And they have never been defeated as Nazis, so they turn reality upside down and even now defend all that was done centuries ago against conquered nations.
Movie lacks of authenticity, actor's work is absolutely synthetic, scale of actions is too narrow - so it cannot be rated as WorldWarII movies. But movie reopen the topic that is even more important than World War II - as crimes done in USSR in 1920's did the groundwork for all what come later. Showing this to the world is of utmost importance for history and humankind. This is the first step into unknown and George Mendeluk has courage to do that – so he deserves respect and honor. I hope that this topic will bring more masters to understand and bring world the truth that was concealed and ignored for so long.
