Doctor in the House (1969–1970)
Barry Evans was not Dirk Bogard!
31 March 2006
The Picture of this show is one of DIRK BOGARD the actor, who starred in the earlier movies. The Movie collection has no relation to the TV series which did star Barry Evans, among others. The TV series was released in the 1970's on VCR, maybe 6 episodes from the first season. (It was wildly popular on PBS stations here in the USA but not as popular in the UK where it was produced by the wonderful London Weekend Television). So if you are looking for the Barry Evans TV series, written by some Monty Pythoners, & extremely funny, be aware of the difference. Unless you want the Movie Collection starring Dirk Bogard, I do not believe at present you can get a DVD of the Barry Evans TV series.

Mod Love & the 60's in the UK
15 January 2006
Here is a 92 minute delight. I recall seeing this film advertised in the 60's & wanting to see it & missed it! So it was with great pleasure I recently acquired a tape & watched it for the first time in 2006! Was any youth as innocent as the kids depicted here? Likely the culture in 1966-67 when this film was released was less innocent. Certainly in the US, where Anti-war demonstrations were growing. But there is no hint of that here, no "gangs", no bad behavior over football, no drugs. Just the Boy wanting the Girl. Barry Evans & Judy Geeson are wonderful as Boy & Girl. The film is famous for some psychedelic scenes, and daring nudity, photographed wonderfully, but it really should be remembered for the light hearted romp it so expertly provides. The 1968 Film review in the NY Times noted the photography but was less enamored with the script. Perhaps seeing it then in the US, when more serious issues so affected youth, Viet Nam, the draft, war, body bags, the reviewers could not forgive the light hearted banter that is so much of the Barry Evans character. Yet that itself I find makes the period the film is trying to depict come very much alive nearly 40 years later. The film is highly entertaining, delightful and well worth seeing for the fresh talent and open eyed wonder of Barry Evans and the delightful young Judy Geeson. Here is a film that ought to be brought out on DVD.A whole generation or two might benefit seeing a more innocent time, and how nice it was then, minus the assorted horrors we now live with!

Hot for 1952
19 October 2005
I remembered this films ads. I must have been 10 or 12. It was Linda Darnell & Tab Hunter (a new Hollywood discovery) standing near naked on an island. Well I wanted to see it. I didn't. Years later I finally acquired a VCR tape. It was enjoyable. Great acting. Hardly. The script was all but ridiculous, and no actor could make it into a Shakespearean TEMPEST. They don't try.It does look as tho the actors were having a good time though. This was the movie that made Tab Hunter a star. Linda Darnel was a beauty. And for 1952, this was a hot rendition of look but barely touch. Wonder what the Legion of Decency thought of this film back then?

Revive on DVD ,IT'S A MAN'S WORLD
20 February 2005
I'm another fan of IT'S A MAN'S WORLD. All these decades later I remember the characters, the boat, & find it amazing so many people do recall this relatively short lived series fondly & yet UNIVERSAL Studios who is the successor to the Production Company, has not released the entire series on DVD. If they can find silent movies to restore, surely it is possible to restore a 1960's, 18 (maybe), episode TV series. I see the TV Museum does not have it. I see UCLA may have it. Surely someone owns the rights, I'd think Universal, and get about getting this wonderful series out again.I remember Tom Tom being my favorite character. Ted Bessell was a wonderful actor who did go on to co-star in That Girl with Marlo Thomas, And another of the actors made some later Highway 66 TV shows but other than that I do not recall seeing these actors elsewhere. It would be wonderful to see this entire series again. I remember it being very well written for the period that did not have much comedy drama.
