Battle Taxi (1955)
Great Movie
A very good movie for all the aviation buffs : it can easily be considered as the "Sikorsky H-19 " helicopter definitive film. Then , there are a lot of good old Sabres and Shooting Stars, some S-51 Hely and other USAF stuff of the period(F-51 , B-45, B-29, Hu-16) . Haiden was a super actor and Franz did his best. A must for all the Hely lovers and aviation fans. Typical production of the early fifties, mainly done to promote Air Force and to give an idea of the hard work usually done by the Air Rescue Service men. The aviation movies regarding the Korean conflict are usually full of North American F-86 Sabres and are the vehicle for daring and handsome Fighter Pilots. This B movie is an honest one mainly produced to inform people of the obscure and dangerous work the SAR people performed and still do in saving life of pilots.
Toward the Unknown (1956)
a great movie
William Holden at his best, a great cast with LLoyd Nolan as base Commander. Good story, marvelous air sequences and a lot of special airplanes since the movie airport is Edward Air Force Base (ex Muroc ) where all the USAF prototypes made test flights. In the movie there are several interesting planes like the XF-92 Dagger, the Martin XB-51, Lockheed F-94 C Starfire, Boeing B-50 and Bell X-2, X-3 Stiletto , Convair B-36, Convair C-131, The Thunderbirds on F-84 F. A must for all aviation buffs and Holden's fan. This movie is seldom seen and is not available on the VHS or DVD market. Among the actors, a very young James Garner .
Fighter Squadron (1948)
great movie , great planes!
Great war movie with a good cast. I think this is the very first apparition on screen by Rock Hudson, in a minor acting role. I like it very much because it is mainly a "Republic P-47 Thunderbolt" fighter bomber movie (not P-51 !!) and it is in color. The nazi planes are represented with some P-51 B colored like Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt ME 109s. There are several original Me 109 scattered around the globe and 2, at least, are still flying (an E and G version), in USA and England.. This movie is absolutely a must for all the aviation fan . I sow it since TV in my Country transmitted it several times in recent years, however it seems not yet available in DVD or VHS formats. Also a good memorial for the late Robert Stack,, who died in 2003.
