Copenhagen Cowboy (2022–2023)

Wished for more

It's always great to see cinematography that is out of the ordinary, which this series has in spades.

The initial unusual mysticism was really interesting, and I like the way the story unfolded in the first few episodes. It felt like a ship sailing on open waters with endless possibilities for what direction the story could have taken, given the solid underlying plot. And yet, about halfway through the series it proceeded to be more like a ship lost in the middle of the ocean without a rudder.

The characters just moved from one event to another with no rhyme or reason, and proceeded to move away from the one plot element that had huge exploratory potential. The change could have been a good arc, as free-flowing from one to the next is the nature of what a cowboy is, but it fell flat, the boat was sinking and the quality acting couldn't bail it out.

And then at the end of it, thrown in for no apparent reason was the most cliche forms of mysticism in modern cinematography. For what?

Throughout, I found it hard to wade through what felt like misogynistic themes, in-spite of the female lead. And I found myself asking, was part of it just a thematic circle jerk manifested on the screen?

Into the Night (II) (2020–2021)

I really wanted to like this, but the writing is terrible.

In particular season 2 was really bad.

The acting is pretty good in both seasons of the show, but whomever came up with the "problems" they face in season two was clearly all out of good ideas. Additionally the dialog is flat.

It's a shame really, because the plot makes it wide open to exploring interesting themes in a true sci-fi many without needing a tonne of special effects.

I liked that there were people of many different countries working together with a common goal.

I stuck with it ( barely ) and watched it all of the way through, but I would not watch again, and I would not recommend to others to watch.

a good film
18 October 2015
Quite a good film. Nicely delves into themes of patriotism vs morality. Interesting settings and the art directing was great!

The scenes "from Canada" were quite were quite funny as I am from the '88 Olympics host city. Although, interesting to the storyline, we do not have stripper places like that in canmore / banff and no cab driver would ever throw you out of the cab into the snow like that. We are Canadian! The driver would politely ask for the money and then ask your to pay the next day, or report it to the RCMP. The Cowboy hats were especially funny. They must have been bought in spain or online. nothing like a real cowboy hat (but what is a Canadian cowboy anyway besides a funny costume from the past??)

Overall quite a good film. I always like story-lines that are particular to a time and place and compartmentalized to intertwined lives. The Toivo was well developed, displaying characteristics of short-shortsightedness, hope, detachment from reality, and delusions of fantasy.

A funny, sweet and poignant film.

The Overnight (2015)

Better Films to Watch

Banal Dialog, predictable storyline. The seemingly endless night depicted in this film leaves you asking, will the annoyance of watching to the end of the film also be endless?

This movie dives quickly into full frontal scenes complete with prosthetics. The script feel like they copy and pasted from a multitude of other, but failed to full explore the themes that make those films good.

Both couples in this film, go through the very commonly explored issues of trust and self-worth.

At the end of the film, you are left with 1 or 2 chuckles and not a lot else.

Waste of your time, Do not watch.
