The Rock (1996)
Great Movie
The Rock is a action fans dream. It has action from basically beginning to end, a never ending supply of big guns, corny Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery lines that really only they can get away with. Add in Ed Harris and all the other amazing actors that were chosen to play in this movie and it really is the total package! What I believe makes this movie better than other movies similar to it is the depth that each character brings to the table. It's unclear at times who is truly the "bad guys!" That makes this movie so much more interesting. The movie came out in 1996 which I believe is around the real turning point in graphics and such. The blood looks like real blood and the explosions look realistic not exaggerated. All in all, I very much enjoyed this movie and it is definitely one that belongs in any action lovers collection!
Horrible Bosses (2011)
Fun and not expected
With Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day I expect three different types of movies. This movie took all of their individual talents and combined them together to make a comedy that belongs in anyone (who doesn't get offended to easily's) collection. This movie was not only fun, it was unpredictable. We knew the idea from the beginning three guys have horrible bosses they want to kill but how it's played out is what's fantastic. Another great thing about this movie is the A list celebrities who play the bosses, (Kevin Space, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston) and the "murder consultant" Jamie Foxx. Lisa Beach and Sarah Katzman did a wonderful job in choosing the roles for everyone involved in this film. Horrible Bosses was a Hilariously Raunchy film that I couldn't get enough of.
Here Comes the Boom (2012)
Predictable family fun
I believe that kids will really enjoy this movie, with the fun lines and the repeated fighting scenes it could easily be constant fun for them. As an adult, I thought it was a cute movie, but, Here Comes the Boom was so similar to every other "Got to come up with a ton of money to save the school, business, house..." type movie. Kevin James puts a fantastically lovable quality into this character but it's hard to believe someone in his physical shape could ever fight MMA and walk out of the ring without broken bones or at least a body completely covered with bruises. Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler and Gary Valentine also made you route for the music clubs success. All in all, I think it was filmed well, written well and played out well. Just maybe to similar to many others like it.
10 Years (2011)
Realistic
This movie was fun but parts where very predictable. I enjoyed that the movie showed the lives of these characters without necessarily trying to "fix" them. Many movies have recently tried to have a happy ending for all involved and in life that's actually not the case. The actors where picked well for their roles. The downfall is the depth of the characters. While, I got the total picture, and during the scenes could feel the emotions for each person involved, such as the awkward scenes being convincingly awkward and the happy scenes genuinely making me happy. In the end I didn't care what happens next. I probably would not buy this movie, unless it was on a super sale and would only leave it on t.v. if nothing else was on....
The Other Guys (2010)
Surprisingly delightful
Considering Mark Wahlberg is best known for his darker roles such as Four brothers, Departed, Boogie Nights or the Fighter. I love to see him play the funnier roles. Neither characters are very complex but the story line plays out very well in twisted way. I also very much enjoy Will Ferrells Character who is not a genius but also is not nearly as dumbed down as his typical characters. Eva Mendes also added fun to the screen playing yet another type of character she has yet to previously been. The story line is predictable but I don't believe in this brand of comedy anyone expects too many surprises. All in all it was very enjoyable comedy with over the top action, romance and tons of laughs.
The Campaign (2012)
Funny but has been done
There was some really funny parts in this comedy that pins Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis against each other. I must say the chemistry between the characters was fantastic but to be completely honest much of it has been done before. Will Ferrels role seems very similar to the one he played as Ron Burgandy in Anchorman. That being said I refuse to ignore the fact that when it was original, It was hilarious!! Very few men can play a character that people can love for being despised. Will Ferrell has a knack for hitting then nail right on the head when it comes to how far he can push what I can only refer to as "egotistical maniac behavior." That being said, I am certainly not running out to buy the movie but probably won't change the channel if its on t.v. either....
