Dave (1993)

Good for some kids and adults.

Kevin Kline stars in a funny comedy directed by Ivan Reitman. Kevin Kline plays both the real Bill and the fake Bill (whose real name is Dave). When the actual President of the United States named Bill died after he came back from his trip one night, his two agents try to find a look a like until they finally got their match. It's a lot harder as it seems for Kevin Kline, who now plays the fake Bill to run the White House. All except for the two agents don't know that Dave is a phony. Another funny thing is that the fake Bill's actions is much better than the real Bill's actions and characteristics.

Junior (1994)
7/10
Director Ivan Reitman directs another one of his funny films.
20 May 2024
This pretty funny movie is about two scientists. One scientist (Danny DeVito) convinces the other scientist (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to be pregnant once and as DeVito snoops around to find the perfect formula, he finds an egg named Junior. As he tests it out on Arnold, Arnold realizes that DeVito stole Emma Thompson's egg. What I liked about this film is that the script organized the laughs so it won't go out of hand. Another thing I like is that Arnold Schwarzenegger has pretty funny lines with Danny DeVito. I also realized that if you liked Twins and Kindergarten Cop, you might like this film the same way.

It doesn't matter how old you are, you can still have a good time seeing this film.

Jack Lemmon's performance is just fantastic when he stars in a film that should have got him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. This is a pretty interesting film for the whole family to see. It's about Lemmon's wife (Olympia Dukakis) who has to help her husband do stuff since he can't by himself. Meanwhile, Dukakis has a bad sickness in the frozen food section at the supermarket. Since she's at the hospital, Lemmon gets his son (Ted Danson) to take care of him. After Danson does, suddenly, Lemmon has a whole new life ahead of him and acts like a little kid again. This dramatic movie is good to watch even by yourself.

Danny DeVito is in good form throughout the film.

A man named Bill Rego (Danny DeVito) is ordered to be in the army for a while. There, he teaches one main class about the life of Shakespeare. The men that learn about Shakespeare in DeVito's class appear to have faith in what they have now learned. After that, Bill Rego appears to enjoy being a teacher in the army after all. Surprisingly, director Penny Marshall (the director of Big and A League of Their Own) directed this, which isn't really her style. There are a few flawed moments. The good thing about that is that the flawed scenes are equal to the good material in the movie. There are lots of good scenes shown in the movie.

The seventh Star Trek movie has an interesting reaction to it by Star Trek fans.

The Next Generation crew discover a villain (Malcolm McDowell) who develops a red ribbon (it's called a Nexus), which if you enter it, you can go back in the past and start remembering the times you had before. One thing I didn't like is that the opening has the original crew meet a different crew and doesn't show us how or why. I did see Generations in the theater because I liked the idea of the two groups working together, but it was mostly too blah. I liked Data's comedy, but there wasn't much action or interaction with the groups together, aside from Shatner and Stewart. I think the visuals were cool and it had some laughs, but the rest was nothing special. William Shatner is only at the beginning and end of the film.

A wan successor to its original predecessor.

Even though the animation is good, new characters are fun to watch and Don Bluth not directing doesn't mean that it's good. The Fatcat character (Dom Deluise) acts like he's going to be dinner with the hawks; like they want to cook him. It ain't creative. Nope, it's sure not. The movie is handed down to producer Steven Spielberg. The only time he does well producing animation is when he makes shows on channel 5. Now, your mouse Fivel and his family head to the West, where Fivel acts imaginative. Fivel meets the Sheriff Wylie Burp and then sees Wylie train the Fatcat. An American Tail wasn't that great, but better to see than An American Tail: Fivel Goes West.

It's hard to resist.

I'm not even a music person and it's just terrific. It's my choice for the best movie of 1996. Shockingly, it opened and closed. Not many people cared to see it. Of course, the best great movies are the most natural ones. It felt like a real biographical story, without being predictable or ordinary. Why wasn't it doing well? Tom Hanks was the biggest name with Apollo 13 and Toy Story in 1995 and Forrest Gump in 1994. His name alone should be big enough. It just baffles me. I give the theatrical cut 9/10 and the director's either a 6 or 7. I almost never enjoy director's cuts. They add scenes that aren't necessary and then the scenes that were necessary are boring because it took longer to get to them. The bass player had nothing to do. I don't know why he was in the movie. It just should've been a trio band. I'm surprised most of the actors went nowhere movie wise after the picture except Charlize Theron and Liv Tyler.

Casper (1995)
7/10
The special effects are pretty unique.
16 May 2024
I saw some of the Casper cartoons, they weren't bad. They were fair. Now, after seeing Casper on the big screen, I became amazed by it. I think it was the special effects. With its beginning not working out at first, Casper has two people (Eric Idle and Cathy Moriarty) try to contact a "ghost therapist" (Bill Pullman) to try and rid the ghosts and locate treasure in the mansion. The "ghost therapist" brings his daughter named Kat (Christina Ricci) along. Inside the house, they meet Casper and at first get freaked out by Casper's three Uncles. The main story is Casper wishing that he can come back to life. Not to be a ghost.

Babe (1995)

Babe is a surprisingly entertaining comedy.
16 May 2024
The computerized animals is amusing. The goodness of Babe is mainly its characters. The movie is about a young pig who has been sold to a man who has all sorts of animals crawling around his farm. His rats can sing, the duck thinks it's a rooster, etc. Oh, and the actors don't even know they could talk. It's just themselves. When the young, little pig gets used to the farm, he then strangely thinks he could become a "sheep pig." Though, he somehow does very well at it. He makes the chickens, half red and half white, line up in a separate line. Babe is mainly a movie that young ones would want to see.

Errol Flynn shines playing the legendary Robin Hood.
16 May 2024
With very energetic scenes based on the famous novel, Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) befriends his new sidekick Little John. They are trying to save Sherwood Forest when poor people have been severely ripped off by Robin Hood's enemies, Prince John and the Sherrif of Nottingham. Friar Tuck is the only poor character played by a star in this movie. The Sheriff always has to steal the littlest piece of money that anyone could earn. With sword fights, Robin looking out for his love, Maid Marriam, bows and arrows and the unforgettable scene where Robin (always in disguise) sneaks out for an archery contest.

Albert Brooks makes a movie about life and death. Albert Brooks' character just had his birthday party. On the way back home, he accidentally gets killed in his car and ends up in heaven. Rip Torn helps him since he died at a bad time. Brooks tries to defend his life the best way he can. Some people might think this film is sort of funny since it is a feel good type comedy. Others may think it's boring and others, like me, may think some of it was fun, other parts were boring. This type of movie isn't great to talk about. Those who are a big fan of Albert Brooks, here's another film I'll recommend called Lost in America.

Double feature starting off with Mr. Toad.
15 May 2024
In a place called Toad Hall lives a toad and his buddy Mole. They set sail with three adventures all lead by Mr. Toad. Next, stay tuned for the family/horror/animated movie The Legend of Sleepy Hallow. Ichabod Crane has a pointy nose and never moves away from books he's reading. One Night, he hears a bunch of people tell him about the Headless Horseman, a man who has no head, but wants to find someone at night to cut it off. Ichabod walks home at night. He could or couldn't be doomed after the Headless Horseman arrives on his path. Ichabod challenges the Headless Horseman, but you'll never know what would happen to Ichabod. Both Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleeepy Hallow are available together.

Pretty funny comedy.

Two next door neighbors (Matthau and Lemmon) have been fighting for no reason for years. Now, after those years passed by, a new woman who is a widow (Ann-Margaret), lives next door. Now, they finally have a reason to fight in this funny movie. To be perfectly honest, there were some scenes that have its ups and downs. Matthau and Lemmon enjoy working together since the 60s and 70s. All I can say is that if you don't remember seeing a movie with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, then you will definitely laugh once you see this. If you've seen a movie with Matthau and Lemmon, you might not laugh that hard.

Johnny Depp stars in this interesting dramatic movie.
14 May 2024
Johnny Depp plays Gilbert Grape and is worried because a lot of stuff is bothering him, which mainly is why it's called What's Eating Gilbert Grape from his problems going on; such as, his brother, who's brain doesn't quite work right and Leonardo Dicaprio plays him. He's a very good actor and I really don't believe why he just didn't get an Academy Award in this film. Another thing that's bothering Gilbert is he's worried about his mom since she gets made fun of because she's pretty fat. Other than that, Gilbert really wishes to be a better person. What's Eating Gilbert Grape is based on a book.

What a laugh, don't you think?
14 May 2024
This funny comedy stars Saturday Night Live's Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss. Bill Murray plays Bob Wiley, who has major, big problems and Dr. Leo Marvin, played by Richard Dreyfuss, tries to help this out of control man who has every excuse that he could think of when he hears that Leo is going on vacation with his family. Bob Wiley visits there and soon becomes part of the family since everybody in the family except for Leo likes him. Leo thinks that they care about him more than they normally would care about their dad. After that happens, everything starts to explode.

Rock-A-Doodle (1991)

A worthless family movie that even has a crummy title.
13 May 2024
Rock A Doodle is about a kid who loves to read the chapters of his favorite book of the same title. The book is about a rooster who has to hawk so the sunshine won't go away. One day, he had to defeat an owl, who is the main boss that won a fight and as he does, that means it will never show the sun out again since the rooster forgot to crow. The whole idea about the title is that the rooster became like Elvis is in a way. Meanwhile, one of the evil birds in the book came out of the pages of the little kid's favorite book and turned him into a cat. As he is, he and his other animated friends in the book try to find the singer and save the town.

Tim Burton should be fired since he made the film.
13 May 2024
In fact, the movie is not only not worth seeing, but also has no story to it and completely makes no sense at all. The closest I could get for telling you what the movie is about, is by saying that once again, Batman (Michael Keaton) battles the new villain named Penguin (Danny DeVito). The penguin wants to be Mayor of Gotham City in the worst way possible. Another thing about the movie is that Catwoman (Michelle Pfieffer) is Penguin's assistant, making out of control looking violence that are the worst violence and action I've ever seen. In fact, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.

A comedy that really shouldn't be made in the first place.
12 May 2024
In fact, Howard the Duck doesn't even act like the writer or director really wants an Academy Award. It's about a duck named Howard who lives in space and is the most popular duck in the planet. After the duck came home one day, suddenly, out of nowhere, there's an earthquake that had only entered his room and nothing else. He blasts out of space and into the real world. When he first enters the world, it's already a disaster to begin with. The first thing was that he was beaten up by two mean punks. Then, after he met a woman (Lea Thompson), they end up trusting each other until the next day's disaster. Just like this movie.

Popular T.V. series that's funny for the family.
12 May 2024
Dennis the Menace stars in the not animated, but actually real life big screen family movie about, like always, Dennis Mitchell, who tries to get along with Mr. Wilson, who lives next door (played by old-time star Walter Matthau). Meanwhile, a robber named Switchblade Sam (Christopher Lloyd) tries to steal stuff from the block, which was the thing I did not about the movie, since I heard kids in the theater saying that they're scared. Dennis runs into the villain close to the end of the film. That's when it acts like another Home Alone film without Dennis noticing it really is Switchblade Sam.

RoboCop 2 (1990)

Nothing worked at all.
12 May 2024
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Nothing in the movie was exciting or enjoyable. Robocop didn't do much throughout the movie. He mostly had an identity crisis with the computer chip in his brain making him forget how to be a cop and not know how to arrest someone or know when to fire his gun. The opening is already a problem since it opens with someone getting electrocuted inside a car after trying to steal it. The scene is handled so strangely. Also, the lead villain is a 11 or 12 year old kid who acts like he's much older. He's violent and profane and doesn't make sense for him to be the age he is.

I rewatched the original Planet of the Apes and while I still like it, I don't love it.
10 May 2024
Some of the pacing drags more than I remembered and the mouth movements of some of the makeup looked difficult for the actors to read the lines as apes. Sometimes, the makeup looked perfect with terrific mouth movements and body language. The characters Zira and Cornelius were just right, but some of the mouth movements for the orangutans didn't move naturally and looked stiff with re-recorded audio for some of the lines. Their mouths didn't open as smoothly. The action scenes are still good and so is the production design. I also like the main storyline. The opening in outer space is aged with bluescreen backgrounds, but most of the story and personalities of the characters hold up well. The final scene is still legendary.

It was a waste to make it in the first place.
10 May 2024
It is interesting that they would make a movie of Mario Brothers. Two plumbers, Mario and Luigi, meet a girl named Daisy and as the brothers help out, since there's a flood in her place, Mario, Luigi and Daisy get sucked inside a different dimension. Then, they meet the disgusting slob King Koopa that surprisingly is played by Dennis Hopper, which really surprised me that he was in a movie such as this. Mainly, it doesn't have a good story to it, to tell you the truth. Since this is based on the Nintendo game, Mario Brothers fans, what are you going to tell your parents once you see this film?

The Cable Guy (1996)
6/10
I wanted to like it, but it doesn't add up.
10 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The movie wants to be a dark comedy and already that's tough because I can't tell if some of the scenes are intended to be funny. An example is the Medeval Times battle with Chip and Steven. Was it funny how cruel Chip was acting? There were some laughs at first when they go to the Information Super Highway or play basketball and some witty bits involving a trial on tv that seems like an important twist to the story, but no payoff. The Cable Guy character isn't well written. How did Steven call him after we find out who he is towards the end? What happened with the trial since the button to the Satellite went out all over town? How does Chip have a living once we learn more about him and that he has no place to live except in his van? How does he even pay for gas? The audience is left with no results to various parts of the story and there's no real reward for the Cable Guy as a character at the end as he remains the same as the start.
