Bloodline (2015)
Excellent..... Until the finale season
It's sad, genuinely, how good this show is and how badly it falls apart towards the end. However, no matter how disappointing the last season might be, it did not obliterate season 1 and 2 for me. Not nearly. Bloodline starts off like a family drama with a twist. We don't quite know what the twist is about until about a few episodes in. The show has got a tremendous slice of life feel to it which, in a strange manner, exemplifies its genre moments. The first season opens up like a book. The second is pacy, even though it's not exactly a thriller. The third season, well, I don't know if the writers went on a holiday because it really just fell apart.
Still, Bloodline is a sure shot recommendation. I would even go so far as to say you should avoid the final season, if you can. If I were to watch it again, I know I would.
Répertoire des villes disparues (2019)
Grossly underrated
Cold, mind numbing and one of a kind horror. A movie that walks over various abstractions and gives you genre moments that hit you distinctively. We are way too used to being fed with jump scares in an unwritten contract sort of a way. This is one of those movies that does it differently. I could call it an abstract fantasy-horror.
Definitely an acquired taste so I'd highly recommend you to watch it and decide for yourself.
The Outsider (2020)
This show will be the next big thing
When HBO enters this zone, you know they're not messing about. Watching the opening two episodes, I got what I expected and more. The show is gorgeously gritty, cinematic and exceptionally mounted. Jason Bateman is in fine form as actor - director. Ben Mendelsohn is phenomenal (also a very interesting choice for this part).
Look, I don't know where this series is going. But I can't wait to tag along.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Nothing special
Still don't get what all the appreciation was about. Average movie. Lousily written with a lot of loopholes. Character motivations aren't given any time to form. Things are just taken for granted and expected to be "understood". Quite a few things aren't original. One of the worst Best Picture winners in years.
