Jesus Christ on a bicycle I do not like this episode

I did not like this episode. I can see the concept of this episode working, but this episode was nothing but depressing. Homer's mom returns (again), and Homer is a complete and total jerk to her, which is kind of understandable at this point, she keeps coming and disappearing again by the end of the episode, re-opening old wounds every single time, especially seeing as she just vanished from Homer's life when he was 12. That must have been very hard for him, and she waltzes back into his life 27 years later, then keeps disappearing and re-appearing again. I can see why Homer is the way he is this time around. He doesn't want to get hurt again.

Homer's mom promises she's staying this time around. Homer understandably doesn't believe her. Anyway, Homer realizes eventually to give her another chance. He goes downstairs with an apology card and..... she's died. I'm not kidding you. She is just sitting in the chair 'sleeping with her eyes open'. And we're only 7 minutes into the episode. This episode kicks you in the balls in a way that your balls will never recover.

The rest of the episode is just everyone being sad, and Homer fulfilling his mother's will of throwing her ashes in such a way that it foils a nuclear attack.

I really do not like this episode. The season 11 episode "Alone Again Natura-Diddly" did a much better job of killing a character off and keeping the episode from being downright tragic. This episode is basically nothing short of tragic. I felt depressed for the rest of the day after watching this episode. And that is not something you want in a comedy show. There is very little humor to balance out the tragedy here. So if you want to be uplifted, stay right away from this episode. If you want to be emotionally run over by a tank, watch this episode.

Superhero Movie (2008)

If you don't like toilet humour, just don't even bother.

Whilst this film probably won't appeal to adults, it certainly will appeal to 12-13 year olds. (but this film is NOT for small kids).

I myself was 12 when I first saw this film and I was laughing endlessly from start to finish. Obviously nowadays the sex jokes and toilet humour isn't so funny any more. This film is almost ALL sex and toilet humour. And despite the stigmas, some people just happen to like this kind of thing! If you happen to be one of those people, then GO WATCH THIS MOVIE NOW. If you don't like toilet humour, just don't even bother. Stay far away from this film.

I disagree on this movie's IMDb rating. I think even though I've matured and don't find toilet humour that funny any more, it's still good for what it is. This isn't a fantastic movie, but it's a good one that will lift your spirits (unless you've just lost a parent).

The Purge (I) (2013)

Great premise, but botched execution *SPOILERS*.

The premise of the film is absolutely amazing, but sadly, the execution of this was severely botched. We see the purge from the perspective of one family inside one household. That's it. The whole film. There is almost no action and almost no killing.

So the film is enthralling and you actually wonder, are these people going to make it out alive? Everything falls apart when the family's stupid son lets a total stranger in the house by lowering the shields. Does this strange-looking child have a single brain cell?!? This makes the house a prime target for a man and several masked killers. After some filler, the masked men get in and a huge action sequence starts. When the sun is setting, you feel the tension rising and you can almost feel their cabin fever. This gives the film lots of credit from me.

But then the second half of the film is just... infuriating. I lost count of the number of times a character was almost killed and then was saved at the last second by divine intervention. In real life, they'd all be dead within an hour. Simple. Yes one can argue it's many people in a small house, but still, the chances of THAT many divine interventions is less than those of being struck by lightning twice in one day.

This was infuriating to watch, and became more so after every time this happened. Which was pretty much constant during the second half. And of course, surprise surprise, it's the father that gets killed. Because it's always the father. We all saw this coming. Could this have been any more predictable? It was a real shame. I really thought they would throw a curve-ball and have the kid that started all the problems die. Or how about have them ALL die? That would have been certainly a subversion of expectations. But nope, we just get the head of house dying. And the girlfriend who didn't even need to exist in the film.

So I have highly mixed views on this film. 6/10 for the absolutely amazing premise and the 60% of the film that had me along for the ride, but minus the 40% that was one big cop-out.

Crocodile Dundee (1986)

This movie was on the upper side of average

In my opinion, this movie was on the upper side of average. It gave me a few laughs, and the ending was amazing, but I will not spoil it, to keep this review spoiler free.

For me, the main issue with this film was the pacing. A couple of parts felt very long and drawn out with filler. The first fifteen minutes were extremely boring and dull. This film can be a test of a person's patience, especially the first fifteen minutes. But everything changes after that, the film picks itself off the ground and becomes a fun ride, even if there is some padding here and there.

It's not a movie I'd actively seek out to watch again, but maybe if there was seriously nothing else on, I might watch a bit of it.

Hide and Seek (2005)

I'll give them a badge for trying

Could this film be any more cliché? Hide and Seek is about when a man finds his wife dead in the bathtub at two in the morning on New Year's Day and his ten-year-old girl daughter is traumatised and will not speak.

Then we get cliché after cliché for 90 minutes, as well as a stupid and cop-out ending. I will not spoil the ending because I think people should see the stupid ending for themselves. We've seen this stuff before so many times. Schizophrenia has almost become a stock plot for horror films. Gone are the days of vampires and witches. It's all just about mental illness now. And you only have to see 15 minutes of the film to realise this.

However, I will at least give them points for trying. They obviously tried very hard to make this a good movie. It just didn't work out. They tried to do a few twists, but they simply did not work.

4/10.

Throw Momma from the Train (1987)

This was a "meh" film.

I give this movie a 5/10. I have incredibly mixed reviews on this. So this movie is a comedy. It's not funny in the slightest. I laughed exactly once.

I felt that this movie contained cliché after cliché. Maybe in 1987 some of these movie elements weren't so cliché. I would list them but I want to keep the review spoiler-free. I also thought the ending was incredibly stupid and predictable. The supposed "twist" about Margaret's fate was as obvious as all get out.

That being said, although I didn't laugh, I did get very engrossed in this story. It left me wondering, was Billy Crystal actually going to do it? I found the crisscross idea very clever. This movie had potential, but it just wasn't the gem it could've been, in my opinion.

The word that came to mind after the movie ended was Meh. Not something I'd actively seek out to watch again, but it was semi- enjoyable nonetheless.

5/10 for mixed opinions.

Miranda: Three Little Words (2013) Season 3, Episode 5

This episode was almost perfect

Just 10 seconds in I am already laughing at 'toast spoons'. Just simply the randomness of this show just gets me every time. I laugh almost constantly just watching this episode, and it is in my opinion one of the best episodes of Miranda. This episode is a must-see! My favourite three little words are, "Let's watch Miranda". The customer was just so funny. The only part I don't like in the whole half-hour, which is why I have rated it 9 and not 10, is Miranda and Gary having a huge argument at the end. This is a similar problem to "A New Low". It makes me cringe and it upsets me that they have to argue at the end of so many episodes. The amount of episode that end on this kind of note can make the show feel a bit like a soap opera. Apart from that, this episode is perfect.
