Christmas Lodge (2011)
Comfort Movie
I have watched Christmas Lodge dozens of times. It is truly a clean and sweet movie. I actually have a love/hate relationship with this movie. I think the quality is great, and I love the characters, but as a movie that was meant to be christian, no matter how much it appears to be, there are so many errors in the beliefs.of the characters. First, when our loved ones go to heaven, they are not able to speak with us in any way or form. Nor do you need to go to a mountain to seek God. God is everywhere. As a Christian, I appreciate the goodness of this movie, but also, as a Christian, even one small error can lead people to believe false doctrines. One may think its not a big deal, but it actully is. I have to say the movie got the characters right; Kent was not a good match for Mary, and Jack was perfect. However, again, the role of Kent being some handsome city boy, was definitly off, he was more of a soft back, character that is, not the actor himself. We relate the movies we like, and we all have different comfort movies. It doesn't mean certain movies lack in substance, but for each person to connect to it in one way or another. Our own fantasies perhaps.
Some people may feel many of the characters are unrealistic. It's a movie, so it's going to be slightly dramatized. I'm only grateful it's not full of filthy language and nuidty. I would have given this moive a ten star, if it wasn't for my issue with the errors of life after death.
Doc Martin: Going Bodmin (2004)
Refreshing series that has some intelligent content
As a former medical professional, I Absolutely love these series. I agree with other reviews about the sassy receptionist. It's a more annoying part than it is cute. Not to mention the group of young tarts that patrol the streets obsessed with insulting the intelligent Doc Martin. It's just too cheesy and annoying. The series would be better without it. I love Martin's character, and do not find him grumpy but a little fed up with the village idiots. The only time I dislike his character a little, is when he throws the dog out. Better to throw out the 3 receptionists who are totally annoying, unprofessional, and have a serious problem with their dress code.
Comments During interviews have favored Louisa over Martin as if he's to blame for all their problems. Louisa seems to always be fishing for a confrontation. She expects Martin to agree with all she says and does. Martin is simply an intelligent doctor who takes his profession very serious. Not only is Doc Martin the top n his profession, but he's strong and doesn't usually back down. When he does, it does not fit his character. Doc Martin's character is every Sensible woman's dream mate.
The Book of Daniel (2013)
On my best list of biblical movies!
This being a new movie, I had doubts about it, but after watching, I had to give this the full 10 stars. Biblically accurate, and well done. I found it hugely inspiring. For any one who is a devoted follower, you will find yourself wanting to persevere as Daniel did, and to live as he did, being loyal to all of commitments, but placing nothing before God, nor ever breaking God's laws. I cannot imagine anyone giving this movie a bad review. Of course, if one is contemptuous, and desires sensuality, or vulgar language, this is not a movie that one would enjoy.
This is a movie, I will watch over, and over again. Thanks Chuck Konzelman, Cary Solomon, and Anna Zielinski. Well done!
Neria (1991)
Realistic of life in southern Africa
This is by far, one of my favorite movies. I have watched this movie dozens of times. You feel the characters, and you can relate to their circumstances.
I thought the characters were talented African Actors, and I wish there was more information about the actors themselves. I love Neria's character, and her friend Connie. I truly love them both. Connie's Character as a loyal and kind friend, the perfect friend that we would all like to have. It was easy falling in love with the characters, and disliking some of them, as well. The only thing about the movie that was off-centered for me, was Ambuya's character. At the beginning she was hateful, and disliked her daughter-in-law Neria, but further into the movie, she supports her, with much kindness and understanding. It was as if she were two different characters.
This is not a movie everyone will like, this is a special movie, and only certain people will appreciate it. It is not meant to be just entertaining, it is meant to be more informative. I love the music (Tuku), the scenery, and the communal lands. I have traveled to Africa many times, but never to Zimbabwe. It would have been awesome to have traveled there during the time this movie was filmed.
Indeed, a very special movie.
The Sins of Rachel Cade (1961)
Simple but powerful
I love this movie because it contains the strength of purity and goodness, but showing the frailty of human weakness. This is by far Angie Dickinson's best performance. I feel this role suits her better than the sexy roles she later played.
As a former nurse, I almost envied her situation. However, I would have fallen in love with Henri Derode, and not the Lustful Dr Wilton.
I loved Rachel Cade's bravery, standing strong in her beliefs, although her sin eventually weakened her devotion, temporarily. She accomplished so much with the people of Dibela, way beyond what she expected, and some of the them developed an even stronger faith than Rachel herself.
I was delighted at the end, that Rachel decided to stay in Dibela instead of going to Boston with the Lustful Dr Wilton. It would have been great if it had ended with Rachel marrying Henri Derode.
