The Orville: Midnight Blue (2022)
We have had Emmy contenders here!
The best episode of the season so far. I cried throughout the whole episode.
The Emmy contenders in this ep imho :Imani Pullum as Topa, Peter Macon as Bortus, Seth MacFarlane as Ed ,Chad Coleman as Klyden and Victor Garber as Admiral Halsey. I sincerely hope we can get the latter sing in the upcoming episodes, he has had some excellent pipes !
Legends of Tomorrow: Helen Hunt (2017)
A trip to Hollywood aka Helen of Troy meets 20th century
The recent Legends episode brought a trip to the 1930s. We met Helen of Troy, who time- traveled to Hollywood of the same era. Many confusions unfolded. I personally was disappointed by the outcome of her appearance in the 193O's. She clearly did not feel at home in the 20th century. It would be much better, had Legends traveled to the Ancient Greece era instead, and follow Helen in her natural environment. The other frown upon is the return of Damien Dahrk. I would appreciate much more, had Reverse Flash returned instead, especially when Matt Letscher is in my opinion much more charismatic than Neil McDonough is. Also I wonder why would Martin Stein, even if in a body of Jax, fall in love with some 1930s woman, when he was married with Clarissa and had a daughter! This defies belief and was the weakest part of the plot chain in my humble opinion. I saved the best for last. The Freaky Friday reference was freaking hilarious and i loved the way Franz Drameh impersonated Victor Garber's way of speech and also body language. And towards Victor's lines, who impersonated Franz Drameh as Jax, I had to giggle at the statement:" Doing the nasty in the past-y!" Well done Victor for saying this naughty line, I would never expect you, even through the mouth of your character, to speak in such manners :O I like Nate more and more every episode. And Ray is getting funnier every single time. Zari and Amaya seem to be on good terms likewise. And Mick has not gotten rid of his bad habit it seems!
Best episode actors: Franz Drameh as Jax/Martin Stein, Victor Garber as Martin Stein/Jax, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory
Legends of Tomorrow: Return of the Mack (2017)
Vampires, lullabies and returns
This episode brought many poignant and funny moments. I would like to point out the best ones: 1)Mick Rory has a fear of vampires! 2)Martin Stein has an ancestor from London, UK (a nod to Victor Garber, who was born in London, but this time Ontario, Canada!) 3)Ray has turned into crazy scientist 4)The interaction between Zari and Amaya is becoming stronger and stronger. 5)Rip Hunter and Damien Dahrk are back, and wonder, how the latter's acts will influence the plot line. 6)Jax and Marty have many on-screen great moments in this episode, including their heart- to-heart in the last scene of theirs in the current episode 7)We have gotten the chance to hear Victor Garber's velvety singing voice again!
Best actors in the episode: Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Franz Drameh as Jax Jackson, Victor Garber as Martin Stein and Sir Stein, Maisie R.Sellers as Amaya Jiwe, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory
Legends of Tomorrow: Phone Home (2017)
What an episode!
This episode was pretty emotional and funny in many aspects. It had some E.T. The Extraterrestrial references, and also Lord Of The Rings references. Younger Ray Palmer was cute, and so was the baby Dominator! I loved Mick here, honestly. His character is ripening every single episode a tad more! And, we had some tense moments between Jax and Martin, though as if the arguments did not happen, when these two and Mick meet at the maternity hospital Lily Stein, who just gave birth to baby Ronnie. I loved the nods to Singing in The Rain and Fiddler On The Roof musicals- I frankly was expecting in the former case Martin to hum along (which makes me add, that I hope Victor will get a chance to sing in Legends before he leaves). I would say this was the best episode of Legends this season so far.
Highlights of this episode: Boy Ray Palmer and the E.T references. The scale of emotions displayed by Martin Stein brilliantly portrayed as ever by Mr.Garber. Mick Rory and his beer passion and cracking jokes.
Legends of Tomorrow: Freakshow (2017)
A very good episode!
The second episode of season 3 brought both funny and emotional moments. I had to slightly frown upon the Titanic reference in it, though it was in my opinion intended to be funny, I think Victor Garber must be sort of annoyed of references to his hands down most famous movie role! I reckon ,that the freak show idea wasn't that bad! I have to say that Billy Zane is an excellent actor, whatever you may think of him! I was so happy that Amaya returned, though I wonder how she is going to fare in the coming episodes. Her opening up to the team about her recent problems was one of the highlights of the show. In the end the mood seemed to have gotten lighter, but to my liking too fast! I'd have the Legends meditating Amaya's confession in more depth, were I the creators! On the other hand, I was happy to actually see Victor (Garber) smile ( which he rarely does!). And I love Franz Drameh as Jax more and more every single episode! He and Dominic Purcell, and also Victor Garber are the MVP's of the show, and the latter will be in my opinion missed in it, when he leaves cause of Broadway duties!
Best actors in the episode: Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya/Vixen,Franz Drameh as Jax Jackson, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory, Victor Garber as Martin Stein
Legends of Tomorrow: Moonshot (2017)
Funny and emotional episode
As the Legends season 2 gets to its end, its getting more intense. And now the Legends were involved in the Apollo 13 story. This episode offered once again emotional and funny moments. As for the emotional moments, the number one was hands down Nate parting ways with Colonel Heywood. And also the Amaya-Nate talk. Ray was very funny as astronaut, and the 2001 Space Odyssey music was more than adequate,as he stepped onto the moon floor. I expected him almost to quote Neil Armstrong! Good there were no too much cheesy romantic moments of anyone in this episode. What made my jaw drop, was Victor Garber singing Banana Boat Song:) I would have never expected him to sing in Legends again, though I know he will sing in the upcoming Flash/Supergirl crossover. He still has it, this Victor Garber! I mean charisma and wit not only as actor, but also singer. Am so glad he sang here, for I think he is really underrated as singer! The Banana Boat Song stuck in my head, thanks Mr.Garber:) And Eobard Thawne has become my favorite Arrowverse villain, thanks also to his portrayal by Matt Letscher. Best acting performances: Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Nick Zano as Nate Heywood Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter Victor Garber as Martin Stein Matthew McCaul as Henry Heywood
Legends of Tomorrow: Land of the Lost (2017)
The Captain Is Back
Emotional episode from the very beginning. The Waverider crew is shipwrecked in the prehistoric era, yet thankfully the dinosaur-time story line is put into the background. Sara and Jax get into Rip Hunter's mind to try to get him back to the way he was before. They manage, yet are confronted by unexpected evil in form in some of the Legends doppelgangers, who seem to occupy Rip's mind. The effort of Sara and Jax to get the standard Rip back is really worth admiring. Victor Garber aka Martin Stein does show a vulnerability here, when he paces back and forth and is afraid whether the mind "occlumency", if i could use the Harry Potter comparison, would not harm Jax. One has to love Mick talking to Marty by suggesting overcoming his fears of Jax being harmed. The seriousness of the scene has unexpected funny ending when Mick puts a bottle of beer into the hands of shocked Martin. Ray Palmer is far more likable character than he was in the beginning, and the talk with Nate re the latter possibly dating Amaya, is one of the highlights of the show. And we get to see Gideon in person for the first time as human:) The moments when Rip wakes up and remembers everything, and when he shakes hands with the team, this is like wow and tear-jerking moment. And the Jax-Stein talk when the former asks the latter if he were alright, and the confession Martin does, shows great chemistry not only between the characters, but also the actors.
Honestly, its good to see the "normal" Rip back!
Best acting performances: Amy Pemberton as human-like Gideon Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer Arthur Darvill as Captain Rip Hunter Franz Drameh as Jax Jackson Victor Garber as Martin Stein Caity Lotz as Sara Lance
PS: Am I the only one to observe this, or has VG a haircut ?:O
Legends of Tomorrow: Camelot/3000 (2017)
A trip to medieval times, that was worth watching
This episode was taking place partially in the year 3000 and also in the medieval times. And it showed us some disagreements between the Legends team. Fortunately, they were short-term looking. This is in my opinion best Ray Palmer episode, and the best ever Brandon Routh acting, too. Ray had finally shown why he may be called a hero, and if I was considering any sharp words against Nate Heywood character in the previous episodes, I call it off. He may be crazy at times, but this was not the case. I cannot understand on the other hand, why the scriptwriters try to pair Sara Lance with as much women as possible. She was with the English Queen, and now the kiss of Guinevere?! Though Caity Lotz is great actress despite these story line flaws. I was surprised in the positive manners about improving relationship between Mick Rory and Martin Stein. Perhaps the heart-to-heart these two had some time back, helped the former to behave better towards Stein. The following note is not regarding Stein, but his actor. Am stunned how frail Mr.Garber looks. He stays though in my opinion one of the MVP's of the cast and his character is a mentor-like,too. And to end with my opinion of Rip Hunter- I still do like the actor of his, though the character did turned evil.
Best acting performances: Nick Zano as Nate Heywood Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter Caity Lotz as Sara Lance Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe Victor Garber as Dr.Martin "Marty" Stein
Legends of Tomorrow: Turncoat (2017)
Time for heroes....
This current episode was tense in many aspects. I have to say i really appreciate Mick Rory at his best here, his sarcastic lines, such as" I hate Christmas". I have to frown slightly upon another attempt at romance, though I have nothing against Nate and Amaya! And Jax being facing Rip by himself would be okay, but I still cannot take why Jax would have considered killing him.I think though he would finish his job, had Sara not intervened! It seems another Legend has a fear of something, this time Ray. He has fear of rats:O. And Sara being shot by Rip, and a desperate Martin trying to help her, the scriptwriters clearly wanted to show Martin, no matter how sassy he may seem, he still has a heart. And the way he yelled "Dammit!" at Jax, it so reminded me of other VG character yelling at the other one in one blockbuster movie 20 back ago!I have gotten chills. And the final Christmas celebration was a good breathing point after all the tension. It's clear though "Marty" was willing to celebrate Christmas, though he is a Jew.
Best acting performances: Caity Lotz as Sara Lance Franz Drameh as Jefferson Jackson Victor Garber as Martin Stein Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter
Legends of Tomorrow: The Legion of Doom (2017)
Tense episode in many aspects
Rip Hunter is still in grave danger. And he still doesn't accept the fact he is not Phil, but Rip. Mr.Hunter is tortured by a trio called by names Eobard Thawne, Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Dahrk. And these three are thinking of the most painful ways of torture possible. Am personally glad, that the director decided not to give a closeup on the most brutal torture, that Mr.Hunter had to endure! On the Waverider, the team of Legends is trying to work out, how to get Rip back to them. Martin Stein decides to call for his daughter Lily, who apparently doesn't know, that she is the time aberration ( the two of them meet Jefferson Jackson in the coffee store first, which apparently is not a good idea as for the matters of the privacy). Though this is still a secret, Mick Rory spoils it all by accidentally telling her the truth and Lily goes in search for her father. A desperate Martin tries to enlighten her, but she does not believe him. By the way, once again great acting by both Victor Garber ( who to my sheer shock looks much older now, yet his acting is still as excellent as ever) and Christina Brucato. A very torn-inside Martin then confides in Jax, telling him that he did not want to have a child, because of the fact, that he was afraid he would be the same father to the child as his father was to him ( here the question unfolds: was Martin Stein somehow abused by his father?).After this, Martin and Lily meet and have a talk, and the former explains that he is in fact a superhero. Lily chuckles and kisses her Dad,and apologizes that she would have to go back to work. The expression of Stein after she leaves, is more than emotional...
Plenty of questions arise again, we shall see up until the next episode! Best acting: Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne Franz Drameh as Jefferson Jackson Victor Garber as Martin Stein Christina Brucato as Lily Stein John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory
Legends of Tomorrow: Raiders of the Lost Art (2017)
Astonishing episode
The wait is over, the Legends are back. And so is Rip Hunter, who apparently doesn't at first seem to know about his past identity. Yet he in the end remembers.... This episode is also a tribute to George Lucas, worldwide known director, whom the Legends meet at times, when he was not yet that famous. And lots is in stake... And there is yet another plot line, and this is Mick Rory confiding in a person I would have least expected him to-Martin Stein, about seeing his Leonard Snart visions. Did I understand this right, or did Mick out to Stein? If yes, it would be the confirmation of the ColdWave shipping of some fans:) By the way, great acting of Dominic Purcell and Victor Garber in it. And I chuckled at "Marty" using "Astonishing" two times, as its his sorta catchphrase! Another highlight of the episode was the Sara-Jax talk. And the end was so funny, all of them watching a George Lucas movie!
All in all, a balance of comedy, and serious scenes. Best actors of the episode: Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Franz Drameh as Jax Jackson,Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory, Victor Garber as Martin Stein,Caity Lotz as Sara Lance
Legends of Tomorrow: The Chicago Way (2016)
A very good episode with minor flaws
The mid-season finale of Legends was quite good, but had some minor flaws, which I would point out now at the beginning: First flaw was the Al Capone subplot. The whereabouts of if were quite unclear and messy. The second major flaw was the idea of Reverse Flash impersonating Martin Stein (quite unclear from the plot how he would be capable of doing this). Now I would speak of moments, which have gotten me in this episode: 1) Len Snart comeback in the flashbacks of Mick's 2) Martin Stein finally opening up more about Lily ( by the way great acting by Vic Garber again, he is so good at intense scenes). And though Sara Lance at first was like: "What the.., you have a daughter?" she afterwards heard him out. And Sara confessing to him he were a great teacher for her, this was what I also liked. 3) Mick Rory gets better as character every single episode!
Best acting performances: Caity Lotz as Sara Lance Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Victor Garber as Martin Stein
Legends of Tomorrow: Invasion! (2016)
Legendary crossover comes to an end
The Legends of Tomorrow's episode 7 was the final part of the 4 TV show crossover. And I have to say, it was a very intense finale. Each and everyone had to take a decision, which would help diminish the aliens, which in the end really happened. But this episode was not about that only! We got to know more Ms.Lily Stein, Martin's daughter, who was astounded by the way her Dad kept distance from her. Yet, it seems as if though Martin, despite having primary doubts how to behave towards Lily, he had finally later on opened his heart for her... And the Stein-Jax talk was like wow, for so far it was Jax confiding in Martin, and this time it was for the first time when Martin opened up to Jax. Thank you, Mr.Garber, for excellent portrayal of M.Stein here once again!
Best acting performances:
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Raymond Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory Victor Garber as Martin Stein Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash
The Flash: Invasion! (2016)
The best crossover you could ever imagine
4 TV superhero shows crossover? Yes, it is possible. And the result was splendid. The task is,fighting the aliens. Yet, this is not all, as some of the people are influenced by the Flashpoint unleashed by Barry Allen. And thanks to Flashpoint, some surprises are in store.Such as the biggest one involving Martin Stein, who comes home accompanied by Caitlyn Snow (btw when Stein called her Ms.Snow, wasn't he supposed to call her Mrs.Raymond?). In my opinion the Stein-Snow talk was one of the highlights of the episode. And the sheer surprise of the former, when they arrive at Martin's house, and instead of Clarissa Stein there is.... his daughter, who is stunned to see him, yet he is very much confused....
Best acting performances in this episode: Grant Gustin as Barry Allen,Danielle Panabaker as Caitlyn Raymond, Victor Garber as Martin Stein
Legends of Tomorrow: Outlaw Country (2016)
Wild West Trip Once Again
This episode was in my opinion better at sideline plots. The main plot line, Legends preventing Turnbull from doing evil, was not bad, but not that great either.Ray without his Atom suit was far more vulnerable here. I wonder what is gonna happen though to Martin Stein in the next episodes, and most importantly, who was the unknown woman he saw in the visions of his. I have an awkward idea the scriptwriters tend to make Dr.Stein feel more and more exhausted, no matter if on purpose, or not. Due to him staying on the Waverider Jax could not use his Firestorm power by merging with him during the Wild West Trip.
Positive comments onto this episode:
Jefferson Jackson gets better as an character Mick Rory portrayal
Negative comments:
The attitude of scriptwriters towards the Dr.Stein character development Ray is still vulnerable
Legends of Tomorrow: Abominations (2016)
Wow...
The best episode of Legends so far this season. The best ever acting in any Legends episode by Franz Drameh. And the best ever acting by Victor Garber in any Legends episode! Martin Stein being comforted by Ray as he was scared of zombies, wow... And even more wow at Martin trying to get Jax to open up about his civil war experience memories. And also how scared he was ( Stein) when he saw Mick being turned into a zombie! Mr.Garber is ripening like a good wine and Legends is his best ever TV show performance since Alias! I wish he could get the Emmy nomination next year, he would have deserved this hands down! I was hardly ever shaking during some of the Legends episode in a way I did this time. Still mesmerized by it.
The Flash: The Fury of Firestorm (2015)
New opportunities and chances
Plenty of new things going on. A new Firestorm half is found and Professor Stein has a new partner to merge with, but the search was not that easy. There is also an dramatic turn of events at Iris West's family. I dare say this episode was the best ever acting performance of Victor Garber's while he were on Flash so far. I got misty eyed at what his character, Dr.Stein told Caitlyn when they were parting with him at the end of the episode - he commemorated her love of her life "Ronald" Raimond Best episode actors: Danielle Panabaker (Caitlyn Snow), Victor Garber (Dr.Martin Stein),Grant Gustin ( Barry Allen/The Flash),Candice Patton (Iris West)
The Flash: The Man Who Saved Central City (2015)
An breathtaking start of the season
It is come! The new Flash season! It promises plenty of tension and new challenges to be solved. I got really emotional by the fact that Henry Allen returned from the prison, but a real shocker was that Ronnie died:-( My top moments from this episode: Firestorm being joined for the last time, destroying Singularity, which costs the life of Ronnie Raymond Barry Allen comforting prof. Stein after the passing of Ronnie... The Flash/Rothstein clash Thawne confession,Henry Allen meeting his son again, and the toast in Hebrew by Martin Stein All in all, great episode, and really worth watching. And the best actors of this episode? Grant Gustin ( Barry Allen),Victor Garber( Martin Stein),Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Jesse L.Martin (Joe West).
The Flash: Fallout (2015)
Fantastic episode with outstanding cast
The best episode so far. Tension, drama, emotions.... Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein, yet separated, could feel each other's pain. I really appreciate the fact Victor Garber(a charismatic silver fox!)was cast - I daresay this was his most emotional acting in last 5 years. 2 scenes will stay with me forever - first, when Martin was stabbed and Ronnie could feel it, second when Barry opened up to Stein, while debating the possibilities of time travel, about his memories of his Mom being murdered 15 years back. Best acting performances in this episode: Robbie Amell- Ronnie Raymond Victor Garber - Professor Martin Stein Grant Gustin - Barry Allen/Flash.
Boyhood (2014)
Film of the year so far
I just returned from the cinema and am beyond speechless. This film had positive reviews, and I was not disappointed at all. Boyhood shows how from a boy throughout the years becomes a man. Mason Evans Jr., the main character, had to deal with many perils in his life, such as repeated divorce of his mother, alcoholism of his stepfather, breaking-up with his girlfriend, quarrels with his sister, and so on. Boyhood is the best film of the year. It leaves you breathless until the very last moment. The character description is so much brilliantly made, that when Bill, the second husband of Olivia,Mason's Mom starts to throw glass on everyone around him, you cannot help but yell out in pain, too. And when the broken Mom of Mason's packs him up for college, she opens up to him and complains of what kind of life has she had so far, and cries afterwards, you want to reach out in comfort to her. Director Richard Linklater has made a great job, this gets under your skin. Best acting performances: Ethan Hawke as Mason's Dad, Mason Evans Sr., Patricia Arquette as Olivia Evans, Mason's Mom, and Ellar Coltrane as Mason Evans Jr.
Moving Day (2012)
A film divided
This film is marked as comedy, but it is not that funny during the whole length of the film - the first part is a comedy, while the second half is concentrating more on the relationships among main characters - it turns into psychological drama with comedy elements. Shame the first part of the film is not that flowing as the second half. Best acting performance in this film is undoubtedly by Victor Garber, who even in a comedy does not lose his sense for dramatic portrayals of his characters, and uses his ability to express emotions in a very good way. Another word of praise goes to Gabriele Miller as Linda. The other actors are in my opinion not that good. *Spoiler* The end of the film brings tears to eyes. All in all, it is the film, which does not go into history of cinematography as one of the best of all time, yet it is a good way to spend a free time, particularly because of the outstanding performances by Victor Garber and Gabriele Miller.
