Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder (2023)
That is Doctor Who!
First episode was just a mess. Bad story, too much forced "diversity", annoying "epic" music all the freaking time, lame "bad guy" but Donna and our favourite Doctor are back. Maybe 3/10.
I've had some hope that this episode would be a bit (a lot) better. Oh boy, was it better! This episode could be placed in series 4, easily. The story was great, action and CGI were top, amazing chemistry between the Doctor and Donna, that "old" feeling is back. Loved it!
I just hope that this episode is the way they'll go with the next season of Doctor Who, and not the first one. Good writing, interesting stories, less preaching and you are good to go.
Please, don't mess it up!
Star Trek: Voyager: Meld (1996)
Brad Dourif
He did great job acting Suder. Creepy and unsettling, but never over the top. It's nice to meet someone outside the main crew characters and Suder was one of the best!
Also, it's nice to see Tuvok a bit frustrated. And wild. Vulcans are more...interestig when they are not like a piece of wooden statue. A little burst of emotions go a long way.
I'm not a fan of just-on-board episodes, that filler ones, but this one is quite different.
Dark, intense, serious...
Oh, don't worry. There is a nice and optimistic Star Trek ending, as it should be.
So, if they need a filler episode, please forget the holodek ones and make something like this.
Star Trek: Picard: Võx (2023)
Weeeeeeeeell...
This is not my favourite episode. It was too much of...everything!
1. Why Borg? Again. Changelings dudes were really cool villains, and Vadec, oh god, what a performance by Amanda Plumber! 8 episodes of building changelings motives aaaaand BOOM, let's go with Borg...
2. What happened to security? The most dangerous human alive, Jack, just grabbed a shuttle and off he goes. Bye-bye. What about some lockdown, force fields, tractor beam, torpedos? "Oh look, he's going away! Well, what can we do about it..."
3. Security, again. Someone thougt linking ALL ships in a fleet was a great idea. And they all went along. Really?!?!
4. Yes, you can just grab a shuttle from the ship controled by Borg and go on your way.
5. Enterprise F and really loud fireworks. In space. We saw it for a few seconds and I thougt thay Picard will take it over and do some cool stuff with it. No. It was there just to be there.
6. When they finally gave us Enterprise D, I didn't care so much. All those stupid stuff in the script just didn't make sense, by this point I was pretty dissapointed and honestly angry.
8 great episodes and one stinker right at the end. Now I'm scared what will they do with the final episode...
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Season 3 (first 5 episodes)
Can we call it like it is? This is Star trek TNG season 8. Well, close enough. And this is what we all ever wanted.
Season 1 and 2 were about the guy we all knew with a bunch of boring characters nobody cared for, in boring stories. Honestly, I can't remember what was it all about.
Season 3 (for now) is far more interesting. Yes, there is just one loooong story arch, again. But it's interesting. For the first time in "Picard", I can't wait to see the next episode!
It's great to see old crew back...
Beverly looks amazing, Worf is so cute as samurai/klingon warior/philosopher, Will is still the man I want to serve under...
Vadic as a villain is quite interesting, but we have to see who her boss is and I hope that the showrunners wont screw this up.
For now, it's great. I want to see more!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Fun, spectacular, but...
I like a darker approach in this one. When someone dies, it's not allways pretty and heroic. CGI is spectacular, as allways. Story is, well, passable. Not much more than that. Acting is a bit flat. Scarlet Witch and America are the weakest link. SW has two emotions, angry and sad, America is more Dora the Explorer than a Marvel hero. Ending is meh.
This is better than Eternals, but nowhere near The Avengers, CA, Ironman, or the first Doctor Strange.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
The best new Star Trek
After just four episodes it's hard to have a good insight, but SNW is easily the best new Star Trek show. Well, Discovery and Picard are not some competition, STD is all about our saviour Jesu... Michael Burnham, Picard is just boring, Lover Decks is OK, Prodigy a bit childish. SNW has some of that old taste of ST TNG, some likable characters (Pike, Chapel, Dr. M'Benga, and my favourite La'an Noonien-Singh), great CGI, good action scenes... All in all, after a long, loooog time I don't have to watch reruns of old ST to enjoy my favourite sci-fi franchise.
The Lost City (2022)
Overeacting...
Oh man, this one is a stinker! You have Sandra Bullock, but not THE Sandra Bullock. This one is from "Speed 2", and "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous". I guess she knew this movie is going to be bad so she overacted the hell out of her character. So did everybody else! Almost like in a parody movie. The problem is that this is not a parody...
Moonfall (2022)
So sad...
Cons:
1. It's wrong to say that this is sci-fi. It's just fi, becouse science part of this movie is nowhere to be found. Every single thing about gravity, celestial bodies, physics... All so unbelievable wrong!
2. Just one likable character. The rest of them...sooo annoying.
3. Too long. We have stupid and unnecessary subplot that takes about half of the movie. Just for some forced emotions.
Pros:
1. Some nice CGI scenes. That's it!
Skip!!!
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Dr. Phil in space
So, we are in season 4.
Every season have had it's story arc and in this one, it's the feelings. There is some cosmic thingy flying around and destroying planets, strange civilisation, "going where no man has gone before" stuff... But none of this is to important.
Feelings.
Every single character needs dr Phil in one scene and IS dr Phil in the next one. We're happy, I'm sad, they are scared, he's insecure, she's melancholic, I'm depressed, she's thrilled, he's angry, they are in love... And this goes on for about 80% of each episode. Even the finale of this season is resolved by feelings!!!
COME ON!
After all of those counseling sessions, there was not much time left for some actual Star Trek. Only Michalel Burnham is Jesus, Wonder Woman and Ghandi all-in-one character development. Again.
This can't get any worse.
This time for real, becouse I said the same thing for season 3.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Why?
I'm confused. What's the point with this movie?
Don't get me wrong, I was happy to see Neo and Trinity again and the first 30-ish minutes was very, very interesting. But, there are two hours left. Two hours of boooring mess! Nothing really new and iconic, nothing big and mind blowing. OK, there is no rubber Neo, this time they got him right. Action? We saw all of it in 1, 2 and 3, maybe some new yoga style shooting guns. Story? We have 10-15 minutes of flashback scenes from 1, 2 and 3, so...no, no story in number 4.
So, why does this movie exists?
Well, Lana Wachowsky said that shehad lost her parents and couldn't deal with that, so she brought back to life Neo and Trinity, two most important (fictional) characters in her life... That's it. The only reason. They have to be alive again and nothing else matters. Nothing else matters... Wrong reason to make a movie.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)
Surprise!
I liked it. There is nothing new about this one in the line, but it still feels fresh. You don't need to watch previous movies to understand this one. Characters are likable, acting is OK, no major plot holes, ending is good, it's just a simple, fun to watch movie. The only things I'm not a fan are the jump scares. If you watch some jump scare scenes without a sound, they are way more creepy. So, movie makers, less is much much more in this genere... Paranormal Activity goes on and I'm happy to see next one. 8/10.
Star Trek: Lower Decks: First First Contact (2021)
Amazing!
A perfect ending of the second season! Discovery let me down, Picard never grew on me, all I wanted was some fresh Star Trek with a "feel good" factor. Lower Decs delevered everything I wanted! Fun, drama, lovable characters, a ton of easter egs, everything... I can't wait for season 3!
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Great!
Well, that's a surprise! After reading the reviews on this page, I wasn't expecting much. Maybe that's a good thing becouse I worship everything with "Star Trek" name in it and I allways expect something new to blew my mind. Discovery (3) and Picard (1) didn't do that. Oh boy, not at all... Lower Decks are good. More than good. Compared to STD and Picard, they ar awsome!
Thunder Force (2021)
Booooooriiiiiing!
If you really, really want to see this movie, just watch the trailer. It's all there. I've made it to an half an hour mark and couldn't watch anymore. Not a single laugh!!! No humor, stupid plot, no humor, draging, no freaking humor! Trailer is just missleading, you are not getting all that fun and humor throughout this movie...
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)
My love for Star Trek is not unconditional
I love old school Star Trek, basicly everything before Discovery, Picard and J.J Trek. They have had their ups and downs and this movie is very much down, down, down...
Special effects are from TOS era, space battles are not in this movie, but the worst part of this is lame story.
We have some male bonding in the nature, rock climbing, camp fire, and a lot of bla bla bla bla bla. This goes for 28 minutes. Almost 1/3 of a movie!
There is one Klingon Bird of prey and a captain who wanted some action. We'll get back to that later.
The Enterprise is refitted and, of course, nothing works. But Kirk and his crew must go on a mission to resolve some hostage situation. This time there ARE other ships around, but Starfleet wants Kirk. On a broken ship.
How could we fill some of the movie time with something? Oh, let there be fighting scene. No, no ships, mano o mano. So, Spock's brother (yes, he has one, just like in a mexican soap opera, Jesus...) wins this fight an takes over the Enterprise. No guns, no lasers, no torpedos, but with "give me your pain" psycho stuff. Please!
Oh yeah, he needs the Enterprise to find God. Yup, G O D.
That Bird of prey found the Enterprise and almost made me scream "battle, finally!!!", but no... The Enterprise escapes in the last moment.
Then they reach "the centre of the galaxy" in a few hours. Really?!?! By what, transwarp?
Never mind, they are there, and they have crossed the border which couldn't be crossed. But they did. Extremely easy. No fun there.
They have found the "God", which is just some entity who wants to go off this planet, and they get rid of him by Spock's brother sacrifise. And one torpedo, OK.
That Bird of prey is there too, and we could have had a last minute fighting scene, but the Klingon general told the captain not to fire, and to APOLOGIZE to Kirk for wanting to attack the Enterprise.
My brain just exploded.
Books of Blood (2020)
Not Barker's Book of blood
Only one of three stories is from the Book of blood, the middle one. And it's the shortest one, but the best. First story is sloooow paced, and then s#it happens in an instant. Third story is all over the place, at the beginning then stops, and just before finale it continues. I don't know, it's like a filler just to have propper movie time, but adds nothing important to the movie. All in all, nothing spectacular but it's not a waste of (movie) time.
Unstoppable (2010)
Trains, yaaaaaay! And then, the movie...
I LOVE trains! The trailer was full of action, destrucinon, great actors and, well, trains. I must wach it! So I did.
Trains were there, yes. Some of destrucion was there, yes. Every single thing from the trailer and nothing more. The actors were there, yes. Good actors with garbage script. Action? Well, no. Most of the action was made by spinning camera, shaking camera, twirling camera... Spinning around the train, the helicopters, the characters, the grass, spinning ALL THE TIME! So dissapointing...
The Twilight Zone: The Comedian (2019)
Meh
It's the first one so I'll go easy. Well, it's streched to an whole hour, way to long. I didn't get that Twilight vibe from the original show and I wanted it to finally end and that's not wright. For the next episodes I want them to be more interesting ad weird.
Ad Astra (2019)
Daddy you left me, but it's OK...
Pros: the Neptune looks awsome!
Cons: every single thing!
I wanted to quit this movie 3 or 4 times becouse of Brad Pitt's narration, it was sooo annoying that I finally screamed "SHUT THE F..K UP!!!".
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
This is not a science fiction movie, at all. Yes, it is in space. Yes, there are some planets. And yes, there are some spaceships. Oh, yes, there are some space pirrates, AND a bunch of killer monkeys.
Wait, what?! Why?
Oh, no reason whatsoever. They are not important for the plot, they are just there. Maybe becouse pirrates are cool these days, and monkey eating astronauts are something new and fresh, I dont know. Or care...
Just forget about logic in this one.
You need to get in some spaceship, but you are not allowed in? Oh, just sneak in through propulsion engine of the rocket. During lift off...
You need to get back on your ship, a few miles away from the one you're standing on, but your transport pod is missing? Take a metal plate, jump up from the current ship in the direction of your target. You have to pass through Neptune's rocky rings on your way, but you have that metal plate, remember? It is your shield. Don't worry, those nasty rocks will not stop you, or even slow you down, becouse you NEED to get to your ship, so the laws of physics don't apply.
The dialogs? No matter who is talking, or about, the army guys, his dad, his girlfriend, space command, they all sounds like greek philosophers on steroids.
So, what do we get at the end?
"I was a loner but don't want to be one anymore, I hated my father for leaving me, but now I'm OK whith that". In space!
Geostorm (2017)
Bad SF, enjoyable F
So, there is no science in this movie, only fiction. I wouldn't mind if this was a Mars movie, but it's not. It's all about Earth and weather on it. On Mars, I'm not shure how the weather works, so you could sell me whatever story you want, even a temperature change from 50°C to -50°C in a single second. But this is Earth and we do know that much about weather so we can see what is or could be real in this movie and what is total nonsense. Well, nothing in this movie is nowhere near possible. After removing science out the way, we have...well...we have some nice CGI, aaaaand, huh, something about bad people trying to do b, good guys saving the Earth, Jim Sturgess overacting, lame soundtrack... If you like SF movies this one is not for you.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Good, for the most part
I like to read the book before watching the movie. So I'm glad that 3/4 of the movie is spot on. Everything I imagined reading the book is transferred to the movie just right, especially Rose. Ending is the thing I was not happy with. I know that this movie supposed to be direct sequel to The Shining movie, and changes were necessary, so the last quarter of this movie goes it's own way, different from the book. From that point the problems start to emerge. In Kubrics movie walking through the Overlook Hotel is chilling, you're just waiting to see (and at the same time you don't wan to see) what's arround that corner, behind that door... In this one, there no suspense, we know what's there. You can't make the same thing again, just to make a raw connection with the first movie, even Kubrick couldn't do it (he wouldn't even try). This movie should stick to the book and it would be just fine. Sometimes even King has problems ending his stories, but this time he did good, so why spoile it? Why, why, why???
Truth or Dare (2018)
Put your brain on standby and enjoy
This is perfect movie for watching it with a girlfriend/boyfriend, saturday afternoon, before going out. There are no really gore scenes, no jump scares, no hairy/dark/bloody monster, just a few friends taking a silly game gone a bit wrong. Oh, and a sadistic, twisted demon playing along. Doesn't sound so scary? Just think of your biggest, darkest secret... Are you brave enough to say it at loud, or you'd rather die? But for real...
The ending is just as good. We all like to think of ourselves as some sort of a heros who would do some great, heroic act to save somebody else (or the whole world) when needed, even if we might get hurt, or die. So, at the end of the movie would you choose to be a hero, or a human? It makes you think, and that is why I loved this movie.
