Tyke: Elephant Outlaw (2015)
Great idea, bad execution
The documentary's point is very simples and what you'd expect: the way animals are treated in circuses is bad and they should not be used in circuses, they should be left in the wild, where they're happy. Good idea. But the way the directors tried to makes us feel empathy with Tyrone, Tyke's trainer is absolutely disgusting. They're censuring animal abuse while trying to force compassion with the exact man who abused them. If the target audience is the unthinking overly-sensitive who fall in love by someone as long as some cheap emotional music is cued in, no matter what words come out of their mouths, they did a great job.
Space Force (2020)
Breaking news: Not The Office. So what?
With Space Force, Steve Carrell has shown that he can be more than the dumb, goofy, awkward character he's so well portrayed in The Office. That's what surprised me most on the pilot. Then, the type of comedy. It's both goofy and unexpected, both expected at times and subtle.
I just finished season 1 and have to say that my perception of the show went through a big roller coaster. However, I was constantly slightly and positively dazed with the turn it took every episode.
I have also read the critics reviews and have to say that I was not expecting that, which was foolish. One sees Steve Carrel and Greg Daniels and full on prepares one's face to cringe and laugh out loud. However, to restrict an artist, an actor or producer to play the same roll, to portray the same character, to write the same comedy, is plain unfairness.
I encourage everyone that has an open taste, a developed sense of humor, that wants to relax, to laugh and sit at the edge of the sit at the same time, to watch this show.
Carrel plays an amazing part, but my best praise goes for John Malkovich, whose mixture of calmness and wit make every delivery perfect.
TL,DR: Don't listen to the critics, don't expect something like The Office. It's a great show, with lots of subtle humor and an interesting and captivating plot. John Malkovich is a pearl.
