The Dick Cavett Show: Janis Joplin/Raquel Welch/Douglas Fairbanks Jr./Chet Huntley (1970)
Wonderful Crosstalk
On the Carson show, once the next guest was introduced, you rarely heard a peep out of the previous guests. Not so the Cavett show, and this episode in particular. Everyone joins in. After Chet Huntley is introduced, the subject of discussion is broadcast journalism, all have their say, concluding with a spirited exchange between Joplin and Welch. I miss this show.
The Dick Van Dyke Show: Stacey Petrie: Part I (1965)
Mmmmm
The first scene features Laura in a short tennis skirt.
The remainder of the episode could hardly be expected to maintain that level of interest.
Kraft Music Hall Presents: The Des O'Connor Show (1970)
I say I say I say
Whoa, this brings back memories.
This was a pleasant little hour-long variety show from the UK that aired for a couple of summers in the early seventies on US network TV.
Things I remember:
Des O'Connor, a very engaging personality, midway through a song inviting his audience to "sing to Desmond."
I Say I Say I Say: A rapid fire series of setups and punchlines delivered by regulars and guests as they stroll through a set; each humorous exchange began with one passerby accosting another with the words "I Say I Say I Say..."
I'd love to see a rerun of this show, haven't see Mr. O'Connor in 30 years, though apparently he's continued to enjoy a long career in the UK.
