Both Ends Meet (1972)
Both Ends Meet
This Programme used to be shown on Anglia ITV Regions on Friday evenings and had veteran comedian Dora Bryan starring in this LWT sitcom as Dora Page, a cash-strapped widow who has to raise her son Ronnie while working at the factory of Cannon's Family Sausages, run by Julius Cannon (played by Ivor Dean). The first series of seven episodes went out as Both Ends Meet but the second was titled simply Dora. On a regular basis good old Dora would patronisingly say "Yes, Mr Can-NNNNON!" and always seemed to get herself into rather desperate situations with the other girls in the factory. Both Ends refers to the sausages !
Around the World in Eighty Days (1972)
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 days. THeme Tune
I remember the catchy theme song to this colourful cartoon series. The villain was Mr Fix and the heroine that Fogg travelled the world for was dinky Belinda Mayes ! each episode Fogg and his companion Passportou were in a different country and Mr Fix was like a Dick Dastardly character who kept trying to foil the journey but was always outdone by the travellers.
Around the world in 80 days with Passportou. Around the world in 80 days with Passportou. So Fogg may marry Belinda Mayes, Passportou. Fogg may fail, because of Fix. Unless Fogg fixes Fix's tricks. Around the world with Passportou !
Catchy huh ?
A Warning to the Curious (1972)
Excellent.
I remember seeing this TV adaptation as a child and being terrified by the presence of the ghost imagining that he was standing in my back garden when I went to bed. Plus I lived in the Norfolk countryside where MR James set the tale was set. The spookiest scene must be when Peter Vaughan is digging for the crown and we fleetingly see the ghost over his shoulder. Also the frightening moment when the ghost is in his room searching for the brown and his tubercular breathing is heard. The drama really does conjure up the bleakness of some of the Norfolk countryside and the fear of what might be waiting in those trees. I am a great lover of horror films but if I need to feel a real chill this always succeeds in producing the goods.
The Feathered Serpent (1976)
Eclipse
I remember the scary chanting opening music with burning Aztec skulls etc. There was also a sort of whispered soundtrack notably behind Patrick Troughton's evil character Nasca (Whispered: "Nasca, Nascaaaa " etc. I also remember an episode in which the hero (Brian Deacon I think) is about to be burnt but he knows the exact time of the next solar eclipse and pretends that his magic has made the sky go black. Vague memories but boy would I love to see it again ! Anyone know if DVD is a possibility ? It's another of those adult kid shows like Children Of The Stones. The great thing about the was that it was a sort of horror type series for kids plus we learnt something about the ancient South American cultures.
