Godless (2017)
Too theatrical and predictable
What bothered me most with the show was the ridicolous fire fights. There was really no end to how they could stand out in the open, shooting, reloading, shooting and so on, and never being hit by return fire, all the while doing pinpoint shooting, while at other times, the baddies are expert marksmen.
The tactics they had while preparing for one or the other battle, was insanely childish - theatrical you could say - with directly stupid moves, non existent planning or planning that was so dumb not even ppl in the 1880ies would do that.
If you are aiming at watching a Western that could have been true, that has realism, this aint it. Jeff Bridges did some good acting, but the characters were generally cliche and predictable.
UFO Sweden (2022)
Underrated movie!
6.6 on Imdb does not make this movie justice!
This is a gem that deserves more attention, as it, contrary to many Swedish movies, has fun characters, it is well played/acted and manages to take you back to the 80ies and 90ies. Their attention to detail was great, with a lot of props and other things relating to actual 80ies and 90ies, action scenes were fantastic and special effects were tasteful and very well made.
I was very surprised how well the action scenes were made, with intense car chases and hard-to-make fast scenes - super cool to see in a budget Swedish movie.
It made me laugh and wanna see more!
Mother/Android (2021)
Great post apocalyptic movie
I have no idea why most reviews are negative. I am pretty picky when it comes to movies, but this aint among the bad ones.
It was a well written and played survival story in a post apocalyptic world. Nicely filmed, with a few intense long-take-scenes. Believable reactions to events unfolding, the action/violent scenes were gritty and felt rough, raw and mostly realistic.
Very few logical flaws, something that usually are very present in most movies.
I usually try to figure out plot twists and see if the movie is predictable, which usually means sloppy or unimaginative writing, ut this one managed to dodge all those things.
All in all, a very nice movie.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Superb!
This TV show really nails it! When so many other TV shows and movies fall to the lure of cheap scares, over the top effects, unnecessary and often boring action scenes mixed with stereotypical characters, Midnight Mass dodges all of that and preserves the mystery and the suspense.
The story is masterfully written; both normal dialogue kept me interested as well as the cermons and monologues. Hamish Linklater shines and his character has depth. The reactions to events unfolding is reasonable - I normally react to illogical reasoning, the breaking of "the rules of the movie universe", overly dumb characters and other things that break the immersion, but none of that happened for this one.
I am hoping for season 2, even though I realize the risk that it would be hard to lice up to season 1.
Black Summer (2019)
Best zombie show ever made
Black Summer is the best zombie show ever made, and severely underrated on Imdb. Here is an unordered list of what is great with the show:
- Great camera work. Stylish, long shots for both action-packed scenes or slow-burn scenes. Reminds me of those great long scenes in Children Of Men.
- Intense, well choreographed action scenes that capture the interest of the viewer.
- Credible characters, reactions and behaviors. Almost no unrealistic or over the top stupid behavior just to artificially try to push the story forward.
- No boring, clumsy and redundant side stories to detract from the story and to fill out the time with pointless drama; no lame misplaced love stories or family rama. Only Hard-core survival.
- Raw, brutal, bloody, gritty. They skillfully avoid predictability.
- Very good acting efforts, many in the cast should get awards. Credible, serious, believable.
- Good script that in connection with good actors gives an overall impression of the seriousness of the situation, unlike b-series like "The Walking Dead" where everything is plastic, arranged and sadly predictable.
See it!
