It's a Sin (2021)

Speechless!!
29 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've just finished the entire show in one sitting and the tears are still wet on my cheeks as I type this out.

This is nothing short of exceptional!! The acting, the writing, the poignancy of such a horrible chapter of history, yet infused with so much joy amid the horror too. You felt the genuine love the characters shared, whether romantic or platonic. The way they ever so subtly introduced the topic, first as background chatter, then becoming more prominent as the story evolved. Beautifully done!!

RTD has outdone himself!!! Hands down the best thing he's ever created!

Also, I so appreciate them mentioning Derek Jacobi and his boyfriend walking around in the open, and the very next episode, Richard Clifford (said boyfriend, now husband) has a blink and you'll miss it cameo as one of the older gentleman with the younger lovers.

It's not often a story grips me so fully that I'm sat genuinely sobbing over the fates of fictional characters. But from the utterly unexpected, shocking loss of Colin to the heartbreaking events leading up to Ritchie's much more expected demise, I found myself so invested and attached. 6 hours ago I'd never heard of this show.. Now I know these characters will live in my heart going forward. That's stellar storytelling for you!

It's not masterpiece theatre...
13 December 2019
... but it's not trying to. It's Michael Bay doing what Michael Bay is very, very good at. Compelling action, stunning cinematography and pyrotechnics galore. I've loved Michael Bay since I watched Bad Boys at age 12, a few years after its release. He does stylish and action packed like none other, and if you're into that kind of thing, this is your movie. If you're looking for the meaning of life, then Netflix has a vast catalogue for you to check out instead.

The actors had great chemistry, the comedic moments amid all the explosive were well balanced and the movie as a whole was well paced for a speed fest such as this. We got a bit of backstory for some, not all, which I'm hoping is leaving room for a sequel. I'd definitely watch the sequel.

All in all. I spent a very enjoyable hour and a half of my afternoon, cuddled up on my couch, watching this movie!

Time to pay the pied piper.
22 May 2019
A mix between lord of the flies and the classic tale of the pied piper, this iteration shows us just what happens when people are, for all intents and purposes, stranded on a deserted island with no foreseeable way out.

There are characters stepping up, characters standing by, characters feeling personally attacked by their loss of certain privileges.

There's drama, mystery and emotions running high, and in my opinion it's very well executed.

The acting is solid overall, with some performances that truly grab you by the heartstrings and others that chill you to your core.

I highly recommend this show!

Oliver's bargain with the monitor
14 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
With us knowing that arrow has it's final season, culminating in the crisis, and the comment the monitor makes about Oliver not wanting to die, but being willing to, to me is clear foreshadowing that Oliver offered himself as a sacrifice to keep the balance. No doubt in my mind.

I really liked this crossover. The humour, the references, especially the smallville one (big fan of that show) and the general tone, I really appreciated.

Hilarity and madness sprinkled with absolute insanity. In the best way possible!
30 November 2018
I've just finished the first season after a complete binge. I love Rupert Grint. I love Nick Frost. And the two together have such incredible chemistry, rapport and comic timing that it's just a toe cringing, drink snorting, belly laugh inducing joy to watch.

The supporting characters are also great in their overwhelming absurdity of nuances and stereotypes that make up this show. But it pulls it off. It does not remotely take itself too seriously, which is why it's so enjoyable. It embraces the madness and surrealism with flair and humour.

It's been a long time since I've been so gripped, entertained and pleasantly surprised by a show.

I haven't even started the second season yet, though I will immediately after leaving this review, but I just know that 8 more episodes won't be enough for me. Here's hoping for a third season!
