Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ Kesshôtô no Teiô Entei (2000)
Revenge of the Pokemon
Onto the third Pokemon movie in my Pokemon movie marathon! Need a backstory? Check out my review on the first movie.
The Good: While both previous movies gave some good fight scenes or Pokemon battles, this movie's fight scenes stand out. I'm currently watching the 13th movie, and I'm not entirely sure if a traditional Pokemon battle has even taken place yet. It's kind of hard to explain why they're good, but trust me. Probably the best battle of them all in the movie is fan favorite Charizard vs. Entei (a Fire Legendary Beast). This battle in particular will keep your attention.
This movie also tackles the issue of having one parent. The little girl in this movie lives with her father, I'm not entirely sure what happened to her mother but I think by the end credits she makes an appearance. This deals with some good emotional turmoil and essentially sets up the reason why the protagonist is fighting Entei. Not going to go into detail, just a review.
The Bad: Unlike the previous movies this movie actually doesn't have anything negative about it. Though this is partially due to the fact there may not be an antagonist in this movie. If I had to pick I guess Entei would be the antagonist, if not him then the Unown (hate those things...that is also how it's spelled btw, no K). So it's up to debate.
The Ugly: Nothing so far.
So overall this is yet another, for a third time in a row, must watch. Other people will say this is as good as the first one, and that is something I can agree on.
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ Maboroshi no Pokemon Rugia Bakutan (1999)
If you liked the first one, you'll also like this one
Onto movie two of the Pokemon marathon! If you need backstory, read my review of the first movie.
The Good: Might be a little odd to mention, since I didn't mention it in the first movie, but I liked the soundtrack pretty decently. However this should go without saying for that one.
We also get to see the series' main antagonists, which in nearly all the movies are pushed aside to PURE humor, show their good side in this movie to the point where they actually help the Protagonist multiple times in a selfless way. This leads to a nice little scene at the end where the pokemon Slowking breaks the fourth wall a little bit.
The Bad: The antagonist wasn't explained that well and wasn't that intimidating. This is a theme that seems to happen after the first movie, which did so very well with the antagonist. I can't remember the guy's name (He was that forgettable) but as with all Human antagonists in Pokemon he relies heavily on technology to deal with his evil deeds. His plane, ship, thing was the only thing making him a threat. What happens to it? Lugia, a Water-Psycic Legendary Bird, takes the whatever it was down in one Hyper Beam.
The Ugly: Once again nothing bad enough to be ugly. Maybe to add detail what classifies as ugly is something that gets repetitive or a character is actually annoying.
So overall this is another must watch for Pokemon fans of all ages!
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ: Myûtsû no Gyakushû (1998)
It holds up VERY well
This begins my spree of watching ALL the Pokemon movies. Backstory time! Why am I rewatching some and watching for the first time ever the others? Two reasons really. For starters Pokemon X and Y was recently released, which if you know anything about video games, is a very big deal. Second my friend began rewatching the original Pokemon series which inspired me to rewatch the movies, because there are simply too many episodes now for me to handle in College. Onto the movie! I'm not going to explain the plot because this is a review not a synopsis. How will I format my review? Well let's do it in the fashion that Clint Eastwood would approve, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The Good: This movie gives a very good backstory to the antagonist. As far as I can tell it gives you everything you need to understand who, what, where, why, and how. You understand the antagonist probably more than the protagonist, why is good. Every good movie needs an antagonist that outshines the protagonist, and boy does Mewtwo deliver on that.
It also delivers a pretty sad scene where everyone thinks Ash is dead, this ultimately lets Mewtwo understand the error of his ways, leading to a nice resolution. This level of sadness won't be surpassed until the 8th movie and no other scene comes close to this one's level.
The Bad: "Pokemon aren't supposed to fight, not like this." This quote said by Nurse Joy adds some confusion to the overall theme. Pokemon, if you like it or not, is a franchise based on at least semi-sapient creatures fighting each other to the point where one is knocked out. You can even find references of Pokemon dying in these battles. Keep in mind these battles are viewed as both a sport and an honorable profession. The best I can tell is that Pokemon are naturally aggressive despite the majority of them seeming pretty nice and will fight each other in the wild with or without humans involved. This theory is backed up by later movies, usually from Legendary pokemon. So I guess one day some people were like, hey lets make this a sport.
The Ugly: Luckily nothing in this movie is ugly, future films won't be so lucky...looking at you Movie 9....
Overall this movie is a must watch for anyone that has ever played Pokemon, watch the anime, or even seen a card. 10/10
Rabbids Invasion (2013)
Dear God...
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you...the worst show ever made. I saw this show on Nick and thought to myself "Oh I never played any of the video games it's based on, but I'm sure it'll be fine." despite remembering just fine the disaster that was Tak and the Power of Juju. I thought wrong, this show, killed my insides. What really hurts is that you know that they are trying to be funny, but they're failing so very badly it hurts you on the inside. I'll spoil this right here for you; the characters and plots are too stupid to enjoy. I watched two episodes, I had to text my friends about how bad this show was almost instantly upon the show ending. Stay away from this show, please, save yourself. You still have a chance not to see this.
Instead of this cancer I recommend instead four shows that are actually funny: Adventure Time, Fairly Odd Parents Regular Show, and SpongeBob Squarepants.
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
We must have been watching a different movie...
I cannot comprehend how this movie got positive reviews. When I finished watching this movie I said to myself, "Wow, that was a waste of time." The original movie was bad, this movie was bad, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that even the book was bad. Did you think this movie would involve some fantasy? Nope, that was false advertising. If for whatever reason you enjoy seeing a depressed child's best friend die, in a failuresauce way, then this movie is for you. Just to repeat myself, this movie is bad. I can think of several Disney movies that aren't even that great but at least deal with the story that was advertised. Watch those movies instead of this...I would say garbage, but you can find some interesting stuff in Garbage, unlike this movie.
