Extant (2014)
I cannot believe...
...Halle Berry turned down Homeland to accept appearing in this crap a few years later. She obviously does not know how to chose her parts!!
This series is beyond bad, the storyline, the acting, etc. and I cannot understand how an A-list star (who is probably D-list now) got excited about such a project. It is unquestionable that today, TV has become a credible vehicle for a lot of movie stars (Nicole Kidman and Resse Whitherspoon will have their own mini-series and let's not forget the recent performances of Matthew McConnaughey, Woody Harrelson, Claire Danes, Anna Paquin). I guess it's not too late to leave this uninteresting series behind and go back to worthwhile projects on TV or in Movies.
The Americans: Born Again (2015)
Amazing Episode!
This episode is the best to date. I have become throughout the seasons, a huge fan of this show and although I think that it is a bit weak in its conclusions, the creators excel at setting atmospheres and paving ways before the unavoidable outcome. This was particularly true in this episode, especially with the way Elizabeth and Philip try to handle the Paige situation. The scene between Elizabeth and her daughter in Gregory's old neighborhood was great and a clever way for spy mummy to rally Paige to her cause. As for Philip, I always loved him but this season sees him blossoming into an exceptional character. I'm totally siding with him by the way but I do understand Elizabeth's point of view. She's a true believer, so much so that she does not seem to see that she is herself manipulated, unlike Philip, she seems to have lost the ability to think for herself. She never truly questions anything that comes from the center, that's her weakness, she might lose everything, things that truly matter to her for people who only care about her up to a point. That being said, The Americans dissect human relationships like no other show and much better than most films, that's what I truly love about it. Even though I'm no spy and never had the ambition to become one, I feel it really nails the commitment and the perseverance deep covert work requires.
True Blood: Thank You (2014)
Crappy conclusion
Let's not kid ourselves, this finale was awful and there is nothing to redeem it. They just ruined it. I mean, suddenly characters nobody know and care about are the leads (yes I'm talking about you Bridget) and Lafayette is an extra on the show. Lafayette, the fan favorite!!! And to add insult to injury, they force us to watch a precipitated annoying wedding of two people whose romance was indeed really cute at some point but about which nobody really gives a damn right now. And Bill, I don't dislike Bill as much as a lot of people do but it was like die already evil vampire who manipulates the supposedly true love of his life into killing him because there is nothing romantic like staking your lover in the heart. That part was really sick in my humble stable person opinion. We did get to see a little bit of Eric and Pam but they also were relegated to a supporting part but thank god, we had Bridget!!!
Now You See Me (2013)
So disappointing, such a pity!!!!
I was quite excited about this movie after seeing the trailers and to be frank, it started rather well but that's it! I'll admit, the film is quite entertaining till the abominable twist (which isn't even one) and a totally cliché ending. Mark Ruffalo and Mélanie Laurent's romance is totally unbelievable. But if only that was the only problem: the writers cheated all the way, I mean, the culprit cannot be the culprit, it's just not believable. And the fact that the culprit, imagines such an elaborate plan to frame the man that he hates and who could have been framed simply by planting some drug in the trunk of his car seems so far-fetched. After watching it, I was upset because I felt like I had been cheated. Come the end of this disastrous movie, the whole story seems totally stupid and unbelievable. A lot of reviewers compare this film to The Prestige (which was great by the way) but if you look closely, you'll see that it's just a bad copycat of Usual Suspects (which was over excellent IMHO): 4 crooks/magicians recruited by a mysterious person who wishes to exact revenge on someone and who is all along under the nose of the very people he is manipulating. Except that in the Usual Suspect, the twist was amazing, the quality of the overall film excellent, the exact opposite of this poor production. Well, at least the producers made big money. There was therefore a point to this whole mess. Good for them.
Finally, Mélanie Laurent's part is totally pointless, she's just there to help the writers to cheat us the best they can and again, the fact that she falls for a guy who played her and treated her like rubbish during the whole time they spent together just baffles me. But again, this is due to poor directing and a weak script.
