Decent but I saw a lot more opportunity for the film
6 April 2015
Quality of production was good, acting was good, what was included in the storyline was good, I enjoyed it overall, but I thought that more could have been added to make this film stellar. There was too much that was unexplained. Plus this being a fairly short film, they could have added more scenes, especially leading up the the spooky stuff. I felt that the progression of events was rushed overall. Also the character development was a bit rushed. I could have understood the rushed character development more, if there were more detail provided about the ideas. I was really looking forward to this film, and I wish that it lived up to the hype. I did see the similarities in plot description as "flatliners" but this movie was presented in a totally different way. I really like the ideas used in this movie, I hope they make a second and more complete version.

Really boring and unbelievable

I can forgive low-budget films if the storyline is halfway decent. This is not one of those films; the dialogue is poorly written and horribly executed. The characters are snoopy and not very good at hiding it; each are altogether unlikeable, either having no personality or abrasive, and crude. I didn't think the antagonist was believable. I began to hope they would be killed, especially since they have no survival skills whatsoever, not even basic ones... I don't like that about slasher films in general. Honestly, of horror movies, I prefer ghost, demonic possession, or zombie movies. Zombie movies at least usually have a mix of characters with some that have some survival skills. A good Zombie movie I saw recently was Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, a good film, not perfect, but enjoyable. This slasher film simply wasn't worth making. I wish I could give this film a 0/10.

Not a movie I'd expect to flop at the box office

Warning: Spoilers
A fictitious tale of Moses. Ridley Scott and the actors did their best to recreate the despair and triumph told in the bible. The God that Moses (Christain Bale) sees in his visions left much to be desired. For one, if He must have a form, I'd rather God to appear as a man, not a child- it came off a little awkward. Christain Bale was an interesting choice for Moses, but I don't really understand why Moses would have an British accent. I've grown really tired of British accents used in movies, for people who came before Britain or have no connection to Britain. I am almost never disappointed in Christain Bale, even with this flaw, I can appreciate the level of effort he puts into his characters. Good cinematography, graphics and great detailing of the city. The storyline itself, was okay, not spectacular, but not bad either. Overall, I can't discount the level of effort that went into making this movie. Sorry to see the expenses weren't grossed. Entertaining. 7/10

One of Sandler's Best
13 March 2015
I'm really surprised at the low rating! I thought the plot idea was very original for a movie. I thought it was a good idea to involve his heritage too. My only critique is that the love interest was too young for him. But I also liked how the humor was less silly than some of Sandler's other movies- simply because I like to see man of his age mature and transition. I mean, I enjoyed many of his other movies, but I'm happy to see him transition to other forms or levels of humor. Some of the previous moves he made were rough, namely Click, Spanglish, and Punch Drunk Love- I still enjoyed them but I thought they were a little out of touch of his spark. I hope to see more movies of the caliber coming from him, very good and entertaining movie.

Surprised at the low ratings- I went into this movie blind!

Warning: Spoilers
Warning- contains spoilers

First off, this movie brings up a controversial and touchy subject, which I will comment on later, I was not expecting anything like bdsm to come up, however. Jamie Dornen is hot and I like him as an actor, I could detect his accent, but for me, I didn't think it took away from the film (besides, the character Chistian was adopted and from where, no one said). However, I do agree with some of the comments made about Dakota Johnson. I would've expected a woman with some curves, someone resembling Scarlett Johansson. I did think that Dakota's acting was decent, contrary to what I've been reading in reviews. Her character was not comfortable with sadism, and the actress also seemed uncomfortable- I thought it was a good fit. I must admit, I didn't read the book, so my perspective might be lacking, but I thought the level of sadism the script went into was appropriate for this kind of media, going too far would be intense for unsuspecting viewers- movies are intended to be appealing to broad audiences for the most-part. To be completely honest, I was worried about where the movie might go, and I was not really that into it until the end, when she left him. The way the split was captured was breathtaking. After receiving his worst, she left- to me it looked like she realized that she couldn't help him- that the pleasure he's able to get out of another's true pain is a sign. I also like how it was made clear that Christian was afraid of intimacy- of being touched, for example. I got the feeling that his sadism was a way to have a sort of intimacy without getting close to women. I can't speak for how the book ended, but I think the movie brings up a good topic with a good ending, especially since sadism and masochism are rising in popularity (or at least becoming more visible). S&M is not just another way of being, it is a damaged way of being. But I do think there is hope for recovery- though people have to save them selves (possibly get help). I've never been a fan, but I've noticed more conversation about these topics. There are ways of being 'abnormal' or divergent if one so chooses to be, without pain... Without dominance and unequal partnerships.... Overall, I liked this film, it gave me a lot to think about.
