Nowhere (2023)
Was excellent....but it's gonna split viewers
There will be no middle ground with this film. You'll either love it or hate it.
Started very quick for me with a small amount of context to fill in a blank of why she ends up in the container. Found it to be very apt with how refugees/smuggler considering his things are around the world today.
If you have a fear of water...tight spaces...or drowning, then this is gonna get your nerves going as it really does push it.
The haters will say it's stupid....like every film has its flaws but hey guess what's, it's a film.
Over all I found it very good with s great performance from the actress elastic 7 out of 10.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Loads of promise.....but hhmm
Well, after seeing it on Netflix I immediately sling it on and i'm not gonna lie.....it started really really well. But after 20 mins or so it gave up the story telling and just didn't know where the hell it was going and didn't really follow any of the main characters arcs. Instead it tried to cover all bases and show all characters faithfully to the game but at the same time failing to do so by not offering anymore progression.
You could see very quickly the concept they were going for and then it's as if they just kept changing their mind. Strange.
The cgi was decent for what it is but man at least get the practical effects correct that's the easiest bit and quit frankly what least expected, thats where it was starting to come apart. It's almost as if they had some money threw it all in on one scene and then just skimped on other bits had some more money again and started throwing it back in. Strange
All things considered it's very hhhhmmm ok!!??
Say maybe 4 out of 10 does crop up then straight back down to four....pile to much of everything with a lot of nothing. Plot for the sake of it rather than a story you're following.
Still waiting for a resident evil movie that gives itself justice.
Stay away project Alice baloney....no stopping satellites with their mind and blowing computer chips....use practical effect mun and ditch the CGI it doesn't work.
Outlast (2023)
Great concept that lost its way
Survivalists series isnt usually in my tastes but I decided to give this a go and im not gonna lie....from the episode I was hooked...set up was great and simple...it eventually lost its way around Ep5 where survival had turn into playing dirty which again I was ok with...it's a game so play it.....However, it becomes exceedingly obvious that it's all very...very scripted...especially after a guy (spoiler) gets booted out of the game on moral grounds after doing exactly what other teams have been doing....gets excessively frustrating at how scripted it becomes to create drama....and loses its focus.... I wondered how it would end as you could see that a producers decision to end the game with a race had been taken...
Strange cause the bully tactics were ok....until it was all that was going on then they all took a moral turn for no reason other than to serve a script and focuses less on survival with each Ep
Had promise then fell short by a long way. Especially that none of the contestants were really likeable.
Would have been a solid 6 maybe 7 but then dropped to 3.
Vampyres (2015)
Budget isn't it's problem...acting, writing and filmmaking is
I gave this film a HUGE benefit of the doubt from the offset due to its budget which is clear even during the 30s preview on Netflix. Cudos to the filmmakers in that sense. Having said that, this is not its problem.
If you have a low budget you have to have a strong script before anything, and then people who can perform. Cause when an actress can't even scream like she's scared...you know you have a problem. Very disjointed with characters that don't even have a reason to be there or any motivations to do the things they're doing.
The two vampires actresses were decent to be fair. Although pretty much nude every time you see them. What got me though, laughably was one minuet it's day then night then day again lol, basics man at least get the day time right...However, what really took the biscuit was from the offset the vampires are out during the day...ok no problem......then randomly around 45 mins in they panic cause the suns coming out....what!?
Shot quite nicely though. Had moments, but lacked story, characters that were believable and convincing performances from the campers.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
What a waste
Great cast for no reason whatsoever. Not funny in the slightest. I feel a little dead inside after seeing it.
Awful
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Wasn't bad just switch your brain off
3 hours of my life stolen but I've seen worse. Some great actors with a story written by 5 year olds for 5 year olds. Some of the others were great fun but this was just lllllllooooooonnnnnnnggggg, and pants
The Predator (2018)
Shane Black wrote this for the 12 year olds
Taking on the predator franchise is no easy task and I think hearing that Shane Black saying in an interview that "there's all this predator culture that is yet to be explored" gave a lot of the cult fans hope of seeing something different.
Leaning on his past experience with the original predator as an actor he brought comedy to this film in bags.....and it was damn funny and quite refreshing.
On the other hand though....there was no predator "culture explored" other than, 'oh there's blood feud between the predators" which is something already displayed in Robert Rodriguez' predators. The further along the story we go the further down a misguided rabbit hole you go and basically he (Shane black) has tried to the predator into a cool super hero/villain.....to the point where the character literally is trying to "save humanity" by delivering a suit which the wearer literally turn into iron man with 25 laser cannons popping out of its shoulder.....oh and the predators weapons were only defensive the whole time....what?
However, even with all these problems it was still a worthwhile watch as long as you switch your brain off.
It Comes at Night (2017)
"Warning spoilers"
Well as every other review has said, nothing comes!!! Why on earth didn't the writer, director or producer pick up on the fact that nothing happens through the whole movie is alarming. However, the cast played their roles well, with the content that they had. I usually enjoy the minimalist approach, but nobody enjoys being duped into thinking and feeling that there is a big twist to come...and then nothing happens yet again. It happens many times. The question is would you really watch and enjoy Jaws if you never saw the shark!!! or an attack!! would you watch Jurassic Park without the Dinosaurs....or Nightmare on Elm street without Freddy!!!......No.NO.and NOOO!!
I felt for the cast as this type of film is just a disappointment. The films cinematography is done well, but the lack of plot is just gaping-ly big and structured poorly, in doing so the whole film tries to survive through the content in the struggle of survival between dumb characters.
Its just a disappointment, if they had only shown some form of conclusion to what was supposed to come, an audience would have been satisfied.
Outpost 11 (2013)
Awful
***spoiler alert***
This is by far the worst movie i have ever seen. I am appalled that anybody can compare this movie to john carpenters "the thing" the only resemblance it posses to that movie is where its based.
I usually enjoy a low budget movie with obvious exceptions, but i am afraid the plot, acting, dialogue, fx, were just terrible. {COMPLETELY UNWATCHABLE}
all in all I could make a better movie myself by filming a steaming pile of poo on the floor and still capture the audience and get a better reception.
