Good Ideas That Didn't Fit
21 April 2022
This movie is really beautiful to watch, it creates a captivating mood and it has a unique take on Batman. That's about it though. There are some pretty serious inconsistencies in this movie. You can tell exactly where the director wanted to do certain things for dramatic effect and oftentimes it doesn't fit with the characters' previous actions at all.

A Truly Horrible Film
6 April 2022
I am shocked this was made by Guillermo Del Torro. What was he thinking??

1. The CIA captures an animal they say is the greatest discovery in all of human history and it needs to be protected and kept top secret. Yet, the janitor is able to spend hours and hours each day with this animal. There are no guards, no cameras, and apparently she has complete access to this room. Seriously?

2. The film clearly portrays the fish-man as more of a wild animal than a human, but the main character has sex with it anyway. Imagine a dolphin trainer at the zoo that is so lonely and depressed she starts having sex with the dolphins... Pretty gross right? That's pretty much what this movie is all about.

3. There is absolutely no subtly or nuance in the characters at all. The good ones, the bad ones; none of them. This movie is about as nuanced as a Disney Channel film from the 90s.

Much Better Than Expected

I knew nothing about this movie other than it was directed by Ridley Scott and starred Matt Damon and Adam Driver. As it turns out, that's enough to make a great movie. This could have been a very cut-and-dried statement movie about men=bad/women=good but it told a much more interesting story about our decisions and how ego and selfishness can destroy our lives.

Unexpectedly Gripping

One of the few movies I've seen where you really have no idea what's going to happen next. I don't know and I don't really care about any of the films deeper political messages, but purely from an entertainment standpoint it is a great film. Once you think you have it figured out, it throws you a curveball and goes down a completely different road.

Great For a Good Laugh
11 March 2022
One of the strangest movies I've ever seen. It's so bizarre that the scenes that are supposed to be the most intense just come off as comical. It would have been better as a short story maybe 20-30 minutes long. I don't know why Hollywood is obsessed with movies that have to do with mental illness, but it doesn't make for entertaining movies.

Yikes
10 March 2022
Pretty much all of the worst trends currently consuming Hollywood rolled up into one insufferable film. I mean seriously, it's so bad. It's like one of those classic Disney Channel movies from the 90s except this actually has good actresses and a relatively big budget which makes this entire disaster of a movie even more disappointing.

So Close, But Ultimately Pointless
4 February 2022
With a better conclusion, this movie could have been amazing. The ambiance and tension created throughout the film is pretty captivating, but the whole movie turns out to be pretty nonsensical . I would have been fine with an ambiguous ending, but there isn't really any ending at all.

Beautiful Animation, Bizarre Characters
4 August 2021
Some of the most beautiful animation I've seen in a movie, but it was a little too bizarre for me. Growing up with Disney and Dreamworks films, I couldn't quite get behind the strange Japanese characters. I certainly understand why so many people love this movie, but I'm not sure this is going to be a must-see movie for my kids.

Pleasant but Disjointed
4 August 2021
First of all this movie is way too long. It could have easily been under two hours. The music is amazing (it's Mozart, duh) and F. Murray Abraham puts in an incredible performance, but the film is a little hard to follow in the middle. It lacks a proper perspective to show the different stages of Mozart's life; which left me feeling disappointed in the end.

Full of Life Lessons
4 August 2021
Even though parts of the movie can be a bit corny (it is a Bollywood movie after all), this is a pretty incredible movie that everyone should see. I west expecting a silly comedy, but this movie is full of valuable life lessons and heartfelt relationships instead.

Vivid Intelligent Characters Make This Movie

American Gangster is the best mob boss movie ever made because Denzel Washington creates an incredibly complex and relatable character and he doesn't sabotage the movie by being a complete imbecile; unlike every other mobster movie ever made.

Leaves a Lasting Impression

There isn't another movie out there that portrays warfare better than this one. Everything about this movie is done to perfection and Spielberg catches the human element of warfare among fellow soldiers unlike anything else. A must-watch movie for every American.

Unpredictable and Incredible
3 August 2021
As good as movies get and one of the most enthralling movies ever made. Christopher Nolan does an incredible job of creating a sense of impending doom that the protagonists must work together to overcome, and you will never know what's going to happen next.

Bizarre and Boring
3 August 2021
The main idea of the movie is actually pretty solid. The first half hour and the last twenty minutes are worth watching but just about every single thing that happens between then is pointless. Gawain's encounters provide nothing to the overall story nor his character development. And at least half of the movie is filled with "wtf am I watching" moments.

No fluff, no gimmicks, just an incredible story
6 May 2015
This is a great movie. The entire movie is filled with life changing themes that reveal how important integrity, friendship and hope is in this world. One person with a big heart can make such a difference. For being a simple drama without any real action, romance, or special effects, Shawshank Redemption does a phenomenal job of drawing in the viewer and creating intense scenes at every turn. The characters are vivid and easy to relate to. When so many movies today revolve around computer generated graphics, explosions, fight scenes, and sex, it is refreshing to watch a movie that reminds us all of what life is really about. Life sucks sometimes, but Andy looks past his circumstances in order to better the world he was forced into. The friendships he makes and the way in which Andy brightens up the world around him is inspirational.
