Maestro (2022)
Captivating Greek tragedy and drama
Lolita male fantasy? Forbidden love story? Generational values conflict? Drug smuggling? Murder mystery? This show has it all, along with a cast where there are no small parts and superb acting. Great character development on multiple levels. We learn something new about each character in every chapter - their loves, their history and how they got to their current chapter. The use of multiple chapters to roll our the murder mystery is next level. Love how the story involves cultural values of each generation and how (grandma) Haris transcends these. Love this captivating drama/tragedy that the Greeks had thousands of years to perfect. Bravo!!
Can't wait for my Summer vacation to the Greek Islands this year.
Summertime (2020)
Intimate, immersive slice of life...
I've read the bad reviews. I get it. It's slow, it's not deep and reflective, it's no Shakespearean drama, the acting isn't solid 100% of this time. But here's what you'd miss if you pass this up - a chance to slow down and remember the turbulence and mindlessness of these years. Did I mention the colors and the scenery? Simply gorgeous. You will be taken away and immersed in a world that is bright and beautiful, watching 16-19 year olds grapple with their loves, losses, emotions, life decisions. Each character is well developed and quite sympathetic, making one want to join their world. And the actors are some of the most beautiful people in the world. Someone mentioned the actors seem scared. If that's the case, it certainly adds to the feeling of being completely immersed in this world. The indecisiveness about who ones truly loves, the strength of best friends, the newness of meeting others, all in a world made up of popsicle colors, sunlight and turquoise water. The overhead drone shots showing rows of beach chairs and umbrellas of the Italian riviera are used to amazing effect.
No? Ok then - go back to your formulaic detective shows, your hospital dramas, your zombie/vampire adventures or the other violent crap you watch. Or take a break, relax and watch your younger years unfold again and reflect how you got where you are today.
The Originals (2013)
Well-written. Comes full circle
One of the most satisfying, well-written series, if you love vampires, witches and werewolves. Thought this was for kids, but really got into it. Shakespearean themes played out amongst vibrant characters and backgrounds are a delight. Love the dynamic between Elijah and Klaus. Great supporting cast. Fell in love with all of them. No episode disappoints. How they kept this level of writing, character development, acting intensity and storytelling going for 5 seasons is astounding. Will remain one of my favorite series. In 5 seasons, the story comes full circle to its inevitable end. Extremely entertaining and satisfying. Enjoy!

Can't wait to show my kids
I was thrilled to see this show up in my Netflix recommendations. Very much enjoyed this series, along with Connections, as a kid. I intend to share this with my children, who have spent the summer getting dumber watching YouTube videos of complete dopes playing Minecraft. Thanks Netflix (and James Burke!!!)
