Slow burn, depressing
27 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The vibe this gave me, in my opinion, was depressing and just so serious that it takes a certain mood to watch. The dialogue is sometimes vague, but complicated at the same time, as if its trying to be much deeper than it needs to be. It's not particularly funny, though it adds some humorous moments, nor sentimental but I would compare to letting out long-held cry, which could be cathartic or just makes you frustrated.

Roped (2020)
5/10
Slightly interesting topic regarding the rodeo, but falls flat, lacks sense.

Warning: Spoilers
Ok....So short version: This movie is centered on a predictable love story that starts with the classic cliche of the main girl already having boyfriend who just happens to be a jerk so its ok to emotionally cheat on him with the cowboy. Also rodeos are kind of bad, but not the one, in this one...The end.

Long Version:

Besides the love story, there is the other plot regarding the unethical nature of rodeos vs the tradition of cowboys. But even this movie doesn't really go into either side of the argument as it wants to really focus on the love story, I think. Indeed, there are some disturbing things about rodeo history, but not all rodeos are the same however, and that's the exact argument the cowboy has, for like, a moment.

The leading lady, just happens to be the daughter of the man who is against rodeos...That being noted, I really found it hard to believe her father would ever give-in...Picture PETA and try to convince them rodeos are ok (yeah that wouldn't happen). But you can guess that the father has to give-in at some point based on the tone of this movie.

The main cowboy guy, tries to defend rodeos during the council meeting, but it wasn't good enough, so he is also given a heroic shining moment, where he saves his girlfriend's little brother. The boy chases after a calf in a dangerous area, probably because he wants to be a cowboy too. This is partly to blame on the cowboy for influencing him. But the father forgives the cowboy and decides hey if the cowboy can treat my son like that, he must be nice in general to animals and the other cowboys are nice like him...Sure.

But whatever, by the time you get to that part they have to end the movie soon. I guess we just have to assume the argument the father had with his daughter was also a driving force in changing his mind. On that note, she is the person who is always guilty-by-association throughout the movie.....There's a few things that could have been included to make this a better movie while other things left out, but it's just not the right kind of movie for it. So it gets a 5/10...

Also, not complaining but it is kind of funny how all the men and women are really good-looking...I kept joking about it.

Sweet Home Carolina (2017 TV Movie)
3/10
Boring, characters seem to lack depth
27 May 2020
Diane (lead) is rather a dull character. I actually got bored when she first meets Luke (leading man) again because she talks so gentle and low, its like she's kind of spaced out. She is supposed to always been kind and sweet I suppose, but this is totally at odds as to why Diane seems to attract so much dislike from others. but I guess its because she's too passive...The dialogue for her punk-rude daughters are laughable, especially the oldest one, who you can bet, at least once mentions how she can't eat a certain food but will try and order something at the wrong place.

Also this movie is not funny at all...But in corny-movie fashion, they laugh at anything remotely lame. Takeaway moment: Diane says "ya'll" her daughter teases her about it and Diane covers her face in bashfulness. Wow Diane is a such a dork, hahah, you know it silly lady.

Is this a positive movie? Sure....I didn't finish it as I get kind of tired of these flicks where the main issue is hardly anything so I can never tell if it's truly positive or focused on people with stupid issues. So I give credit to this movie as Diane is at least, a divorced woman with a weirdo selfish ex...Pretty edgy stuff.

Moana (I) (2016)
7/10
7.8 Fair enough. Obviously not Pixar. Haha...

I appreciated how it paid homage to earlier Disney films; whether that is picked up on or instead called "cliché " , "cookie-cutter" or too "annoyingly musical" is up to the audience. I like musicals and classic Disney so that won the movie over for me.

But, it did fall short on what could have been even better scenes or more story.

Overall: Refreshing story about a legendary character that hasn't been told; Maui, not Moana. Some cool and memorable songs. But the story left me wanting more and in a sort of disappointed way.

*Non-plot related spoilers ahead*

-The Kakamora coconut pirates were interesting, but had could have used even just one more scene later.

-Would have been nice with scenes of Maui's backstory rather than just talking about it.

-Environment. Didn't show as much island. Which is okay. Also comparatively, in Frozen the environment became mostly snow and Moana mostly ocean. But there are beautiful environmental scenes there.

Dope (2015)

Sucked...
7 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It started off with defining the word "Dope" in cliché fashion with it's various meanings "an illegal drug, a stupid person, or an affirmation of something's greatness"

The movie identifies with the first two the most.

The main character and his friends are interesting. If you're in the mood for a movie about drug-dealing and nudity in a comedic and drawn-out coming-of-age movie, then you'll be okay with it.

I'll give it a 10/10 on a scale of how much I wish I could get my money back because I was not in the mood for such a movie.

Movie-going experience was like a 6/10.

So that brings it out o a 8/10

For what it is, it did it fine I guess. I have no logic behind this review, just that my own dislike for drug-related movies wouldn't be fair to call this out as the piece of drivel I thought it was.
