Are We There Yet? (2005)
Children's Film
It's actually quite laughable reading the bad reviews for this film, many of whom completely missed the point of it. It's a family comedy made for children. Many of the reviews are adults taking it too seriously, and reviewing it as if it was meant for people over 20.
"Are We There Yet?" is a family comedy about Nick Persons (Ice Cube) who, throughout the film, attempts to win the heart of Suzanne Kingston (Nia Long). When her job is on the line and her ex is unable to drop off the kids to a job function 350 miles away, Nick agrees to drop them off instead.
Of course this isn't as easy as it seems, as the kids (Aleisha Allen and Philip Daniel Bolden) do not want anyone but their dad to be dating their mom. The kids try to make the trip as difficult as possible. Nick must gain their respect in order to make it to the end.
The movie is full of all the stuff we've seen before: People falling over, Cars being damaged to the point of being useless, kids trying to make their daddy-to-be's life a living hell, and all the slapstick you can think of - but this is stuff a lot of children haven't seen, and if they have, they love it anyway.
Ice Cube in my opinion did a good job a lead actor, he kept the energy up and brought a unique style to the film. Nia Long, as always, performed her role well as the single mom. Aleisha Allen who played the daughter did a great job, even showing off a little more of her skills in a karaoke scene. And last but not least Philip Bolden who played the son performed his role with excellence with his remarkably expressive face. I can see a big future for him.
A good movie for children, it deals with family issues like parent separation, and deals with teamwork. For an adult it may be cheesy, predictable and maybe even over the top. However, this isn't made for adults, it's made for the enjoyment of kids.
A 7/10 from me.
Family Guy: Fat Guy Strangler (2005)
Funniest episode in ages!
My friend and I missed the first 10 minutes of this episode, but what we saw would have to be the funniest it had even been. Every flash back wasn't just humorous, it was laugh-out-loud funny! On average there were LOL gags every 5-10seconds which was really good for family guy. Usually is a flash back that's sort of funny, another funny one and then a LOL one. This episodes gags were all amazing! I have to say I was extremely impressed and give this a 10 out of 10. If I could it would be 30 out of 10.
Fav moments that I can remember: "No one here, now I guess the only thing left to do is finish this sentence uninterru...AHHHH!"
Brian trying to convince Lois that Patrick is the Fat Guy Strangler: BRIAN: "Look!" Pictures of dead fat guys on the wall LOIS: "That doesn't mean anything" BRIAN: "What about that dead fat guy under his bed?" LOIS: "Coincidence?" BRIAN: "What about that other half-dead fat guy?" HALF-DEAD-FAT-GUY: "Patrick did it" LOIS: "I could be any Patrick"
And the best: "Ahh, I was just upstairs and noticed a half-dead-fat-guy eating a dead fat guy.....mmmm, ah ha, so we're just looking the other way are we?"
The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (2006)
Awesome!
I live in NZ and don't usually watch the Emmy's, but I heard Conan O'Brien was hosting and heard a lot of good things about him and thought I'd give it a go.
I thought it was awesome. Conan O'Brien was really the best thing on the show (which seems appropriate), and on a personal note I loved that 24 finally won something! The only thing I didn't like was watching the Skit at the beginning which would have had a lot of work put into and would've been expensive, then finding out that tons of retards found it insensitive to some COMPLETELY unrelated plane crash. Not to say who cares about people dying, but really? I thought the Skit at the beginning was well done and very funny. If you didn't catch it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwCOUgjECtI It was great to see a lot the well deserving people to finally get recognition (except Hugh, who wasn't even nominated!?), and to finally see what all the fuss was about with Conana. He really is the man.
Oh well, that's my comment, if you didn't find it helpful...well then that was a waste of your time then wasn't it :)
House M.D.: No Reason (2006)
Horrifying!!
This would have to be the best thing I have ever seen on TV!! All through the episode I thought it was confusing, and I was a little concerned at first because it was the final episode of the season and wanted it to be good, and it really was! All through the episode House has numerous hallucinations which is what made it confusing, but it was extremely necessary for the terrifying ending.
I'm usually not knocked by blood and guts and stuff, but this had the most unwatchable moments ever! If the tongue wasn't bad enough, then the guy's eyeball popping out, and then even worse with his testicle exploding! I was wanting to look away so much, but I just had to see more! The ending was the most shocking, tense and horrifying moment (I believe) in TV history! The acting and direction was excellent, the visual effects (of the guys body being ripped apart) were awesome, the editing was great and the music was heart pumping! The most horrifying moment is when you see House realize this isn't another hallucination, and the terror in his eyes! Never before have I been so terrified by a TV programme (or movie either!), then the unbelievable relief when the bullet finally falls from the guy's hand and you realize that the whole time from when he passed out from being shot was all a dream. Even after the credits had finally rolled at the end, I still had a thumping heart.
This episode alone is worth getting the DVD set of the whole season. A perfect episode with twists and intrigue to keep you guessing until the end. David Shore is the man!!!!!!!!!!! and so is Hugh!!!! :)
