Ira Finkelstein's Christmas (2012)
Funny and sweet family Holiday movie- something for everyone in this charmer
I watched this movie at the Seattle premier. I was happily surprised by the fun and sweet content of the film. I thought it would be a real "kids" movie and that I would be bored but it was completely the opposite. The script was well written with a few zingers for both kids and adults alike and the characters were likable and very real. The story line itself takes an original turn- even though it contains the echo of parent trap-like movies from the 60s and 70s. That may be why I like it so much- it stayed true to being a wholesome film suitable for the entire family but had enough humor and one liners in it to keep everyone entertained without feeling like they had seen it before. Plus, there is some really great original holiday music in it as an added bonus. I highly recommend taking your entire family to see this sweet, family film. Beware- the ending is so well written that it will invoke a few happy/joy tears. Loved it! It should be a Christmas tradition.
Gory Gory Hallelujah (2003)
Great Concept film!
Its sounds like one of those religious jokes " four Jesus's walk into a bar......"What follows is a bar brawl with Elvis impersonators, including a "Midget Elvis" (Elvi?)and unfair incarceration. A crooked town administration and Jury and a coven of witches round out the excellent and intricate cast of characters in this comedy/horror. It is unfortunate that this incredibly entertaining and sometime cynical film is listed in some circles as campy, this film is definitely more witty than the term 'Camp' implies. Although Troma film fans will not be disappointed. The plot follows four wannabe actors all vying for the part of Jesus in a play, who lose the part to the plays director. THey head to New York on a cross country road trip(on Motorcycles no less!) and end up in a completely screwed up small town where the townspeople are messed up and good intentions go bad, and where a savior is the most unlikely one. Throw in a few dozen 'undead'and the plot takes off! Gr Gory Gory is especially applicable in todays political climate. Highly recommended.
